To build muscle properly you need to do 2 things. 1. Do strength training. 2. Eat more calories than your body burns, creating a small surplus.

I do know people who have met on MFP and gotten into relationships. Some have not ended well. I don't know anyone who's gotten together on MFP and is still together, but there are a lot of people here and I'm sure it's worked well for certain people. Just make sure to be careful, and remember that you don't really know…

Exactly. He's clearly playing into the narrative that rape is something that women lie about all the time, which goes to discredit rape victims everywhere. And I have a quibble with the host qualifying his statement with "and I accept it's a very unlikely thing to happen." Is he aware of how prevalent rape is in this…

I just signed up! It gets more expensive the longer you wait, so I wanted to get it done now. Had a bunch of friends who ran the course last year and really enjoyed it, so I'm working myself up to be ready for it by December.

I love the taste of meat in my mouth.

My suggestion would just get a pure 100% Whey Protein powder from GNC or some place similar. Get it in a flavor that works for you, and try out some things that work for you. When I used to drink it, I would just mix it with some gatorade, but you can mix it with water, or milk, or blend in some fruit, peanut butter, or…

Mine too. Hard to read this headline any other way. I had "Poker Face" playing in my head when I saw it.

I definitely recommend adding strength training to your workout! It's a great way for women to lose weight and get good muscle definition. There are literally a ton of different ways to strength training, and I'm sure people will post them here, and you should be able to find additional ones on youtube and google. It's…

I'm actually the exact opposite. I'll go for a while without gaming, but when I get a game, I play the hell out of it until I finish it and then I usually lay off gaming for a little while. The exception is Skyrim. That game I may very well keep playing the rest of my life.

My favorite line from that article:

The problem I have with this tax is while it sounds good in theory, it's also very regressive. Unfortunately the poor have the fewest options when it comes to eating healthy, and are the most likely the ones to be affected by this tax. So I think education is the best option instead of financial penalty.

Everyone else pretty much covered your first question. As to your second question, Scarlett Johansson would be nice.

I'm training for Tough Mudder in December, which is similar to Warrior Dash but 10-12 miles instead of 3. I'm doing C25K to get up on the running (and then probably moving to a more serious running training program) and working on core strength for the obstacles. The key to most of them is your ability to support and…

Trust your instincts. Any weight loss from supplements is temporary and almost always comes back when the person stops using the supplement, and they have dangerous side effects. Diet and exercise are the only tried and true method to lose weight.

You can find soy based protein powder at most health/nutrition stores.

Good catch. Then the HRM seems more accurate. Did you enter your weight on the treadmill before using it? If you didn't, the readings are going to be way off. The HRM is most likely more accurate for someone of your weight. EDIT: Also, it's important to know that the Treadmill doesn't actually take your heart rate into…
-
Besides bottled water, you're not going to find anything healthy to buy at the cinema. Your best bet is to bring with you a snack that you usually enjoy eating.
-
It's important to realize that both treadmill calorie counts and HRM calorie counts are estimates, and should be treated as such. Wayyyy to much emphasis is put into HRMs on this site, as if their calorie readings are the gospel. Heart rate is not the only factor that determines calorie loss. Several other factors…

If you think MFP is bad, you must be new to the internet. Try reading a Yahoo News message board.

It seems like you at least pulled something. It can be healed on its own, but it could be something more serious. Like others have said, your doctor is the best person to go to, especially if it doesn't feel better in the next day or two. If you don't have insurance and can't afford a doctor, make sure to rest it, drink…

A side note to people with ad blockers: You realize that ads are the only thing that keeps the internet free? Unless you want to pay $10 a month to use MFP, do your part and lets sites show you annoying ads that help keep them up and running.
-
MFP doesn't control the advertising. The ads are hosted by google, and they advertise based on things you comment on and search for on the internet. So if you post "Mcdonalds sucks," the ad software just reads McDonalds and decides to give you an ad on that. That's why at one point I was getting a lot of HCG related ads,…

Use the hotel gym, even if it's junky. Also, you can be the strange person running the stairs in the hotel for a good workout. Many people get off track when traveling because they use it as an excuse. If you don't let it be one for you, you'll find that it's not that hard to stay on track.

I think it varies widely on the girl, and if you're not sure, it's better to go with out. While I'm sure many women find flowers flattering (and they clearly do by the responses on this thread), there are also women who don't find flowers on the first date, or at all, appropriate. In my opinion, there's more risk than…

Had a pretty good experience with this the first time, so lets try this again

Yup. Which excludes most Sushi Restaurants. But the Sushi FAQ that Guru posted is definitely the best place to start. Although do realize that specialty roles, especially anything baked, tempura style, or with lots of mayonnaise based sauces will have significantly more calories.

They're using outdated advice. Most advice now is to lift more weight and less reps, even for women. To the OP, once you figure out how many reps are right for you, you should life so that last rep should be a bit of a struggle, but attainable. I suggest using a descending rep count, so start your first set with the…
