Did we check out the same PF? I got the same response about deadlifts. This past weekend I checked out a powerlifting gym, not fancy, no treadmills or ellipticals , just weights. The guy who owns it is a former bodybuilder and now he trains bodybuilders, powerlifters, figure competitors, etc., he HATES PF. His gym is close…

the previous homeowner converted the one-car garage into a bedroom, long and narrow. Doesn't work as a bedroom, but works great for a workout room. No machines, only weights, with a bench and room for cardio via workout dvds on computer.

Whatever you put it's just an average based on your height/weight not your actual effort. Invest in a heart rate monitor.

There are a few small independent thrift stores in my area that have high-end designer clothes, I'm so cheap, I wait for them to have sales (50% or more) and then go stock up. I started shopping at thrift stores during my losing phase, but still shop there cuz you can't beat the prices. I work in an office that requires…

Thanks ladies for the feedback. I'm not following the SL program, so much as I'm using it as a guide to see if I want to do powerlifting and/or strongman. I have to start somewhere. This new gym is full of "lunkheads", so I'm sure I'll get plenty of guidance.

Couldn't agree more. I read New Rules and watched a lot of YouTube videos, but I got more out of just one session with a trainer.

It depends on how much you are willing to spend and what your goals are. I love working out at home, after 3 years I've learned to drown out distractions, I get to listen to my music as loud as I want and when I'm done...I'm already home. Though you may have to deal with boredom, so check out other workout routines, like…

Like others have said, find something you enjoy. Many years ago I was a runner, I would make an upbeat playlist to listen to (this was long before ipods), helped me get through long runs. Make yourself a few playlists to listen to. Now I do more hiit stuff, so I have a variety and I started lifting which I consider to be…

I've been lifting for about a year from home, I just joined a powerlifting gym so that I can go heavier, since I am limited at home by equipment and safety. This gym also does strongman training and competitions. Actually looking forward to that.

This is what I've been doing. Scoobyworkshop does actually have a setting for Lose Fat/Build Muscle on their calorie calculator, but their macros did not work for me, high carbs, low fat, so for the past few months I've been doing the opposite, low carbs, high fat and after a year of no progress, I'm finally seeing some…

I punch them in the neck...oh wait, that's just what I want to do. Mostly, I just smile and nod and keep doing what I'm doing.

I wear one, I have loose belly skin and it keeps it from jiggling while I workout and forces me to keep my core tight. Does it melt fat? I doubt it, otherwise I wouldn't need to wear it anymore.

When I started this 3 years ago, I was also frustrated with my slow weight loss. If i was lucky I would lose maybe 5lbs a month, sometimes 2lbs, sometimes 8lbs, but I kept at it, there was a lot of crying and yelling, but I never gave up and I'm glad I did, it took 18 months, but I lost 100lbs and so far kept it off.…

YouTube is a good source, but stay away from GymRa, they are awful, mostly an excuse to show women in skimpy workout clothes. My favorite is Power Yoga by Bryan Kest, its over 20 years old, maybe older since my first version of this was on VHS. 3 different programs. His instructions are great, I can do the program without…

I thought this article had a whiff of The Onion about it, thanks for the clarification. BTW VegasFit, I love DLB, I watch her Youtube videos for inspiration and motivation.

I would, but I'm a Republican and I'm a Democrat...how would I raise the dog?

This is hilarious, I'm 5'4" and around 165lbs and wear a size 8, which according to the fashion industry also makes me plus size, though I'm not a model, so not sure what that makes me. Another reason why the scale doesn't matter.

I tried it many years ago when there was this british guy touting it as the end all be all of weight loss. You can eat whatever you want, but only when you're hungry and stop when you're full. Didn't work. Now that I'm smaller from counting calories and have learned how to eat better, I have no problem with intuitive…

Well, its not the cover, just an ad in the SI magazine. I thought it looked ok, I hate that she has a flatter stomach than me and I'm a size 8. Oh and for the pervs: https://yahoo.com/style/plus-size-model-ashley-grahams-ad-will-appear-in-110078052408.html

I lost over 100lbs without taking one fake weight loss supplement. When anyone asks how I did it, I always say "hard work and determination". Mainly because they don't want to hear, "ate less, moved more"

Not sure if that article is real or not or if its just another person needing a lame excuse not to work out. I lift, don't look anything like Starla...who by the way...looks like a dude.

I've been working out at home for 3 years, mostly dvds, online workouts and weights, though now I've been thinking about doing strongman training, so I either need to find a giant tire for the backyard or I need to join a gym. Fortunately, there's a strongman/powerlifting gym near my house. I'll be checking them out this…

This is what I do. Remember, you'll have to put it in manually.

People who loiter in the left lane for no reason. Its the PASSING LANE you a-hole, get the the f*** out of my way!!!

Truth to power! I wish I could give this to every person I know who complains about needing to lose weight, but don't want to do what it takes to do it. Somehow I think they will take it the wrong way.

I do a 20-25 minute HIIT workout before I lift. Its a nice warm-up and energizes me before I lift.
-
I'll admit my training session was free, but you really only need one session. Go "gym shopping", most will offer it as an incentive, that's how I got my free session. Didn't even join the gym.

If you're serious about lifting, please find a trainer to work with you on your form. Hopefully someone who also lifts. I had been lifting on my own for awhile watching youtube videos, got a session with a trainer and was able to get a lot of out it and noticed a big difference in my form.

I lift at home. As much as I hate Walmart, their website does have really good prices on workout equipment, I got a weight bench w/rack for bench press and leg extension and a 100lb barbell set for around $100 (see profile pic), definitely less than P90X. The Body Beast program, which I think you can get for around $40…
