  • You burn approximately 100 calories per mile for running but if you are working hard and getting your heart rate up, you will burn more. I ran a 10k race for life on Sunday in 48 mins (think the course was not 10k) and burned 719 calories but I ran my behind off and my heart rate was in zone 5 for 47 of those mins. Not…
  • I started running in January so still fairly new. I also started at about 4.8mph and it was a great start. I've never done a 5k, somehow I just went to 10k. I can complete a 10k in 54 mins. I think when I run to the grocery store with my toddler that the distance is just over 5k and I did that in about 30 mins yesterday. I…
  • I haven't read a single reply but why does anybody need a cheat day? It's really dumb because if you are heating healthy and not depriving yourself, you shouldn't need one! I have been doing this for just under a year and haven't had a cheat day. However, I don't deprive myself. I still have my chocolate, pizza, ice cream,…
  • I don't think running builds muscle but it will make you stronger. From what I understand, it's hard to build muscle on a calorie deficit. If you feel like you could do more, up your pace every 4 mins for say 5 times, basically, interval training. This will get your heart rate up, sweat, and condition you to run faster as…
  • Brooks adrenaline 12's and brooks Ravenna 4's. have a mild over pronation on one foot and they are comfy. I also suffer from plantar faciitis.
  • Nope, not at all. I started by power walking and adding running for short distances. I've always done at least 5 miles walking so it took a few months before I could run the entire route. Now I can run a 10k distance. You're doing it the right way by adding in small increments. Good advice above to make sure you stretch…
  • Don't for get that Monsanto executives have key roles in govt as well.....helps to make sure they get that immunity.
  • I track both and feel both are important. I know it's the refined sugars you have to watch but in the end, sugar is sugar. I've learned it's a personal preference. I think if you are healthy, fit and active, you don't have to watch so carefully but if you are still on your weight loss journey, I feel they should be…
  • How tall are you? It may not be the weight. I ran at 220 fine. I'm a heel to toe striker. Mid foot landing is hard for me when running fast. If you are having pain, 100 mile drive to get fitted properly is well worth it. I tried running at 240 pounds and ended up with plantar faciitis. I waited to get down to 220 and then…
  • Hiding your diary to hide your unmentionables isn't going to help you because they will still be visible to you! It doesn't matter what we think of your foods, you have to be happy with your choices. This is a lifelong journey and how you eat while losing weight MUST be the way you eat for life. You really need to have 3…
  • Fantastic! You look amazing!
  • Honestly, if I ate like that, I would not expect a weight loss. I know it's down to the calories in but eating junk and fast food is not the way to get healthy. As mentioned above, you don't have to do away with pizza and mcdonalds but everything in moderation. I went back to beginning of June and didn't see a single fruit…
  • How can it accurately calculate calories burned if it doesn't know your heart rate and activity exertion? I prefer my polar hrm and only track my calories burned when exercising. I have a very low resting heart rate which means I have to work harder to get my heart rate up to burn decent calories. I just don't see how it…
  • You think 204 pounds in 2 1/2 years is slow? I think that's really fast and to lose that amount of weight in that time frame along with a disability is AMAZING!!! What an inspiration you are!!!
  • I run, I think my ticker shows that it works. I don't lift.
  • Because its true. There is so much misguided information just because its been posted on here. Sugar is sugar, natural or not. Doesn't mean fruit is free. I didn't say it will make you fat, I said the excess will get stored as fat which is going to make more work to get rid of. I realise we gain weight by eating too many…
  • It's so frustrating to see so many tell members to not track sugar! Sugar is sugar, doesn't matter if its fructose or sucrose, it still has to be processed by your body and your liver can only hold so many grams of it at a time before it gets stored as fat. Most members here that don't bother with sugar are mostly at goal…
  • The next time you take your fit test, you will be able to compare. There is no good or bad. It gives you a picture of where you started and where you are each stage!
  • Congrats, you have done a fantastic job and look amazing. I weigh most days but it doesn't stress me out. I usually don't have a gain and the 2 times that I have, I knew I would so was prepared. If it ever gets me down then I will not weigh daily. anyway, keep it going! I've only got about 35 pounds to get to goal and I…
  • How slow is slow? Starting weight, current weight? Sometimes it's slow and sometimes, it's not but it can be hard finding what works for you. I cook from scratch and eat about 70% clean. I run 3x a week and do lots of walking and that works for me. Eating enough calories is also key along with accurate logging.
  • I've lost 98 pounds in less than a year by counting calories, eating real food, and lots of exercise. I et fairly clean. A shake isn't oing to make you healthier and a shake won't make you lose weight.
  • I'm 5'4.75" tall and I eat just over 1400 cals a day and eat a few exercise calories back. I tried 1200, it's not enough
  • I don't get the "I can't afford healthy foods" statement. Eating healthy shouldn't cost more because you eat less. Think about eating a plate full of pasta before compared to a fist full size now. Aldi is a great place to get groceries if you have one close enough. Also, local farmers markets. I live in the UK but I spend…
  • Sugar does count! It's here for a reason. People who say sugar isn't important are usually at goal and are very healthy and lift weights or do cardio and in that case don't have to worry about it. This is not the same for someone who has a lot of weight to lose. I believe the max is 50 grams a day and your liver doesn't…
  • Sugar is sugar, be it refined or natural. Sugar tracking is there for a reason so I would track it. Yogurt is full of refined sugar as well as granola bars. Your liver can only process so much sugar before the excess has to be stored as fat. I believe the recommended daily amount is 50 grams a day which is more than my…
  • I started MFP needing to lose 130 pounds! I broke my number down into more manageable goals. I set goals to get me to each stone gone, then to get me out of each BMI category. I started in obese class 2. Right now, I'm .4 pounds away from 7 stone and 2.4 pounds to get to 100 pounds gone in less than a year! Once I reach…
  • Too much junk and no fresh fruit and veggies! There is a difference of depriving yourself and giving into temptation. If the food is once a week or bi weekly and in moderation then not so bad but saying I'm not depriving myself of that food because I will end up binging, and then eating more than the portion won't work…
  • It sounds like a good idea from what you are saying because I follow all steps that you listed and have lost 95 pounds on 10 months. Could be a good educational read and free if you borrow it. Let us know how you get on with the book This is a good reason that their website should offer more information because it sounds…
