  • Seems the Superbowl got the best of many of us. I too went well over my calorie goal--too many tempting foods at the party, and hard to sit by and watch everyone else enjoy. Hot wings are my weakness! I ended up over 800 calories over my goal, even with eating lighter earlier in the day to prepare for it. But, as many have…
  • I'll third that. You're eating less than 1200 calories a day. 1200 should be a minimum! Eating enough is as important as not eating too much. (I've been saying that phrase a lot lately, think I'm going to have to trademark it.)
  • Different strokes for different folks I guess. I eat my calories and it is working quite well for me. I only added exercise last month, and my weight loss rate is the same now as it was before.
  • You got it. 1300 is your NET goal.
  • Yep, essentially. But not below so much as AT (or very close to) your goal. Eating enough is as important as not overeating. When you work out, you burn more calories, so your body needs more fuel than usual.
  • I use them daily. Water just doesn't cut it for breakfast, so the Crystal Light Classic Orange Sunrise is a great replacement to orange juice. I also love green tea, so I use the Arizona and Lipton green tea packets as well.
  • Mark Haub, a professor of human nutrition at Kansas State University, ate 70% junk food for 10 weeks, and was able to lose 27 lbs by counting calories. Here's some excerpts from the article: "His premise: That in weight loss, pure calorie counting is what matters most -- not the nutritional value of the food." "The premise…
  • Logans Roadhouse has an under 500 calorie menu, as does McAlisters Deli. Moe's Southwest Grill and Qudoba offer Mexican fair and their websites allow you to build your meal online to exactly how much adding this or subtracting that affects the nutritional values. Subway probably goes without saying...
  • Wow, and all this time I've only put it on crackers. So many awesome ideas I need to try. Thanks everyone!
  • Awesome! You do not need to add, just subtract, and you will continue to lose the weight!
  • I'm the IT Manager at a private Catholic high school, though I'm not Catholic myself. (Somehow, they forgive me.)
  • I do not know about harmful, but I am completely exhausted afterward if I do not eat something ahead of time. I usually have some kind of energy bar before, and some kind of protein afterward. I love the Snickers Marathon bars before a workout.
  • It would be if you were not already cutting back your calories creating a deficit. Your body NEEDS food, and when you work out, you increase that need. You're still at a deficit. If you are sticking to your goal, you will lose weight with or without the exercise. However, getting into shape helps with the metabolism and…
  • Looking great! Keep it up!
  • That is the difference between your calories burned from normal daily activity and the calories consumed goal. There is no "need to burn each day" number. If you work out, you eat more as you will already be at a deficit by following the calorie goals.
  • I'm using RunKeeperPRO (Android and Iphone) for keeping track of stats. I'm using podcast from RunningIntoShape.com for the Couch to 5K program.
  • Congrats, loveme445. That's awesome! Due to a crazy schedule last week, I didn't make it to the gym as well as missing the 3rd day of Week 4. When I went to the gym yesterday, I was really worried that I had suffered a major setback, and was prepared to go back to Week 3. However, I decided give it a shot and continue back…
  • I could see using them for smaller meals rather than meal replacements. I usually eat 5 times a day, with two of those being around 200 calorie snacks. Often, it is some form of bar, such as Balance Bar, PowerBar, KIND, or ZonePerfect. However, Slim-Fast seems to be near the same calorie content, so I could just as likely…
  • Wow! Thanks so much everyone for the words of encouragement. I can only thank those that have gone before me and have provided my motivation. I love the supportive community here, and look forward to continued success!
  • The seemingly simplest things are the hardest to overcome, but ones that ball starts rolling, look out! Congrats!
  • "...and i was under my calorie goal every single day." How much under; are you eating enough? Not eating enough will prevent your body from shedding pounds. If you are following the MFP daily goal, it is already a deficit and when you work out, you increase that deficit. However, too much of a deficit is…
  • I weight meat, but if something is packaged, I typically go by what the package says.
  • Didn't noticed until this post, then I looked up and low and behold, there it is. I pretty much tune out most advertising so it has not got to me before.
  • I started in Nov, with just diet change alone. Added exercise later, but have been eating my calories as recommended, and I am still losing at the same rate as before.
  • Are you weighing yourself at the same time and under the same conditions each time? Your weight can fluctuate throughout the day, so if you are not consistent, your results will not be either.
  • Focus on the calories you're eating, but forget the scale. Your weight can naturally fluctuate from day to day so you are beating yourself up over nothing if you are checking it every day (or several times a day as it sounds). Once a week will let you know if you are progressing. You need patience, for it is a long slow…
  • Another method I found: Wrap your thumb and major fingers around your smallest part of your wrist. Small Frame -- the fingers overlap Medium Frame -- the fingers barely touch Large Frame -- the fingers don't touch
  • MFP rolls over at midnight, so that's what use. Anything after midnight I enter for the following day.
  • I'm going to offer a different opinion. MFP gives you a calorie deficit already. When you burn more calories, you are at a greater deficit. MFP gives you a safe calorie level, and cutting back any more is not healthy. Food is fuel and important. The trick is to eat less than you need, while making your body think there is…
  • Yup, I know exactly what you mean. Really, until you start looking up your foods, you never have any idea how much you are actually eating. I used to wonder how I got overweight, but now it seems kind of obvious. I had dinner out tonight and used the MFP android app to see what I could eat. Saw one of the appetizers was…
