Thanks, everyone. I'm doing the 30 Day Shred and I've started weightlifting (not heavy yet, still getting the research done) about two or three times a week. I didn't take my measurements before I started the 30DS, and I wish I did. I know I've gained lots of muscle and lost inches, and I try to keep that in mind, too.…

You are DEFINITELY not alone. For the last two months my weight has barely moved and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. 90% of the time I eat very well. I exercise 6 days of the week, both strength and cardio. And yet I'm not losing weight anymore. I also thought I would be under 200 by now, but I keep bouncing back and…

Sound advice. Nobody likes it when other people make comments about what we eat. Did you really think that was going to end any other way, like with her saying, "Thank you for embarrassing me"?
-
Nothing mini about that! I started at the same place as you, 22/24 jeans and 253 pounds. Can't wait to lose another 20 and get to where you are now! Congrats!

This American Life got me started when I began walking! Thanks for the post.

I remember being pretty miserable the first week, but it does get better. Don't give up.

Get up before everyone else to do your workout. That's what I do and it really starts my day out on the right note, feeling good about myself and less stressed. And don't try to tailor everyone's meals. If they don't eat what you make, they don't eat. If your boyfriend makes something fattening for breakfast, you don't…

Thanks for this post! I've just begun strength training and it was really good to see the facts laid out in that way.

I started out walking for about two months. I could barely do a mile when I started and was up to about 4 miles a day, then I started doing the 30 Day Shred about 40 days ago. I'm taking longer than 30 days to get stronger and IT'S WORKING! I have muscles where I've never had them and I've lost a lot of inches. Can't wait…

Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing. I always thought that the whole idea behind losing weight was that you were burning more calories than you needed for your total daily energy expenditure. If you're eating them back, how do you keep losing?

In those moments when I'm feeling really unmotivated, I realize that's the moment when it's most important to get off my butt. I've made a rule for myself that, whenever I find myself trying to justify not working out, I need to just stop dead in my tracks and do it anyway.
-
My motivation is that I have a long way to go, but I've also come pretty far, so turning back is NOT an option. I get up early so I have plenty of time to get in my exercise before work. NO EXCUSES. I feel stronger and more energized and a lot more confident. All of those things are great motivators.

I guess I should have clarified. I started exercising in August, but it was mostly cardio, lots of walking and stationary biking. The 30-Day Shred is something I started so I could get stronger, as well. So I might be retaining water from that, I guess, but I was already exercising. Does anyone think this is just the…

Also, if you haven't seen this, you really should. I'm sure you'll relate, seeing as how you both used to jump out of planes! :) http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151007386498082

Absolutely! I agree 100%. Losing weight is 90% mental/emotional, I think.
-
That is AWESOME. We don't know what we're really capable of until we throw ourselves out there and just do it! Good for you.
-
That's absolutely how I felt. I've been working really hard doing a lot of cardio at the gym, but I was ignoring the strength training, which is why I started the 30DS. I'm happy to hear that someone else experienced that little bit of demoralization. I'm not going to give up, though! Thanks to everyone for the supportive…

That's excellent! I can't do the unmodified yet, either. I'm looking forward to getting strong enough to do that.

I'd say you're already doing it and now you have to let her come to that decision on her own. You've told her she should exercise and you've offered her assistance in many ways. Now it's her turn. If she doesn't get there on her own, she probably won't stick to it anyway. You're a very good friend, though.
-
That is just awesome! Congratulations! Like you, I've set myself a goal of 100 lbs in a year. And like you, I'm reevaluating that goal and just taking it one day at a time. You're an inspiration!

I appreciate your heads-up on this. I actually saw a lot of people saying they gained weight in muscle, which I am expecting, but you could totally see the difference in their bodies when the provided pictures.

Great news! Thanks! I'm pretty pumped now. :)
-
I like this list better.

I also find going in the morning really helpful. I know myself too well to fool myself into believing I'm going to get it done after a full day of work. But another great thing is the energized, proud feeling you get when you've finished your workout early. It starts the rest of the day off on the right note, even if I…

You are very brave for not letting your troubles get in your way. I read your profile, and you have certainly been through the mill. But the fact that you're not letting it stand in your way is admirable, as so many people want to find excuses not to get healthy. Just imagine how proud of yourself you're going to be when…

I think that if they haven't taken the time to comment or post at all, they're probably not going to be that affected by knowing why you're deleting them. The email would probably be more for your sake than theirs.

That's a great victory! Think of that every time you start to forget how far you've come!
-
I think you're very smart for realizing that success can be just as scary (if not more so) than failure, because a lot of people never figure that out and it holds them back. I think if you acknowledge the way you're feeling and then don't let it beat you, you'll be a much stronger person for it. And, no, you're definitely…

Yep, I'm one of those. I've been working on it since mid-August and I'm down 23 lbs. Feel free to add me if you'd like!

It sounds like she does need motivation, but I don't know if it's a good idea to say something like that to someone you're living with. She really needs to come to that state of mind on her own. I know personally I was never 100% committed to losing weight until I finally reached that point mentally where I said enough is…
