Sounds like a very tough marathon. Way to go for persevering anf conquering it!

I'm doing my 8th half marathon this weekend. It's an event that I love doing - it sells out, it supports our armed forces, it's local. I don't have a particular goal for this event and I'm running it with a friend of mine (he talks a lot, so I could potentially be distracted enough to run much faster than I would on my…

I'm a 115-pound mid-foot striker. I put about 400 miles on a pair of shoes... I either change them when I start feeling aches, when I notice wear on the tread, or at the end of the winter when I realize the salt/ my Yaktrax have disintegrated the mesh on my shoes, whichever comes first. My last three pairs of running shows…

I'm happy to have more runner friends if anyone would like to add me :-) I have no weight to lose, and I have a balance of eating well and not-so-good-for-me things, but I'm planning on improving my diet.

swim: 0 miles (it's clear that August is NOT the month I start swimming lengths!) bike: 154 miles run: 86 miles

I trained exclusively on a treadmill from January until the end of March this year due to my family life commitments and wanting to ensure that my runs were done at the "right" speed according to my plan. Great music and movies helped pass the time by. This being said, my first outdoor run this year was a 30k hilly race...…

I wouldn't be concerned about him not eating potatoes/ rice/ pasta every day... his vegetables are likely sources of carbs as well. Sounds like he's eating pretty well to me, and just letting you know what his preferences are. He'll learn and adjust pretty quickly to his new morning routine. He may be hungry mid-morning…

My hydration belt has two bottles on it. I don't mind carrying it since it doesn't weigh a lot and I do all my long run training runs with it, so I'm used to it. I'm also much better at drinking from a bottle than I am from a cup while I'm running. I'll generally drink water from my bottles and use the water from the aid…

I wear a Road ID bracelet any time I run or I'm on my bike... it indicates that I have no known allergies, two "in case of emergency" phone numbers, and my health card number. Two of my fears are that something will happen on a run/ ride and my daughter will be left at school/ day camp etc. with no one there to get her, or…

I'm in. Totals so far: Swim: 0 Bike: 25 miles Run: 20 miles

I run with my roadID (a bracelet with my name, health card number and two phone numbers on it). Apart from that, I just run in areas that I feel are safe - residential areas or along cycle paths or sidewalks where there are other people out and about being active.

I did a number of sessions with a girlfriend of mine who had multiple stress fractures in both legs. It was a great way for her to keep her cardio up while her injuries healed. I trained with a heart rate monitor, staying within specific zones, for those workouts. It was very easy to increase or decrease the intensity of…

I've actually never enjoyed large crowds in any form, but I don't avoid them. Even pre-Boston, I had considered that running events would be easy targets. The lead-up to my first large event post-Boston had me pretty stressed thinking about security concerns, but it didn't stop me from running the event. 26.2 miles is a…

Hi I'm Cathy. I'm focusing on my marathon at the end of May right now, but after that I'd like to start improving my speed at shorter distances. I've never "raced" a 5k or any event for that matter - I've run tonnes of events, but I've always just run at a comfortable happy pace. I've been running for over 10 years, and…

I love studies that "prove" what seems to be obvious or common sense things, too :-P I've always been active, so it's all my daughter has ever known. I've done so many sporting activities with her, either with her in a backpack carrier, attached to my bike, in a running stroller, or actually doing them herself alongside…

I'm also happy to have more triathlete/ duathlete friends :-)

Same user name as here: CathOh I haven't actually used my Garmin yet - I'm such a low-tech girl. But I will one of these days and would love to have friends on there when I start using it. I'd be happy for anyone to add me!

The front wheel should definitely be in a locked position when running or if on loose, rocky, gravely terrain. You can unlock it if you're doing your grocery shopping with it or just walking around town. Rather than lifting the back wheels off the ground to turn or adjust the stroller, push down on the handle and lift the…

I don't fuel specifically for weekday training runs (they're almost always at about 8 pm, and I eat regularly throughout the day). Before my long runs, I have oatmeal and coffee about 1.5-2 hrs before. I don't fuel during any training/ event that is less than 3 hours.

I care. It would drive me bonkers to not round up. But I have problems with running 6 km or 8 km instead of an even 10 km as well.

If it's 13 degrees celcius+, I'm out there in shorts and a t-shirt :-)

I have a Deuter Race Expo Air that I use for cycling or running on my commutes to work. It has a mesh back so that air can enter between your back and the pack. It also has padded shoulder straps, and a buckle across the chest and around your waist so it doesn't move and result in chafing. Something like that may suit your…

Thanks everyone. ATT949, I'll check out those links at home tonight as I'm not able to open them at work. But it sounds like this is pretty much what I might have been hoping for.

I don't run with a pack, but I've seen a number of marathon and running events not allowing packs or Camelbaks in their races. You may want to verify your event(s) before investing in a pack for training that you may not be able to actually use on race day.

I'm a single mom to a five-year-old child. Yes, my emotional, mental and physical well-being are a priority to me, but so is spending time with my daughter in that short period between work/ school and her bedtime. I can confirm that it IS possible to work out at home if that is what you decide to do. I have a lot of…

Me :-) But you already knew about that!

I don't notice any difference in my monthly cycle in terms of energy levels, but I've been on the BCP forever. I woudl also second the Diva Cup suggestion. Installed correctly, it'll never leak, you won't know it's there and it can be kept inside for quite a while :-)

It would take me 2.5 hours of running at 6.5 mph for me to burn 1000 calories. That definitely doesn't happen on a daily basis. I typically run or cycle for an hour per day, averaging a calorie burn of between 400-450 calories based on my heart rate monitor (which considers my age, height, weight, etc).

I joined myfitnesspal to make sure I didn't lose weight while I increased my running and cycling distances. I lost 15 pounds (from 130 to 115 pounds) when I trained for my first marathon... I just couldn't eat enough. This time as I'm training for my upcoming marathon, my starting weight is 115 pounds, and I really don't…
