I was interested to see this. I'm not a scientist or expert it any way, but I do believe that weight is more complex than people allow. Science is fluid; what we believe is absolute truth today will be completely changed in ten years. And different people have different experiences gaining or losing weight. Thanks for…

I just made this, it was fantastic (but also very salty): http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Salmon-Bulgogi-with-Bok-Choy-and-Mushrooms-242481 Have you tried serving grilled salmon with a quinoa pilaf?

Spoon (I never liked soggy bread). Have you thought about whole wheat chapati?

I generally mash them with something else, carrots, or equal parts turnips and parsnips. There aren't a ton of ways to make turnip taste great. Unlike beets!

I struggle with this as well. I looked at your diary, you may want to also track sugars. You seem to be eating a lot of sugary foods, fo rme this always results in a crash half an hour later. You might want to try snacking on things like almonds and a piece of fruit and see if that makes a difference.

I'm 55. If you search the groups you will find that there several dedicated groups for people our age.

Thanks, everyone. They were delicious, and I think they will become a regular part of my diet!

I have to respectfully disagree. Not only are we not all the same, our bodies don't even respond the same way over the course of our lifetimes. What worked for me to change my body when I was 25 is not the same now that I'm 55. I have to keep mixing it up, and have had to learn to continue to try new things to find what…

Bikram has a high rate of injury compared to other styles of yoga. Keep in mind that the heat allows your muscles to stretch beyond what is a true stretch for them. People like this because it makes them feel more flexible than they might really be, but make sure you take care not to over do it.

I was wondering about this as well. I am changing the weights for different exercises. I can use a much higher weight for the bicep curls than I can for the lateral raises. It makes it a little frantic changing them up.

He may have ruined lives by pressuring others on his team to dope. I just read an interview with a cyclist who has also been financially ruined by being caught doping (he has to repay all his winnings), and he said there was huge pressure from Armstrong to take drugs. I don't think the doping undoes all the good he has…

Are you logging what you eat? I used to do what you do and felt that there was no relation between what I ate and what I weighed. Even though I knew that was ridiculous, it felt disconnected to me. The logging keeps me honest. I had to really change my attitude about cooking. I caught myself saying to a friend "I like to…

There is a great cookbook called How It All Vegan, you can check it out here. http://www.blog.govegan.net/ My favourite vegan dish is a vegetarian baked beans that is yummy and filling. This is a great idea, I would be interested in a one day a week vegan challenge. I can't give up meat because of some vitamin and mineral…

I know, right? But we can learn to do it. It's very easy on the back as well. Kind of explains the dreaded Asian toilet.

My yoga teacher talks about this a lot. He recommends learning to squat the way you often see people in Asian countries squatting. Generally when we try to do this we fall over backwards and it takes a lot of effort, but when your hips are open it's a restful position. You can learn to do this with your back againsts the…

Wow, No words.

Thanks for this, it's super helpful and I'm going to mix in my spin class. I'm about to start day 5 of level 1, and am beyond tired. I start and want to die, but when I finish I walk around the house flexing my biceps. I know I'll feel better at the end. Part of me wishes that when you're 55 you get more rest days. A big…

My gym gets busy in January, and in September when the weather gets cooler. It means having to line up for a whle to get into my favourite spin class, and I sometimes need to wait to use machines. I put in my ear buds, listen to music, and do some stretching. Waiting a few minutes never killed anybody. Lots of people may…

I'm on a short story kick. This is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz is fantastic, as is What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank by Nathan Englander. They're different, but both smart and beautifully written.

Have you tried gradually raising your calories, 100 calories a day until you reach your goal? If you're not used to that much food I can see how it would make you feel queasy. i second the avocado suggestion. If I had a lot of extra calories to play with, homemade guacomole would be a part of my life on a regular basis!

i remember reading somewhere that the cholesterol in eggs does not convert to cholesterol in your body. I believe it is the saturated fat in the egg yolk you need to watch out for. So as long as your fats aren't too high, or are mostly healthy fats, this should be okay.
-
Wow, thanks everyone! I cant wait to try them!

That sounds challenging. I struggle to find low impact activities as well due to injuries. Does the reccumbent bike give you as much trouble? Other than that, I would suggest swimming, and perhaps walking if that works for you. Best of luck finding something that works for you.

When I'm calculating something like a homemade kale salad I just figure out the kale, berries and olive oil. The calories in cilantro and green onion is negligible, so I don't worry about it (although I know there are people here who count every last calorie. Personally, I don't worry about anything less than 25 calories).…

I use Moroccan oil curl cream as well, it's the best thing I've ever used on my hair. Never used 8 pumps, though, gonna try it tomorrow.

That's okay. Everyone experiments in college.

I got it. I thought I was being funny about cleaning.

This is great except for the "I clean" part.

Sexual attraction is a complicated thing, and is different for men and women. Interesting to see the breakdown of comments by gender here. This has been a factor in all my involvements. When I weighed 106 lbs my husband criticized my weight, and when I was much heavier men I dated criticized my weight. I'm not sure what it…
