+1 Ugh. Just Ugh to the OP.

Desk job here and I'm down 89 pounds. I have always worked a desk job. You lose weight by eating at a deficit, not exercising. Don't get me wrong, exercise *helps* and it feels good and it helps you maintain a loss, but eating less calories than you burn is what causes you to lose weight. You have to faithfully measure,…

This is how I read the OP as well.

Pasta - like you, I measure out 1 serving and add lots of veggies to supplement. One of my favorites is to add shaved zucchini ("Zoodles") to bulk up the pasta. Ice cream - I buy pre-packaged servings. Yes, they cost more per serving, but for me, I can't have an open container of ice cream in the freezer. No matter the…

I'd also argue that weight loss surgery is NOT the easy way out! Those with weight loss surgery (I did not have it) have to eat sensibly and exercise to lose and maintain plus they have had the extra element of extremely invasive, life-threatening surgery. Often times with difficult complications and side effects that I…

No. Detox is just another word for scam! Your body does a fine job "detoxing" itself. Just say no!

+1 Eat how you want to eat for the rest of your life or maintenance will never work.

SW: 263 CW: 175 GW: 145 Height: 5' 3 3/4" Age: 43 Biggest success tip: weigh, measure and log *everything* you eat

This as well. I had to make up my own mind to change myself. NOTHING my mother said would have made a difference. Unfortunately it took until I was in my 40's to make that decision, but better late than never.

This. I was overweight all my life starting from a very early age. The more my mom picked at me, the more I just hid what I was eating. I remember her telling me that I'd "be so beautiful if I just lost weight...." I know she was just trying to help, but it made me feel AWFUL and so to make myself feel better, I ate more.…

+ another A plateau is not a week or 10 days without a loss. That's very normal. A plateau is 8 weeks or more of ZERO loss. Weight loss is not linear. It will dip, dive, climb and stay the same. I've lost 87 pounds and my weight loss graph looks like a roller coaster. That is NORMAL. you didn't gain all the weight you want…

I love both of these skinnytaste recipes (Zucchini tots and Cauliflower tots) for this reason. They are NOT a substitute for tater tots - not even close - but they are a great, creative, tasty way to get my picky son to eat, and enjoy, vegetables.

Right here. Is it possible and realistic to lose 40 pounds in 3 months? Yeah, maybe, depending on the person and how much they have to lose. My suggestion is to set realistic, sustainable goals using a plan you can maintain for the rest of your life because once you lose the weight, you need to maintain it. Keep in mind…

This. Not enough information to really give you any help.

33% to date. At goal, I'll have lost 45%

You know, I don't mind the tortilla substitute as much as I loathe the fat-free "cheese" substitute. Ick. I'd rather melt rubber over my pizza. For the few extra calories, I'd rather have part-skim mozzarella cheese. That at least melts like normal! Actually, if I want pizza but don't have the calories in my budget on that…

Another Colorado hiker here. I typically hike 3-10 miles at a time and hiking is my absolute favorite form of exercise. I love it! As for gear, these are my recommendations: Sturdy shoes with some ankle support to avoid turning your ankle in rocky/gravelly terrain. (Skechers aren't what you will want) Your shoes are, in my…

Let's start with what kind of foods do you like? What is your weight loss goal? How many calories are you eating each day? Do you have a place to keep food at your desk? Give some additional information and I'll give you some of my thoughts and ideas. Even if you end up getting a gastric bypass (and for some people this is…

How in the world can you be frustrated over a loss of 13 pounds in 2 weeks??? That is tremendously fast. A healthy rate of loss is .5 - 2 pounds per week. You are at the high end of that. Here's some perspective. I lose at a rate of about 1/2 pound per week. I'm down 87 pounds. Should I be frustrated by that since it took…

This. 1/2 a pound a week is great! That's the rate I lose. I've lost 87 pounds. Stop comparing yourself to others. All it will do is make you frustrated and bitter. Look at and celebrate your successes. If you are feeling deprived, you are doing something wrong. Make sure you are fitting in the foods that you love. If you…

Also if you don't like seeing the messages, don't click "Complete this Entry" at the end of the day. It's just a computer program that automatically generates messages based on the calorie count. it's not the food police. Don't get so emotionally attached to it and you'll be much more successful. Also, don't make a habit…

I started it 3 years ago. I've lost 85 pounds so far. Like Kdiamond, no food is "off limits" but I generally eat pretty healthy, which is how I think most people who do IIFYM eat. Moderation is key.

Losing weight is also about learning how to interact with others and how to survive social situations for the rest of your life. Are you planning to skip family reunions for the rest of your life? If not, then you need to learn how to handle them. Go to the reunion and don't bring your own lunch. Eat just a little bit (or…

T2 diabetic here. I started MFP at 263 pounds and an a1c of 6.5. I am now at 177 with an a1c of 5.6. I have 34 pounds left to go to get to goal.

This is all that counts. If you are eating at a deficit, you will lose. It doesn't matter where the calories come from. You may feel better (healthier?) when you eat at a nutritionally balanced level, but that doesn't matter for actual weight loss. However, weight loss is slow, especially if you are close to your healthy…

Welcome and good luck! I'm in Colorado as well.

Track everything - good, bad or ugly. You can't control your consumption if you don't know what and how much you are consuming.
-
Yup. I eat ALL of my allotted calories and I have lost 85 pounds.
-
This. right here. I eat everything in moderation, but my diet primarily consists of nutritious foods. I just love a slice of pizza, piece of chocolate or slice of cake once in a while and I'm not afraid to work them into my calorie allotment.
