I hear you, and I've been meditating for nearly ten years. Just like not reaching for the chips or going to the gym, meditation takes some discipline. I sometimes have to make myself do it, but it always leave me feeling good.

Have you ever tried meditation? There are a lot of different techniques you can try, but it can be amazingly refreshing to meditate for 20 minjutes.

That would have totally horrified me! Who would think a sandwich would have so many calories? I hate surprises like this and try to log everything in advance, but it can be really challenging when I'm out for dinner, whether i'm at a friend's or a restaurant. The thing that really stunned me when I started looking at…

I generally have no problem catering to people's preferences when I'm cooking for them. But I recently had a dinner party for some people I'd never cooked for. I sent out the usual email asking about food allergies or any hated foods and got back an email saying "I don't eat anything too sweet, too salty, or too oily"…

Don't forget the kind, the helpful, the supportive and the sympathetic. There are lots of these, they're just a little quieter.

Sometimes this happens to me in spin class, when I've been working very, very hard. I've always associated it with endorphins, although I could be completely wrong. And it feels like joyful tears, not sad ones. I actually really love it when I hit this moment, it feels really good to me.

That is inexcusable. If you really like your doctor, complain. If you don't, find a new one. Or maybe find a new one AND complain. Apart from the terrible weight loss advice, to suggest you have sex whether you want to or not is appalling. The 21st century is perfectly nice, she might want to join us here.

Beatrix Lestrange. I'd like to try out being evil for a day. I wonder if it's all it's cracked up to be?

My pleasure. I feel I should add that for me, working on my character has involved working hard on developing clearer and firmer boundaries - sometimes, saying no to people makes me a much better person.

Your post made me think of this quote: The thought manifests as the word; the word manifests as the deed; the deed develops into habit; and habit hardens into character. So watch the thought and its ways with care, and let it spring from love born out of concern for all beings. Buddha Good luck, I wish you all the best…

I'm at 1400. I lost lots of weight at 1200, but started having insane binge days. It wasn't sustainable for me. This is much better, and seems like the right amount of food for me. If anyone wants to friend me, my diary is open to friends.

For me, it makes a difference. I don't know about anyone else, although the study would indicate that I'm not the only one. I find it very hard to sustain, though, unless I'm away from my normal life and routine. Now that I think about it, it might also have to do with darkness and circadian rhythms. Who knows?

I was responding to the poster who asked about the exact time to stop eating, and having a temporary struggle with the quote function. I was surmising (like all of us here who haven't carried out a study). It makes no sense to me that there is an actual time, ie 6 pm of whatever. It makes much more sense to measure the…

Every time I go camping I wish I had one. Congrats!!

I expect it is different for different people. I lose weight much more easily if I eat my biggest meal earlier in the day. It's challenging, though, because of social and family obligations that revolve around dinner. "Every time the meal timing question comes up, I have to ask: what if you're eating dinner on a plane and…

Try changing your age to 55. Works for me.

This is essentially how I think of it as well. For me, it's not good or bad so much as complex and simple carbs. There are some very good books that will give you a lot of information about glycemic load, which is more complicated than the gluycemic index (there is a lot of math involved). If you are worried about insulin…

I love frozen grapes, I think they taste like candy. Looks like there are lots of us!

This might be my favourite typo of all time. Are you tracking fiber? I have noticed that sometimes the more fiber i eat the more trouble I have, although I generally eat around 25 grams a day. I seem to do a bit better when I'm below 15, or even 10. Not sure why that is, and i'm trying to figure out if it's a difference…

You did really well! I have had a few friends over the course of my life who were "eating buddies" - getting together was an excuse to overeat, because we both did it. (There was once a particularly hideous incident involving those delicious biscuits at Red Lobster. I can't speak of it.) It feels funny when one of you…

Age: 55 Gender: F Married? Divorced Kids? No Goal weight: Not sure. Honestly. Current weight: shhhh. But I'd like to lose between 20 and 40 lbs. I'll know when I get there. Height: 5.4 Favorite exercise: Spinning! I also love yoga, although I don't consider it actual exercise. Least favorite exercise: Not sure. I like…

oh my god that's funny. Seriously. I am one of the twisted ones who loves a pun.. In response to the OP, no, I've never had that happen. But if someone wants to pray for me, I'm grateful. It's a generous gesture, makes them feel good, and doesn't affect me whatsoever. I happily accept it.

I am no defender of aspartame or soda, and stop drinking diet coke every few weeks (I never last more than a couple of weeks, it's a slippery slope for me). My personal belief is that it's bad for me. However, you might want to type "diet coke formaldehyde" into the search function over at snopes.com.

How is this different from refusing to hire people of different races based on an assumption that is nothing more than bigotry? BMI doesn't measure health, and can be badly skewed when people have a lot of muscle mass. As many people said, it depends on the person. And it depends on the job. Better that the hospital…

I am always amazed that a person well say "you're fat" to someone. Like they somehow don't know, and this is the crucial missing piece of the puzzle. Weight can be changed. Obnoxious is forever.

Meatlof and Cheap Trick (who were fantastic) at an outdoor venue. You could tell that pretty much everybody there had lost their virginity to Paradise by the Dashboard Lights.

One is not so bad, and is really a normal way of eating if you don't do it too often (and don't have a blood sugar issue). You can probably fit it into your calories for the day. Quite often I'll eat something and then think "oh, my day is ruined, I'll eat everything in sight," but if I log what I ate it is never as bad as…

Stuff half an avocado with a tuna salad made with a little mayo and chopped cilantro, or a light shrimp salad. yummy. I also love them cubed with a squeeze of lemon, a drizzle of soy sauce, some nice salt and sesame seeds. Add a little salt if you need it. So delish!

That's funny. How does he explain why you weigh more just after drinking a couple of glasses of water? He reminds me of a story called Obstinate Uncle Otis by Robert Arthur - you may be able to find it online. Uncle Otis refuses to believe in anything he can't see, and refuses to see anything he doesn't like. There is a…

How lovely that Ed cooks for you. I think that creativity is the same thing that doesn't allow men to ask for directions. Why use a cookbook? How hard can it be? Perhaps as a gift he might enjoy a cooking class. It's all in how you spin it - "Ed, sweetie, I love the way you cook for me, I thought you might enjoy learning…
