Gah I just wanted to vent... I just started taking lessons three weeks ago and they've been going really well. I'm not the total beginner I thought I'd be, although I still have a lot to (re)learn. Biggest problem now though? The barn I go to is closing and the riding school being sold. The owner/instructor is retiring and…

Also drink lots of water and get a little bit of sun (but not too much!)—that can help, too.

Maybe sign up for a fitness class? Whether it's yoga or spinning or zumba or crossfit, sometimes having a teacher there who expects you to show up (and if you're prepaid for a series of classes then you better show up, says your wallet) can be helpful. Maybe use Meetup.com to help you find some like-minded workout buddies…

Me too, just managing. 32, married, not trying, not sure we want kids at this point. I'm trying to get myself sorted out and be in a position where I may have the option to change my mind, but right now I am not there. Husband is supportive; he really only wants kids if I definitely do, and he's fine with not, so that's…

Buckyhorsemom said: "When my daughter was 4 and started riding, I purchased both of us helmets. I felt like I couldn't very well expect her to always wear her helmet if I didn't wear one also." Shadowfax44 also. THANK YOU. Thank you for being a good example to your kid. You are amazing moms. Note to ALL Parents: WEAR YOUR…

What they said regarding healthy fats. Maybe also reintroduce liquid calories. It's one of the first things we cut, you know, juice, beer, wine etc. Still stay away from soda probably but I think you could have some pulpy orange juice or a glass of wine?

I got a puppy. My PCOS has contributed a lot to a depression that had been partially brought on by other things, but let's be honest when you feel like you don't want to show your face in public you wind up isolating yourself, not exercising, sitting at home eating unhealthy things. I knew I wanted a dog for the last…

Your stories sound like mine. I rode hunter jumper for 4 years when I was a girl, from about 11 to 15. I should have kept riding! I'm 32 now and just got home from my second lesson, and yes, feeling very sore. The barn where I'm riding has more of a focus on dressage, which is fine by me because I'm not sure I want to get…

I just started today too! Some incentives: I have a beach vacation in December coming up, a family destination wedding in February, and a 5k race in March (I'm signing up Nov 1). I want to get through the holiday carbo-sweet-fest with some good exercise to counter it all! Add me if you like?

Overnight steel cut oatmeal with vanilla & cinnamon. Follow normal ratios of water to oats! It's amazing to come downstairs to fresh hot oatmeal waiting for you the second you get up. And the house smells so good!

Agreed. As someone who used to work at Canadian Tire, I can tell you that the bikes are shipped to the store in a cardboard box and *some random employee* puts them together in the back. You really don't want an amateur building your bike for you. Things may have changed in the last few years but that was how it was done…

Of course! Helmets keep your brains on the INSIDE, where they belong.

^This, definitely. (While we're at it, it's spelled definitely, NOT definately, or defiantly.) Apostrophe misuse is hands down the worst offense, in my opinion. I've been seeing it in social media, on handwritten signs at places of business, even in news articles online. Apostrophes are meant for contractions and…

You're going to get a lot of advice at once in this thread, and it's going to be pretty overwhelming. Pick one thing at a time to focus on for a week and once you get that sorted, move on to the next. I definitely agree with cooking at home and drinking lots of water. Some of my busy friends do all their cooking for the…

You could try yogurt, since it's a really good protein source and has the added benefit of probiotics. Goes really well with almost all fruits. Other than that, I don't know, maybe experiment with different fruits/ brands of protein powder. Try a vanilla flavour? My favourite smoothie for after a workout is what you…

Usually I save my calories for a little bit of good quality chocolate for dessert, but for when we don't have any chocolate in the house, I sometimes make a mug of cocoa. Not extra sugary chemically instant hot chocolate powder, but real cocoa. A cup and a half of skim or 1% milk (or almond/soy whatever) plus a tablespoon…

Hi whatwouldmulderdo, Basically, yes, it's possible, but I'm not suggesting that you do. Remember that PCOS is a syndrome with a varied collection of symptoms (many ovarian cysts, acne, hirsutism, weight gain, irregular periods, hair thinning, skin tags, acanthosis nigricans, infertility, etc). You don't need to have all…

As others have said, you're doing really well. Don't worry about it and keep it up! Good work on your hike! 20 minutes off! Sweeeet! I bet that felt awesome! Weigh yourself once a week or so at the same time of day, as your weight can fluctuate by up to a few pounds daily depending on what you ate or drank or what is still…

"The full documentary is only available inside Canada" As a Canadian expat living in the US, I'm a little disappointed as I would be interested to watch this. Not so much because of the pregnancy topic, but because The Nature of Things is an interesting program and David Suzuki knows his stuff. I'll have to watch it next…

For breakfast, unless you're eating your cereal dry or with rice milk or something, you're getting some protein in the milk or soy or almond milk that you eat it with. You could also have a serving of yogurt, or make a boiled egg. If you're vegan and yogurt/eggs aren't your thing, then have a glass of soy milk, or protein…

"The hardest step is the one out the front door." Leaving the house is actually relatively easy compared to a run or a long ride, so sometimes if I can just get myself out the door with the intention to exercise, the rest takes care of itself.

Are you choosing wild salmon? If you're getting fresh wild salmon, there's almost no reason to put a sauce on it. Farmed salmon tastes far worse by comparison; always go for the wild caught, if possible. Also, don't overcook it. [Edited to agree with those posting above me] Tender perfectly cooked salmon has a wonderful…

I went for a long 18 km 1hr+ bike ride yesterday, and I'm not even sore today. The same ride last week and the week before made me very sore indeed! Feels good to know my body is adapting to the exercise.
