  • There has been a ton of material written about gender role identity, and if there isn't a very large subset about sports within that material I would be surprised. A reference librarian at your local public library could help you create a very specific reading list. I'd be interested to read your paper when it's done.
  • I've been meditating for years, happy to join you for 21 days.
  • My understanding of this is that it doesn't mean to pretend nothing is wrong. It's about thinking of yourself in a positive way when you don't really believe it. . Personally, I have found that having all the inisight and intelligence in the world about my situation doesn't help one iota when it seems impossible to put it…
  • Sometimes I find I don't bounce back so much as slowly claw my way back an inch at a time. In AA and Al Anon they talk about "act as if" - in this case, act as if everything is fine and this was a perfect day. Proceed from there rather than from a sense of shame and inadequacy. It sounds weird, but it works.
  • I didn't read every post so I may be repeating what someone said My understanding is that very low carb diets create ketosis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketosis This leads to weightloss that, in my observation, is very difficult to maintain.
  • I learned this when my MFPeeps pointed it out to me. Watch for the number of confirmations, in red at the top of the box.
  • Skin alone won't take the fiber from 2 to 19 grams. If you look through the entries on the database you will see that most entries have a lower valule for fiber.
  • I looked at your diary, and I think the fiber from the eggplant is too high. Did you check the database for confirmations? According to livestrong.com, one cup of eggplant has only 2 grams of fiber. That being said, 80 grams is a ton of fiber. I would suggest that the level of fiber that constipates you is too high.
  • Nerds come at a variety of ages. I am a book nerd. Complete and utter,.
  • I'm gluten free and don't have trouble with carbs. Rice, corn, quinoa and potatoes will all add to your carbs (espcially potatoes, which often put me over). Fruit will bump up your carbs as well, especially bananas. I have found that Tinkyada make my favourite gluten free pasta. Rice noodles are good as well. And although…
  • For me it's mostly mental. When I'm feeling good it's no problem to control what I eat and and get the exercise I need. When I'm feeling sick, blue or low energy it's a real struggle to care enough to be healthy. Take a breath, and enjoy that book. This will pass.
  • This is actually not true. I'm overweight, and have been for some time. My blood pressure is low, my blood sugar is perfect, my cholesterol is low. I exercise, I am pretty careful what I eat, and my blood work is always ideal or a bit better than. It's possible for people to be healthy at a lot of different weights. And…
  • I have a partial femoral stress fracture. It is taking a long time to heal, but I have osteoporosis. I understand that people with healthy bones heal more quickly. My walks are limited to half an hour, which is the maximum I can walk without pain. Cycling (and spin class with low resistance) have been fine for me. Someone…
  • plug it into google translate. Presto. It can actually be really fun to translate a phrase back and forth a few times. You almost always get something hilarious.
  • I weighed myself constantly, probably half a dozen times a day. I tucked my scale away for the month of February. The first week was brutal, I was wildly anxious. I somehow thought that without checking I was in danger of gaining 20 lbs overnight (yeah, I know). After that I settled down. And the odd thing was that it…
  • check out Jamie Oliver's 15 minute meals here: http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/category/books/jamie-s-15-minute-meals not all low calorie, but usually yummy, and adaptable. I always check out new cookbooks at the library before I decide if they're worth buying.
  • You are a fawning, fat-kidneyed harpy. http://www.pangloss.com/seidel/shake_rule.html (shakespearean insult site)
  • I worked out for awhile at a women's boxing gym in Toronto and absolutely LOVED it. It was hard as hell but I never felt weak when I was doing it. And something about taping up my hands made me feel instantly powerful. I hurt myself badly (not because of the boxing) and can't go back to it, which makes me unhappy. The gym…
  • Someone, possibly Oscar Wilde, said that everyone should be in love twice. Once we should love the other person more than they love us, and once we should be loved more. Not only does this seem right to me, it's also a good reminder that love is different every time. There are no defining elements. I am no expert on…
  • That's interesting, this is exactly what I do. I'm sure there is some complex science about the exact balance of protein, carbs and fat, but half a meal is manageable for me - not too full to be at the gym, and something to eat after.
  • Anything by Cher seems to release my Inner Gay Man. In the best way.
  • You can expect that all those yogis who make it look so effortless had to walk into a class for the first time and wonder what to expect. You can expect to the learn the difference between pain that will injure you and pain that will make you feel good tomorrow. You can expect (if you are like me) that you will have to do…
  • I struggle with this as well, but this technique works for me, too- I remember how crappy I felt after my last episode of comfort eating. Usually, it's lousy. I've started paying a lot more attention since I've been logging my meals here. I used to always think that emotional eating worked, but when I pay attention I…
  • kale chips are delicious and easy to make. Cut the stems out of a bunch of kale. You can leave the leaves whole or pull them into smaller pieces. I generally pull them in half. Use about 1 tbsp of olive oil per head, but you can certainly use less, perhaps half. Toss the kale with the olive oil, then sprinkle with salt (I…
  • i actually don't think this is true. Firstly, wheat or gluten doesn't constitute a whole food group, nor is it essential to health. And secondly, a lot of vegetarians and vegans would take strong exception to this. People eliminate foods from their diet all the time, for many different reasons, with no ill effects.
  • i've never tried to write the word "****" here, but i did belong to a forum where we had to refer to the former vice president as Richard Cheney. *Aha, no d*cks here either, apparently.*
  • There are many gluten free people here. If you type "gluten" into the search box you'll find all kinds of conversation about it. If you cut it out entirely, you'll know within a week if there is a change, but you need to be vigilant about getting it out of your diet. If you only get half of it out you won't see any change,…
  • I'm a bookish sort of person and work in publishing, so people think I'm "highbrow". But I LOVE the Real Housewives of Anywhere. Please don't tell anyone. People also tend to think I'm more socialy conservative than I am; I'm externally respectable. But every once in a while, even at nearly 56, my inner wild child needs to…
  • I hear there is a new thing where men can actually make their own meals. Sounds weird, but I hear it's true.
