I wanted a break from logging before the next round. Back to work! 4/29: 181.7 Walked a bunch but ate steak and popcorn and wine. This is the result. 4/30…

  • It doesn’t. I believe the charge hr does but I prefer the sleekness of the Alta. As a hiker, I found the fair flight count to be way off.
  • I like to join in. I’m a 40 something WAHM that likes to bike to get from here to there around my small college town. Nothing fancy. Just riding with my kids to school and to run errands mostly. Sometimes just for the fun of it. I have an old Raleigh hybrid I nabbed off of Craig’s list for $100. It’s in my LBS right now…

  • I realized that for this weight loss thing to work for me I need three components. I need to count calories with a scale because my intuition is broke! Second working out makes me have more strength, agility, balance, etc but it doesn’t really contribute much to weight loss at this stage. It does make me feel more…

  • Popping in here. Love the title. I was making slow progress towards my weight loss goals then got sidetracked with Spring break vacay and a month of illness. Working hard not to dwell on backsliding thoughts and focus on today with logging with integrity. One other thing...I hate tight pants!
  • For the prerecorded daily burn programs, the app will show you an estimated calorie burn at the end of the workout based on the weight you have recorded in your dB account section. For 365 I usually use 177 calories for a 30 minute workout. But for a day like today’s yoga/Pilates style workout, I use yoga from the…
  • Your arms are amazing! I have tiny little chicken wing shoulders so I'm a bit jealous. Guess I need to start putting in the work!
  • My husband used to have long hair and I hated it. It didn’t look professional to me and it was not my preferred style. But you know what? I realized he’s a grown man and who was I to tell him how to wear his hair? So I stopped commenting on clothing, hair, etc unless he asked my opinion because it quite frankly wasn’t my…
  • I’m an avid daily burn member. It has a wide variety of programs from weightlifting (Live To Fail) to dance-based, yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, mobility etc. they also have specialized programs for newbies and pregnant folks. One of my favorite programs is the daily live body circuit workout (DB365). The trainers and…
  • If it makes you feel better, this sort of stuff makes me see red too. I was ranting to my husband this morning when I first read the NYT article. I HATE bad science reporting with the fiery passion of 1,000 suns.
  • I used to be in medical/public health public relations. Let me just say that the standard for medical science reporting in mainstream outlets is very, very poor. Add to the fact that the headlines "The Key to Weight Loss is Quality Not Quantity Study Says" is not written by the article writer. So here we have a JAMA…
  • I workout at home most days using Daily Burn for the core of the workout and rely on their Facebook groups and live chats to get that workout buddy accountability. Not a good fit for everyone but it really works for me.
  • It really is individual I think. I do a brief warm-up like squats or jumping jacks just get the blood pumping before doing my weightlifting workout. After that, I’ll do a circuit cardio bodyweight workout. My favorite is Daily Burn 365. I find that if I do cardio first, my weightlifting form suffers. But if I do cardio…
  • I’ve had a zip, charge hr, and Alta. Like others have mentioned, the charge is poorly engineered and falls apart. The Alta is much better in that respect and you can easily change the bands. I’ve been debating whether or not to upgrade to an Alta hr just to track the intensity of my workouts but from what I understand, the…
  • When I first read about functional medicine as a concept I was really intrigued. Our standard western healthcare does a great job of diagnosing and treating disease but a poor job of promoting health. We tend to wait until something is broken to do anything. My understand of the functional medicine approach was to…
  • Newbie here but I just reread New Rules and there was section on women having more knee problems because their quads tend to develop more/faster than their hamstrings, they get out of alignment and the knee shifts. The author emphasized the importance of hamstring targeted moves to address it. Experienced lifters, feel…
