You are definitely the closest overall. I'm male, 58, 5'9.25", started at 280, currently 242 and shooting eventually for 180. We even have similar hair!

Well, I'm old enough to almost be your grandfather (and I'm male) but the SW, height and GW are very close: Male Age 58 HT-5'9.25" SW-280 CW-242 1st GW-220 Ultimate GW-180 G

I drink a lot of diet soda. When I go without for whatever reason, I notice no change in my appetite. My only problem is combining diet soda, water and coffee. I spend way too much time in the bathroom. My operating plan is to alternate coffee (16 oz. cup) with 24 oz. water bottle until I've reached eight cups. I don't…

While I officially weigh myself once a week, I hop on the scale almost every day now that things have gone well. I don't want to be a slave to the scale. How I look and feel, neck and waist measurements and the four medical levels (BP, Blood Sugar, Triglycerides and cholesterol) matter a whole bunch more to me.

I'm 58 and male. I have been here almost two months and have lost almost 40 lb. Add me if you'd like. I have logged on every day since I joined.

In the early stages for those of us with plenty (50+) of pounds to lose, I suppose more than a pound a week is easily doable. However, when the calorie counts get lowered and the BMR is lowered, a pound a week is a really nice goal. I have 22 pounds to lose to get to my goal. I actually think I have 60+ pounds to lose to…

First the chiche--this is a marathon, not a sprint. Five pounds is a decent loss. Weeks will vary, no question. Events occur that change your plans--sometimes you can't exercise like you want to, sometimes eating a healthy diet is difficult, if not impossible. Remember this: You are not "on a diet", you are taking on a new…

Add me if you would like. It is good to get some guys on here.

I have an open diary. My food intake is pretty boring--lots of repeats from day to day--but friend me if you want.

I started with about 100 lb. to lose. I have lost 35, so I have 65 to go. I set my official goal here to be 60 lb. I have thought for awhile that getting down to 220 would be the point where weight loss was no longer medically necessary--after that it would be for mental health and cosmetics.

Welcome aboard. Exercise as much as you can and with reduced calories, the resulting weight loss should make exercise easier. I am not an MD and if you have health issues that cause the fatigue you should probably visit your physician.

(No such thing as a) stupid question: What is NSV?
-
I always thought I was at least 5'10" maybe 5'11" and now I find I am only 5'9.25". I have checked the ideals on BMI charts and the number is lower than I've been in my adult life. I have set a goal of 60 lb. weight loss, which still leaves me in the obese category. I want to see what the results are in my blood…

I've been married 36 years, my wife was 103 lb. when we tied the knot. She has gained less than one pound per year since. She'd like to be firmer, but the years have a way of taking firmness and muscle tone out of us.

It is pretty hard to sustain both well under calorie days and big weight loss. One thing I doubt that is considered in MFP's little note is that people's BMR slows as they lose weight, so calories would have to be reduced even further to acheive the number they post. That said, I think it is a great incentive to see where…

I'm male, but in your age range. I have been at this for about 5 weeks and find the message board entertaining, but the real heart of this is logging your food intake as well as recording your exercise. I'll certainly "friend" you and provide some online support.

I think it is ideal to weigh in about once a week. However, I'm guilty of weighing myself almost every day, at least in this stage of my lifestyle change. I'm trying to establish how much the scale goes up over the course of a day and also whether my bathroom scale is accurate. What I have determined so far is that my…

Somewhere between 15 and 20 pounds I noticed that my clothes weren't so tight. A belt I had purchased (the largest one at Target) fit only in the last notch and it was tight. I now am using the third notch, so I know there is a real change. My highly unscientific measurement of my waist and hips reveals more than a 2" loss.

That was my thought as well. I have averaged almost two bananas a day, but haven't eaten very many veggies at all. After work, I went swimming (laps for 20 min.) and came home. I haven't had any spasms since getting home and I have been basically sedentary.
-
You can add me, as well. I have 35 to go to get to my stated goal.

The unfairness of it all is that, as we lose weight, it takes more and more exercise and less and less calorie intake to continue to lose. I have been thinking that if I hit a hard plateau that I might have a "retreat week" where I don't try to lose, but just try to stay stable so that I can go hard after the excess pounds…

I have come up with a way to both get my water in and avoid drinking soda pop, one of those habits I want to at least modify, I won't drink a diet coke until I have six cups of water consumed. This helps both ways--if I drink six cups of water I am most of the way to my daily goal. Secondly, it delays drinking any soda pop…

I have seen both sides of the issue. My brother had bariatric surgery and it was very effective. He lost nearly 200 lbs. and reduced medications increased his mobility, and greatly enhanced his quality of life. He has suffered some side effects and has started to regain some of the weight. I believe he has gained back…

I have weighed myself once a week after I wake up on Sunday, voided and without clothes. I will now be weighed at my support group once a week on Tuesday afternoon. After I was weighed on Tuesday (fully clothed but without shoes) and weighed six pounds (6!) more than my bathroom scale, I did some checking and…

I'm from MN as well. Born and raised in SCentral (Mankato area), went to college in SW MN (Marshall) and have lived in the Rochester area for 35 years. As far winter workouts, I don't like doing anything outside, although I do shovel snow. I am fortunate to have a Healthy Living Center across from work and I plan to visit…

I took Lipitor for several years. It served the purpose of lowing my cholesterol number and I don't think it changed any attempt to eat less or lose weight. I noticed more aches and pains, supposedly a side effect to Lipitor and my doctor told me to go off it for a week and see if that symptom diminished. It did not, so I…
