  • Hi Lynn I have been here a few months now myself and in OA for nearly a year now ( hooray!). Initially my plan of eating was to have 3 meals a day, nothing in between ( 3-0-1 plan) and I still stick to that but I have found it helpful to be able to have this site to count calories which enables me to be accurate about how…
  • Hi everyone I am just joining in on this thread having been away on vacation for 2 weeks and then another couple of days away from home with work. It's been a real learning curve to me and ODAT became especially important. Whilst I was away my mind told me that a bowl of sugar-free ice cream would be fine for me to eat. My…

  • 1 That the leak in my bathroom is making the ceiling fall down, the electrics need sorting and redecorating AND that although I freaked out and cried and lost the plot a bit - I have made amends straight away to the person I took it out on, and I can realise that a little tiny leak dripping away bit by bit can cause a…
  • I can identify with that feeling of busyness/ over busy ness at the moment and also with the knowledge that 'this too will pass'. I realised this week that my disease was getting in my head and that makes me start to obsees re food/diethead thinking etc. I went to an extra meeting. Its quite a way for me to go and meant a…

  • Hi there everyone who has a problem with food is welcome at an OA meeting. If you go to a meeting you will see people of all shapes and sizes :) I have found a welcoming and understanding atmosphere and people who 'get it'. If you take a look at the OA website it gives you a great intro to what OA is about and I love the…
  • Thank you for the reply and the support, it means a lot. I went to my OA meeting tonight and it was very helpful to just be there and talk and hear about recovery and be assured that this will pass. Just to be abstinent and not to have to eat over these feelings is a miracle and I think you are so right there is something…
  • Hi Lucy, great to see you here too :) I use MFP to track my food and keep abstinent. Its very nice to know there are other OA people here too, it's good for my sanity!
  • Hi Karina, I'm glad you found us too  I am also in the UK and very grateful for my meeting. Now I have sttled in to the MFP thing I do find it helpful to use as a food journal like you say, I just plan my food on here and hand it over to my HP. It has helped me learn about portion sizes and keeps me on track that…
  • It sounds like you have done great so far! I have had to realise that it is addictive and that I can't just have one ( bite/drink). I am sticking with decaf and losing the diet coke has transformed by water consumption. Its the substance I keep arguing about so Im just praying that this time it stays on my abstinent from…

  • I have used whey protein form myprotein too, I like it, its good value and mixes well with anything. I tend to buy it without any flavour as I dont like sweeteners and then just add a banana or berries and milk and mix. Its plenty sweet enough that way, q. like the vanilla one too
  • At my heaviest I weighed 315lbs and I knew I was going to die if I carried on the way I was going. 12 months on and I am 102lbs lighter thank God. One day at a time.
  • Congratulations on the bra and baby Ruby! :flowerforyou:
  • Coming back is the key! And someone said to me that on an OA watch the only time would be "Now"! :flowerforyou:
  • Funny I watched this on catch up today too! Found it very moving when Si talked about his experiences and thought it showed the comfort eating sort of weight gain and the habit eating really well in both their stories. Loved the look of the lasagne, couldn;t believe how the pasta was leeks must try it and get the book I…

  • This is a great thread. I do have a fear of being hungry because I know that my stop-start mechanism is broken or faulty because of my disease of compulsive overeating. I am honestly not very familiar with the feeling and have never in my life until OA eaten in a way that might allow me to feel hunger at all other than by…
  • I was listening to an OA podcast yesterday and I heard "Forgiveness isn't a feeling, it's a choice". Made me see it in a different way
  • As I have worked the 12 steps in OA my feelings have come up as I have put down the food. This programme gives me the tools to understand those feelings and feel them without having to use food to stuff them down or manage them like I have my whole life. I find myself having a feeling and thinking I Have to do something…

  • Well there is no such thing as co-incidence is there! This made me smile because I've been trying to do some de-cluttering today and listening to OA cd's and OA podcasts kept me going. I have just downloaded some from the OA LA intergroup onto my ipod I love having those inspirational voices talking to me and am going to…
  • Hi there, I went to my first OA meeting on October 2011 and I am so grateful that I did. Even if it seems weird I knew I had found a 'home' when I heard people share their stories because they were telling mine as well. We don't give feedback or comment or discuss other people's 'shares' so everyone is free to talk without…
