@NorthCascades - I can ride a bike ok but I like the idea of a balance related challenge! Is there anything else you can think of that'll maybe cost less to set up than a cross country ski but is a bit more challenging than riding a bike?

Yikes @ scorpion pose - that'll take a while to get to but I like it. So @quiksylver296 is it fairly standard to bench your weight and squat/deadlift 2x it or is this a special challenge? I never paid that much attention to lifting but it might be a good thing to work on.

I kiiiiiinda wanna try this but am slightly worried I'll kill myself - maybe I'll just focus on the first part! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWXD0JbwT-w

Didn't even think of chin ups/pull ups - they'd go well with my monkey bars one so I'm stealing that. Thanks! Like the getting out of the pool with no ladder too - might give that one a go next time. Looked at the sports list too - there's no way I can do all of them but I might see if there's maybe one from each category…

Hi! First - you're doing the right thing. Losing weight isn't easy but being on here is a big big help so congratulations on a good first step! There are plenty of people on here more knowledgable, motivated and successful at weight loss than I am, but here's a few things I think help. 1. KNOW YOURSELF - no matter what…

Um... I dunno how this sounds in your head, but here's a hint: not a totally welcoming comment for someone who finds forums overwhelming.

Have you got a plan for exercising or are you mostly focusing on your diet?

30+, single, childless, live alone, also work loads, also couldn't really care less about cooking, Probably not neurotic as I'm kind of lazy, and not full time vegetarian I'll admit as I'm a bit too 'Never say never' for that, but I have been veggie (and on a trial basis, vegan) in the past and I still don't eat a whole…

Thank you all so much! Really great range of info. It's going well so far and tonight I'll be checking through all your links and making a final shopping list. Cheers for taking the time to help!

Thank you all so much! Looking forward to trying these different things.

I don't know how long-term I'd stay vegan, definitely. If I were to reintroduce a minimum of animal products for optimum health, what would you recommend? (sorry to keep on but you seem to know a lot about it - thanks in advance!)
-
Thanks! Would you recommend protein powders or are they really not necessary if I'm not lifting or similar?
-
Not to steal anyone's topic (!), but I'd really appreciate some vegan perspectives on a thread I just posted earlier this evening if anyone can help! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1058471-veganism-advice-please

I'd agree - you can't beat yourself up about it, and if you're out socialising you want to enjoy yourself instead of being a downer about things. Maybe: - try to leave a calorie deficit the day before so it isn't as big a deal? - order what you like but restrict portion size/split with someone else? I'd definitely say to…

A good mix of stuff, but with the emphasis on rock and electro. The thing that gets me moving more than anything else is the Rollins band - apart from being rockin' music, I know what Henry Rollins thinks about weightlifting and disciplining your body. Sometimes I have to imagine he's standing there judging my performance,…

It's a bit weird at first if you know the original but it really grows on you!

Not going out of dressing up but we are carving pumpkins! I'm getting ready for an evening of scary movies and pizza. Also my friend's band recorded this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhPpM2JTCdI) for Halloween, so I've been listening to it. They altered the song a bit and it's pretty creepy...

Think the triathlon is a good idea, but there's tons of different stuff you could try in terms of goals - a new dance? A karate belt? Strong enough abs to backflip? Also it sounds like you're really determined and dedicated - why not try helping someone else lose weight and/or train? That would be a real challenge!

Seriously, thank you so much. Some of these stories have literally brought a tear to my eye. I'm going to send her a link to this page now and let her read just how inspiring you all are! People can be amazing - both for what they can achieve and how nicely they can treat other people... :-)

Awesome - thank you!

I know what you mean - I have been eating so much more since I quit smoking three weeks ago! Just starting to get a handle on it now - but it IS possible! If you want to give up smoking, read the Allen Carr book. It will help you change your mindset and see how stupid smoking is. I virtually chain smoked for ten years and…

Thanks Beachlover - it's really inspiring to hear that! Congratulations on coming this far and it sounds like you're loving it enough to keep doing it. I helped her set up a profile on MFP and she liked the look of it, but she doesn't get to come online much. I'll keep encouraging her though - I think it really makes a…

Thanks Keiko and Dorothy - had never heard of Leslie Sansone but will look at the vids! @ Chenoachem: If you don't mind my asking, what was your injury? I'm not sure her knees would be able to take it but I'd certainly like her to try! @ Darrensurrey: I see what you're saying - I just get frustrated because I know it would…

Hi! No idea if you can help but you seem to know your stuff so no harm in asking... I was wondering if you have any tips I can use to help my mum. She's really overweight (needs to lose at least 70lbs) but she finds it hard to exercise because of various injuries (some of which were caused by her being so overweight!). She…

BTW I should mention we live in the UK, and also that she is on medication for a thyroid condition which doesn't help with weight loss!

I'd like to join please!

You don't have to lose it altogether because you slipped up! You just need to refocus. I am similarly a sometime-proponent of things like 'I'll start on Monday' - but DON'T! START NOW! Your weight loss IS happening and it IS possible and this IS the time it will happen! That's why you won't start on Monday - you will start…

Daylight helps me wake up. I read it's a much better way to wake yourself up. In summer it's fine to leave the curtains open, but in winter you can use a special light alarm - try googling Natural Light Alarm Clock. I know it's tricky to wind down and feel like you have enough time in the evenings, but sometimes you have…

Somebody told me that 'If you keep doing what you're doing, you'll keep getting what you're getting'. I wanted to change. I think the idea of what we can be capable of is phenomenal, and I like the idea of a challenge. At least, that's on my good days. On bad days, it's hard, I admit. I find eating right harder than…

Thanks! Carrots might be a good one. And I do definitely feel hungrier when I haven't drunk enough water - sometimes it just sneaks up on you and you don't realise you've barely drunk anything!
