I have knee/hip issues and I don't mind the treadmill, but I was getting bored when I read this recommendation. After a few minutes of warming up, increase the incline up by one every two minutes, until you achieve ten. After two minutes at ten, decrease by one every two minutes, then cool down. This makes for about a…

Fruit, especially red, ripe, sweet, cold watermelon! I live on it in the summer..mmmmm!

I use the paper bag method and use only a drop of oil, hardly 1/8 teaspoon. I stir the oil and kernels in a measuring cup before putting them into the bag (I use a toothpick), so they're all lightly coated. Yes, it makes for an oily bag - which means the bag is soaking up the oil, which a bowl wouldn't do. In my microwave,…

This is what I would do, if I could afford it... I would buy two dresses - one dress a size or two smaller than you wear NOW, and another dress one size LARGER than your ideal (so it can be altered where needed.)

The most important meal is your next one... not your last one.

THANKS for all the kind words - it's nice to know I'm not in this alone! November's challenge: sugar. One day at a time...

I've had the same problem for AGES. I can have a sensible breakfast, and keep on target for lunch and daytime snacks (fresh fruit), but all bets are off as soon as I hit the front door at the end of the day! I've found that I MUST have a meal ALREADY PLANNED and quick to prepare as soon as I get home. On the way home I…

Attention from others. I've been down this path before, and as soon as someone comments on my weight loss (generally after about thirty pounds), or that I'm looking good, my motivation disappears. So maybe fear of success? Also, I hate the gym. Boring. The only classes at my gym for old, overweight beginners with bad knees…

Sixteen days without a carbonated beverage. (A personal goal I never thought I'd achieve.)

How big is the crock-pot? 2-quart? 4-quart? 2 cups = 1 pint 4 cups = 2 pints = 1 quart 8 cups = 4 pints = 2 quart 16 cups = 8 pints = 4 quart Just divide the total calorie count by the number of cups in the crockpot.

I've used several tactics, and it varies with the situation. If I pass something tempting in the store I'll tell myself, "Yes, I can have it, just not today." I drink water first. I'm trying to switch from stress eating to stress hydrating. I'll eat a protein - boiled egg, cottage cheese. It's not what I'm craving, but for…

When a migraine starts, I take a couple of no-doz with a mt dew (diet is fine). A kick of caffine eases the intensity of the pain. A friend of mine began tracking her eating and found that eating red licorice triggered her migraines. I can't recall craving anything but a dark room and undisturbed stillness.

I looked at different options for the maintenance calories OF MY GOAL WEIGHT, and I aim for that range. I'm less focused on losing than I am on just learning to eat for a healthy weight for the rest of my life.

I always arrange to meet somewhere on a first date, so I always have my own vehicle. The last date I met (Internet date) got to the restaurant before me and was wandering around the parking lot. I parked and got out, we said hello. In small talk I asked how long he had been on the dating site, and he proceeded to tell me…

When I did this before, it was about 30 pounds before people started commenting on it.

My best work friend once said, "I'll be glad when you're off this diet so I can eat anything I want." HUH?!? We were eating in the same places we always did, but I was making different choices.

Shortly after having my first child and I kept waiting for life to go back to "normal", I had an "aha" moment. My life had irreversably changed, it was up to me to create the brand-new, never-before-experienced, "normal". The birth of a child is also the birth of a mother (whether mother of one, or mother of three). This…

The longest waterfall to be found between the Rockies and the Appalachians is at Hemmed-In Hollow in Arkansas, but you have to 1) go in the spring, as it dries up later in the year, and 2) hike in to see it. The Buffalo River, which meanders through Arkansas, provides plenty of challenging trails without extreme heights.…

I'm just getting started, but I heard a quote I think of often: "Your past is not your destiny." The person I was last year is NOT who I'm going to be NEXT year!
