What event could sidetrack you?
I've been at MFP about 5 months. I've dealt with the disruptions of deaths in the family, holidays and changed work schedules and have survived them quite well. The one event that scares me and has sidetracked me in the past is injury. It doesn't even have to be something serious, just something to get me away from my…

Am I reading this right?
I recently had a health evaluation at my facility's Healthy Living Center. I sat in the "bod pod", was weighed and measured, then had a stress test, followed by strength and flexibility tests. My body fat percentage from plethysmography (bod pod) was 20.2%, my calculated BMI was 28.6, which leaves me well into the…

Week 6 Weigh-In
Again, it looks like the founder of this group has moved on. I thought it would be a good idea to have a group with a similar distance to their goal, but if no one wants to post here anymore, that is fine too. To the business at hand, today is supposed to be weigh-in day and I did weigh myself, so here it is: Start: 207…

Where is your excess weight?
I am writing this on the "30 pounds to success" board because everybody should be kind of like me in terms of reaching their ultimate goal. I have 30 pounds to lose to be at my goal. I have examined my clothes, looked at myself in the mirror, and thought about it some more. I think a great majority of the thirty pounds I…

Week 5 Weigh-in
It is Wednesday, so anyone still paying attention can post here: Weigh -in today: 199.8 -.1 from last weigh-in. Joined this group 5 weeks ago at 207.6, I have lost 7.8 since then.

Week 4 Weigh-In
I know it is late, but there wasn't a weigh-in thread for this week. I'll start it and understand if no one follows suit. Last week: 204 This week: 199.9! I wrote a blog entry about this, but I saw 199.9, under 200 for the first time in 25 years!

New Year's Resolutions
Obviously, since this is MFP, a lot of us are resolving to lose weight/develop a healthy lifestyle. I am wondering what others are doing besides that. I resolved to take better care of my battered toes. I also made some resolutions about work that no one probably can relate to. Please share what you have resolved over and…

Dr. Oz Would Be Proud
I'm going to talk about poop. Before changing my lifestyle, I was extremely regular--I would have a BM just about every day when I got up, at least six days a week. Now, my BMs are much more infrequent--probably one every two or three days. I did notice when I reduced my liquid intake that the BMs were more difficult. Has…

How is this for a NSV?
I had blood tests six months ago and to summarize, they were the deciding factor for me to change my lifestyle. I had the tests again yesterday and my results were pretty good: BP from borderline to 129/65. Blood sugar from 115 to 100 (the top of the normal range), cholesterol (controlled with medication) went from good to…

Wow, just wow
I am (I think justifiably) proud of my 40 lb. weight loss. I took the time in the last 12 hours to read a couple of threads and wow! There are a lot of people who have lost a lot of weight! I am super impressed with what I've seen reported here. It seems to me that there is no one way to lose weight that works for everyone…

Walking Question
Physical activity at my job varies quite a bit from day to day. Somedays I am pretty sedentary, somedays I am moving all day and logging lots of steps. Today, for example, I arrived home and checked my trusty pedometer and saw that I had logged 13,000 steps. I have a couple of questions: Should this much activity be…

Strength Training
Exercise is divided into Cardio and Strength Training. When I have put in a cardio exercise, including those as mundane as mowing lawn and playing golf (with a cart), I get a calorie allowance for the exercise. However when I put in my strength exercises, no calorie "reward". Is this the way it is supposed to be?

Muscle spasms
I have been on MFP for close to a month. I have done well, drinking 8 cups of water, going well below my calorie suggestion, and upping my exercise. However, for the last week, I have been bothered by muscle spasms--they feel like cramps in my side and back. If I sit for a half hour or so and then get up, I feel like I'm…

Sub-goals
I have 35 pounds to lose to get to my stated goal. While that is a lot of weight, I have shed 25 pretty quickly. I am sure that the next 35 will come off slower and that I will go through a period of time when it seems like I'll never get there. So to help myself in the upcoming struggles, I have come up with something for…

10 Suggestions to help in Lifestyle Change
I'm a relative newbie, and don't have all the answers by any means, but here are some thoughts I have had since I started the journey to live a helthier lifestyle, featuring weight loss. Comments welcome and please let me know if I'm way off base! 1) You are not on a diet anymore than anyone else is on a diet. Most likely…

Looking for friends
Especially those with similar situations. I am male, 58 yo, and looking to lose over 50 pounds. I started recording my food and exercise a week ago and it really seems to have helped.
