My boyfriend and I are both avid FitBitters, and I love new friends! https://www.fitbit.com/user/23D969 I'm more into the Goal Day challenges than the competitions, cooperative play makes me a little less crazy. :P

Skin is all external, so you don't have to guess, you'll be able to see it. "Requiring" surgery means that it's medically necessary, which means it's causing medical problems. The most common reason for NEEDING a tuck that I've heard is a little ecosystem forming under the apron. Barring medical issues, it's cosmetic…

MFP already works your desired weight loss into the calorie plan they give you. So eat the number they tell you to eat, or you're more likely to stall your own weight loss. Eat back some of your exercise calories - some people eat back half, some eat back all. Don't ever burn off EVERYTHING, or even nearly everything. You…

There is now a group for the challenge, here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/8890-sober-october Please feel free to join, and be as active as you're comfortable with. All are welcome, no matter what their goals, as long as they're willing to support other members. Good luck!
-
Wow, what a fantastic group! We've got a huge range of ages, diets, hometowns... this is going to be awesome! I hope day 1 was an unabashed success - I'm already seriously proud of you. If you would like to be on the group tracker, please post your weight here, or message me with it if that's more comfortable for you. If…

Yay, you're all in! I'm in the process of adding you all, so we can stick together through the month. If you haven't posted your beginning weight, and want to be included in the spreadsheet, please do so! It's also ok to message me with it privately, if that's more comfortable.
-
Bump, in case anyone else wants to join! I've been on an adding spree, and fighting with spreadsheets, we've got a good group so far! @netsirk12, no liquid calories at all?! That's crazy, and awesome, good luck!
-
Thank you all for your responses! The more of us are involved, the more support we have, and the better we all do! I'm setting up a spreadsheet in Google Docs, to track our progress throughout the month. If you want to be involved, please post weigh-ins here, so I can transfer them over. If you'd prefer to keep progess…

Sign up. Right now, seriously. Do it. It will help motivate you, because you won't want to lose the money. It's a BLAST. And worst case scenario, you walk most of it, and skip an obstacle or two, and still feel proud of yourself for doing a 5k! You can finish it RIGHT NOW if you try. You'll just do better in June, if you…

I would get a vegetable in there. Seriously, one serving of any vegetable. Not a veggie burger or spinach dip, and beans don't count. Some good fat - put a couple of slices of avocado on your egg, it's delicious. You were given some great advice in your previous threads. Eat more. Eat better. If you continue at this level,…

@Shannon (I wish replying to a post listed the person's name...) I wasn't feeling called out at all, I can imagine thinking something similar. And thank you for saying so anyway, the Internet can skew meaning so hard. :) The biggest draw for me was the body comp, which was insightful, so it all worked out for the best.
-
I replied while you were typing, I think, so we crossed paths. :) My office brought her in and offered free appointments, I was curious to see what she'd say. So, nothing lost, though I'll admit to being disappointed.

Why not, exactly? As long as I'm getting the nutrition I need, why does it matter whether I start eating at 7 am or noon? And I will not trust any dietician who tells me it's better to force food into my body when I'm not hungry, than get the same number of calories in a smaller window that actually works for me. Talk…
-
There's no requirement to eat back your exercise calories, and if you're not hungry, no reason to force it. I would, instead, choose to look at today, tomorrow, maybe even the next day as "cumulative," and allow yourself a little extra lee-way if you do prove to be especially hungry tomorrow.
-
I have days like that too, especially, ahem, at certain times of the month. I try to make sure I've got some good snacks on hand - I'm currently noshing on frozen grapes, and baby carrots and almond butter are a favorite, too. That way I don't reach for the Cheetos. If you're really, truly hungry (and have eliminated…

I think eating more, and eating better, is a good plan. It doesn't have to be a totally whole food diet, but I'm seeing a lot of packaged food in your journal, and no veggies at all, except what's crammed into a veggie "burger" (and therefore highly processed), or in a creamy dip or heavy sauce. They're good, I promise,…

Welbutrin made me nauseous whenever I ate more than a little handful of trail mix, for three MONTHS. I lost 20 lbs, I'm amazed I didn't lose more, and it's just because as soon as the nausea passed, I'd make myself have a snack. With some medications, that side effect goes away in a few weeks. For me, it didn't, and it got…

You keep saying that... why? I'd love to see a cited source.

True "starvation mode" is when your body begins to burn lean muscle for fuel, due to a lack of fuel availability elsewhere, either in calories consumed, or stored in fats. It is an actual thing, and it does not happen until you're as lean as you can be - about 6% body fat for men. So most of us here don't need to worry…
-
I'm not sure what the last sentence means? But it is proven that if you consistently net under the calories your body needs in order to function, metabolic function will slow, and so will your weight loss. This is not true "starvtion mode," but it's what people are usually talking about here, when they say it. You will not…
-
No, that doesn't sound good at all. What sounds good is figuring out your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure), INCLUDING the exercise, and eating 1000 calories a day under that. I guarantee you'll be netting more than 200 a day, which is good, because you need more than that. Much more than that. Eating 1200 a day and…
-
If you're worried about starvation mode, then eat more. Like I said, aim to net about 1200 per day, at least. And switch things up, don't let your body get used to an exact routine, so it doesn't think "ok, this is the new normal" and do what it needs to in order to compensate. I would highly recommend opening your diary,…
-
Without being able to see your diary, we really can't tell you much. I would eat back at least some of your exercise calories - try to net at least 1200 a day. You also may be gaining muscle, which weighs more (when comparing the same VOLUME, thank you nitpickers :P ) than fat. Look at other markers - can you lift more?…
-
Caffeine (in reasonable doses, and in natural forms - tea and coffee) and spicy foods can also help rev you up a little. I wouldn't recommend putting sriracha *in* your coffee, but some of each of those most days can help. Plus, then you get to put sriracha on things. And yes, the size and frequency of your…

I'm not on any kind of diet. But I am primal, and (starting today) I'm moving toward being paleo. I don't find it hard to follow at all. I eat lean proteins, healthy fats, and *loads* of veggies (and some fruit, of course). Done right, it's super yummy! And the only foods that are cut out are foods that we don't…
-
@KBOYD415 - I'm not looking at my primal fitness book right now, but as I recall, Mark suggests starting out with body-weight exercises. Push-ups, pull-ups, squats, sit-ups, that kind of thing. Once you're doing a certain number without great effort, you can hold weights in your hands, or wear a weight vest while you do…
-
I would eat something post-workout too, that's just not a lot of food. But sure, if it tastes good, and fuels your workout, it's a great breakfast.
-
I also consider myself primal (with bouts of paleo), and do eat dairy in moderation. I think it does fit with the whole conception of primal and paleo - eating what humans were eating when we evolved, and therefore what our bodies are best suited to process. Plus, greek yogurt is a good way to get the fermented foods that…

I will also not be COMPLETELY sober, but here are my guidelines: I may have up to two lower-cal drinks (wine or spirits, no mixers), IF I am in a social setting where drinking is expected, and IF it fits into my macros for the day. And I will absolutely do this with you, for October and onward! Good luck!
