Agree on the burpees, but my relationship is more hate/hate. :) Turkish get-ups are brutal, but I love the accomplishment of doing a set with an 8Kg weight, so I guess that makes it a love/hate relationship for me.

Yeah, baby! That's what I'm talking about. Last time I saw them on tour was for Presto, though. Amazing longevity. I can't say it was my best concert, though. That's a tough one to nail down. It's somewhere in here: Lollapalooza 90-something, with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Ministry (!!), with Red Hot Chili Peppers…

Michael Phelps walked in and said, "Dude, you were ripping it up in the pool!"

Definitely bacon-wrapped dates. Love the sweet/salty taste combination. Dead simple to make, and not too bad for you either.

Yep, all of this. The night before my workout mornings, I pack my gym bag, and put it with my towel and water in the car. I also have my gym clothes laid out. But the single biggest factor is having a commitment to meet--for me, that was regular sessions with my trainer. Now that I am working out twice a week on my own, I…

Cheese is one food I will not compromise on, especially when it comes to cheddar. I'm from the Pacific Northwest, and Tillamook is the gold standard here (among high-volume, mass-produced makers). Nothing but a slice of real medium cheddar will do on a grilled cheese sandwich. Of course, if I have the choice of some…

Yep, me too. Although I definitely get more teary-eyed during the stage show than at the movie...both times it was when Jean Valjean was dying, and the dead Fantine is there to comfort him. Otherwise kept it together during the movie pretty well. The stage show is a different story...because the performance is live, the…

My legs, specifically my thighs. When I do a wall sit, they are a pair of steel rods, solid muscle. Even my trainer said I didn't have much fat left to lose on them.

I do my lifting, then 20-30 minutes of cardio, and then have my protein in the car. If you live just a short distance from the gym, then it seems reasonable to do it there.

I've hit plateaus a couple of times in the past three or four months, and what has worked for me is to actually increase calories for a short period of time (say, a Saturday night dinner at a good steakhouse, order whatever you want). My trainer and nutritionist call this "keeping my metabolism guessing", and while I'm not…

We have a few specialties: Little Smokie Wraps (dead simple: cut a sheet of crescent roll dough into small triangles and wrap around each smokie, then bake for 10 minutes) Bacon-wrapped dates (the carmelized sugar in the dates with the crispy-salty-meaty goodness of bacon...oh man) The Big Salad (we make a huge version of…

Nature Valley Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate Protein Chewy Bar (10g protein, 190cal). KIND bars: the Nut Delight is 7g of protein and about 200 calories. SUPER yummy, only "real" ingredients, gluten-free. They also make some bars with added protein as well. Anything KIND makes is awesome.

I have two. 1. Going to Eddie Bauer and after trying on jeans, getting the pair of straight-leg jeans, instead of loose/relaxed/boot-cut that I have been normally getting. 2. Being able to buy L shirts instead of XL. I realize that I'm going to need to buy a bunch of new tops since most of my closet is XL, and some of them…

Faces are good, but I think some un-earthly sounds would help as well. Maybe some Monica Seles-esque grunts and groans, and an occasional "Dear mother of God, when will the pain end?" while doing reverse flys or squats. Some well-timed vomiting would also do the trick.

Good on you for saying this, I totally agree. Here are my non-negotiables: REAL sugar in my tea. I never have, and never will, touch a pink/yellow/blue packet. Tillamook cheddar cheese. Low-fat/non-fat cheese is affront to real cheese. Bacon. Mmm....bacon. Preferably Fletcher's Thick-Cut Maple Bacon. I agree with the rest…

You had me at tea. Disclaimer: I'm a tea snob, so please read the following with a grain (or ten) of humor. People should enjoy whatever tea they like, but to me, tea is Serious Business, and nothing but the best will do for me. I drink my tea English Style: with a splash (about a tbs) of milk (never cream or half…

35 pounds in less than four months.

I hear you about not having time in the morning to fix anything. I get up three days a week at 5:30am, and have everything pre-packed and in my car ready to go to the gym. I will leave a banana and a Nature Valley PB/Dark Chocolate protein bar in the car, and eat those on my way to the gym...no time for even toast. After…

Hi Keith, I'm just down I-5 near Seattle, so we're practically neighbors. :) We love Vancouver and its environs, and look forward to returning there on holidday. Cheers!

All of those are great, and my trainer puts me through a variety of them depending on whether we are doing push day or pull day. Today it was push day, and we did the Turkish Get Up. Here's a link to a video which explains the exercise and a variant on how to do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGRBvom4Zrw&feature=plcp…

Damn. That's like the turducken of cookies.

I'm 5'10.5", and started at 262, and my nutritionist suggested 2200 calories per day, which has gone down to 2000, then 1800, and now 1700 as I have lost weight (I am currently at 225). This last number is from MFP for a 1.5 lb/week loss. On non-workout days, when I don't have my exercise calories, it's hard, as I…

For me, it is protein. Sitting next to me on my desk is a box of KIND bars (Fruit & Nut Delight, but my favorite is just plain Nut Delight), a container of the peanut-butter pretzel bites from CostCo, and another container of Kirkland trail mix, again from CostCo. No more hitting the vending machine when the mid-afternoon…

First, keep rockin' the weight loss. Second, keep things in perspective and remember where you've *been*. 67 pounds down is a huge accomplishment. Realize that if you can do that, then getting the rest of the way to your goal should be a piece of cake (probably not the best metaphor given the situation, but what the hell.…

For cardio, my trainer has me do intervals on a stationary bike/elliptical trainer/treadmill, but the concept is the same: 2-3 minute warm-up at a low resistance level/speed (usually level 1-3 on the bike or elliptical, 2-3mph on the treadmill) The first interval is 2-3x the base level/speed, after which you drop back down…

I have been working with a nutritionist + weight-loss counselor + a personal trainer for about two months now, as part of a weight management program that my company provides. I have Skype chats with the nutrionist about once a month, and bi-weekly with the counselor. My nutritionist didn't put me on a restrictive meal…

KIND bars aren't technically granola bars, but they are my favorite energy-type bar by far. I feel guilty eating them, they are so good. All natural ingredients, usually 4-6 per bar, gluten-free, and nothing you can't pronounce. :) My favorites are Nut Delight, Fruit and Nut Delight, and Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate +…
