Cat food is much higher in protein and lower in carbs. It's definitely the way to go here. Either way, make sure you get the gluten free. variety.

Everyone is an expert. I read recently that the internet provides us with a lot of information but not very much real knowledge. I hear the "obsessive" comment in other contexts as well. In particular, because I have a number of alcoholics close to me, I often hear "they just replaced drinking with going to meetings." This…

Two weeks off work with the people I love most in the world, and don't see often enough because I'm on the other side of the country. People I'm so close to that we can spend time sitting reading and enjoying quiet together. That, and my niece and I are getting tattoos. She picked one for me - an open book with an…

I thought I was the only one. My objection to the show started with the title, and I've never had time for it. I only have two issues with the articles the OP quoted. One is the contempt for people who get to that size. I don't believe this happens for no reason and I think often it's a way of self medicating. I don't have…

Every once in a while a typo is too perfect to ignore. Thanks for making me laugh, ps coconut is a great idea.

Baked oatmeal is really good. If the reason you don't like it is the texture, try baking it. It's nice baked in milk with a little vanilla and lemon peel. When I'm just having regular, weekday top of the stove oatmeal, I like it with some kind of nut (pecans or walnuts), a little grated apple, and a little bit of maple…

I try looking at myself the same way I look at my friends. When I see a picture of myself and think "ughfatuglydisgusting" I try to remember that when I look at pictures of friends I always think about how their essential self shines through in their smile or the look in their eyes. I see *them*, not their weight, and I…

I think both are true. Sometimes I think we have lost our resilience and ability to roll with the punches. I am tempted to say "no one ever died from hurt feelings" but recent bullying-induced suicides indicate that this is not true. At least not true it the hurt feelings happen in a relentless and ongoing way. On the…

Said the man who is never getting laid again. Snicker. I got my niece a subscription to Panty by Post for Christmas. She goes online once a month and picks the pair she wants and they mail them to her.

Tell us a little bit about her. Women are as different as men are - I'd rather have books than jewellery. We need something to work with here.

Absolutely! Often when I log what I think is a disaster it turns out it isn't so bad. Knowledge is power.

I didn't read all four pages so I don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but my understanding is that wheat has been genetically modified to contain much more gluten than it contains naturally. This keeps it stable in commercial baking. Apparently you can test this by trying to bake bread or cake with a recipe…

For me, it helps if I can step back from my desire to eat and recognize that it is just a thought and I can control my thoughts. Thoughts also fade away if you don't follow them along, if that makes any sense. Instead of seizing on the thought of food, just notice you're having it and let it go, and move on to the next,…

I love vegetables. They taste completely different if you toss them in a little olive oil and salt and pepper and roast them in the oven for half an hour or so. You can also make almost all green vegetables taste good by heating some garlic and ginger in olive oil (good fat), then tossing in the veg with a little soy…

Not everyone, but not just me either. The link between carbonated beverages and osteoporosis is widely documented, and if you wind up at a specialist your consumption will be a subject for discussion. Personally, I don't think it's worth the risk although plenty of people don't worry about it at all. The main thing is…

I've never taken manganese so can't comment, but I can tell you from experience that vitamin B12 works this quickly if you are deficient. Also, it isn't always possible to correct deficiencies through diet. Some people have problems absorbing nutrients, and deficiences can be masked as something else for years and years.…

I'd suggest start experiementing with recipes, especially vegetables and grains like quinoa with simple roast chicken or fish. The library is a great starting point, you can check out all kinds of cookbooks without having to buy them. And there are some great recipe sites online. It's so much easier if you can have a small…

I have been Strongly Urged by osteoporosis specialists to not drink carbonated beverages of any kind because it leeches calcium from your bones, making them break easily. I've had a lifelong diet coke habit and have have 5 fractures in the last 4 years. I promise you, this is no way to live. The people who are diagnosed…

I looked at your diary. I absolutely think you need to eat more. You're eating crisps because you're starving and they're fast and easy. And imo you need to add a lot of fruit and veg to your diet, either cooked or raw, but more veg than fruit. You can do it!

I had a series of colonics many years ago. Although it is a very undignified process, my skin was absolutely transformed. Never looked so beautiful and translucent since.

My understanding is that although eggs have cholesterol, they dont contribute to high cholesterol in our bodies. I eat eggs as well, and will sometimes keep a few hardboiled eggs in the fridge for a snack.

I just started this book, and am interested to know if it's worked for anyone? It makes sense to me, but so do pretty much any diet book ever written, they all make a reasonable sounding argument until you learn theyre unsustainable. However, I do have pretty insane hormonal issues - menopause, and hypothyroid - at the…

Some doctors will tell you the amount of fber recommended here is too low. Fiber is a good thing, no need to worry about it (unless you have something like Crohn's disease, in which case you need to be cautious).

I'm learning to be comfortable being a little hungry. It's not the end of the world, especially before bed time. But a desire to eat that isn't related to hunger is much harder for me. Are you eating enough fiber? I find making sure I get lots of fiber (via vegetables rather than fruit) with my meals keeps me full longer.

I make ginger tea. Cut up a big knob of ginger (no need to peel it), add a sliced lemon and a sliced orange. Put in a pot of water and simmer for half an hour. You can add a little mapel syrup if you need it, it's very spicy and peppery. I never worry about eating if I don't feel like it because I'm sick. I figure a few…

No prediction, but watching Justin Bieber lip synching in hammer pants seems like the ideal time to do a few sit ups.

I don't log things like a clove of garlic, chopped fresh ginger, tbsp of soy sauce (I dont track sodium). So things with small caloric values, no, unless I estimate they hit 25 calories or more in the course of a day.

Lozzieemay, I don't know STrooper but I expect he is trying to be helpful in the best way he can. I was interested to read you have been on antidepressants. When I went on them a number of years ago I gained 70 lbs. I don't know the chemistry of it, but I do know they made me hungry, and they made my body cling to weight…

I would be cautious about this approach, especially if you're hungry at night anyway. I find if I eat a good breakfast, usually protein and fruit and a little carb, I am much less likely to start grazing after dinner.

I can feel self conscious at the gym as well, and generally use it for classes like spin, and for cardio. Sometimes I use the weight machines and sometimes I don't. I bought an exercise ball and use it at home for sit ups, and use dumbbells at home as well. For what it's worth, though, I often watch heavier people at the…
