Reading your frustrations made me feel much better. I was thinking today about how it's in the nature of swimming that we all have to share what is often a relatively small space, unlike jogging or cycling or even the ocean, which you can explore to find the quiet places. I suppose that sharing often leads to these little…

Lol, oh dear. Is it worth pointing out that in our swimming lockers, they are locked manually by a key that you fasten around your wrist? It's not possible to lock the key inside the locker. Maybe consider a lock that you have to turn with the key to lock, so that you can't lock your keys inside it?

Yep! 60 lengths in 51 minutes. Always feel better when I've swum. (Is it swum, or swam?)

Yes, I keep seeing sesame and peanut sauce recipes for shitaki noodles, I want to give it a try. Got a link or a good recipe to share?

Great! So after you've had your zero calorie noodles, you can go get yourself a nice big bowl of brown basmati rice as well and then everyone's happy. It's not either / or. You can save calories in one area and 'spend' them in another area without it having to be pro or anti carbs. I, personally, don't consider brown rice…

I like courgetti (I guess that is similar to what you call zoodles) in place of spaghetti, but I found that it doesn't really soak up the sauce as well as I'd like. I do slice it into a stir fry but I might try the 'zoodles' as you call them instead and see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion!

Nom, this sounds really nice, I might try that sauce with some of the penne shitaki. Glad you found it interesting, I was pleasantly surprised by it too :-)

It's not a low carb thread for me! It's a 'how to have your carbs and eat them' thread for me. People who don't like carbs are not really going to be interested in a low calorie 'carb', imo.

I didn't say that carbs had 'no' nutritional value. I said that "most carbs don't give you a whole lot of nutrition anyway". I'm well aware that there are some fab 'carbs' out there that really buck this trend. I personally love unsweetened, unsalted museli for the bran and oats. But, in reality, the sort of carbs that…

Actually, on exercise days, I'm on 2470 calories. On non-exercise days it really depends how sedentary I am. But I still wouldn't waste 250 calories on something that gives me very little nutrition, and very little taste, when I can have chicken or vegetables or tasty sauces with garlic and chillies and tomatoes, and get…

Lol, where did 'afford' come into it? I'm not buying these because they're cheaper :-P Do you mean afford as in, afford the calories? I like to save my calories for lean protein (usually chicken) and vegetables of any kind. I also like semi-skimmed milk and nuts and I have a little bit of fruit - not mad amounts. I don't…

Yeah, I have read that some people think they taste fishy, and I was preparing myself to not like them (I usually hate diet foods) but.... nothing. They were fine. Perhaps it depends on your palate, or what you serve them with?

250 calories may not be a big part of your daily intake. I'm 4'11, 250 calories is a big deal to me!

I, personally, didn't notice any difference in taste at all but from reading reviews online, other people say they have a slightly different taste. My husband said he thought the texture was different but I did not notice any difference in texture. I always have noodles with spicy dishes, I don't eat them on their own. If…

Ah, I wasn't aware that carbs had 4 calories per gram. Is that a standard formula or something? I learn something new every day! Yeah, also pretty calorific, unfortunately. A 70g (dry weight) serving of brown rice has over 250 calories. And considering what nutrients you can get from it (Manganese and Selenium) are also…

It's 4 calories per 200g, not 4 calories per gram.

Well, most carbs don't give you a whole lot of nutrition anyway - pasta and rice are not particularly nutritious as far as I know - the main nutrition part is often the meat or vegetable addition (protein, vitamins etc). for me, having a zero calorie carb still let me have that traditional dish without all the calories it…

Ooh, is it good? I saw the rice version, but I thought it might be like the time I tried to make courgette rice all over again...

I am in the UK lol, I found them here. Holland and Barrett sell them.

Good job! Well done :-)

I know what he means - men's bodies are generally more firm to the touch than women's, even when fat. It's actually not the fat though, it's the skin holding the fat. It's the same reason that women get cellulite and men don't. It's partly estrogen, partly to do with collagen and partly to do with how the skin, fat and…

A few years ago I lost 7 stone. Even so much lighter, I would have told you how awful my body was - my saggy belly, wrinkled thighs, stretch marks, etc. **But other people did not see these imperfections the same way.** They would recommend these short little skirts and tops, and I would feel hopeless, like, can't they see…

I blend garlic, ginger and chillies with soy sauce. It's nom! I use 4 chillies for a nice warmth but add more or less depending on how spicy you like it.

I love my hybrid bike because I feel I can go anywhere on it. My ex got a road bike but as soon as we'd try to cycle on a dirt path or at the side of the canal, he'd be in agony from his arms hurting from the vibration. I am comfortable in the hybrid position and I use it for on and off road. I commute to and from work…

This research is a little biased, I think. It only studies *gym usage* not total exercise. Obviously, there is a whole world of exercise outside of expensive gyms, which many may find cliquey, middle class or intimidating. In order to be an accurate analysis, this would have to include jogging, cycling, walking, using…

Lol this is like asking 'why don't I have any money? Is it because I spend too much, or I don't earn enough?' It's very simple - you spend more than you earn, you lose money. Doesn't matter if you earn a million and spend a million and one pound, or whether you earn 10 pounds and spend 11. Same with dieting. You have to…

I live in London. I pay £33 a month for my gym. That includes use of the swimming pool, weights, typical cardio equipment and all the classes.

My first mile is always my slowest. I find draggy, slow, heavy, can't be bothered. Then, around my second mile, suddenly I'm into it, the running feels natural, I have energy, I go faster, I enjoy it more, etc. My point is, don't judge too much by your first mile, lots of people get more into it as they go.

This. Cook for them a couple of times a week. Share your recipes, let them know how many calories are in it, why it's good for them. Your step-mother may start volunteering the information about her recipes without you even having to ask.

I swam today :-) Missed it yesterday due to pulling a muscle in my thigh so was really glad to get back into the pool today. Oh water, how I love thee! Did 60 minutes, 1500m. Would have liked to be faster but am happy that I just got out at all.
