If I ate some of the things posted here as "snacks", my weight loss would crash. I cannot eat the nuts, as they salt makes me bloat.... In fact, I have eliminated almost all sodium. Lucky to those of you who can indulge in anything salt-related.

I exercise late afternoon/evening, so my metabolism is in high gear around bed time, regardless of my protein & veggie filled dinner. I always have a yummy protein shake before bed (1/2 portion), or else I cannot sleep well. My protein shakes are #1 source of get-me-through-no-meal times of day. In my case, I blend high…

My son-in-law has this disease since he was 24 (now 32). One of the big issues for people with this problem is inability to absorb B12 through food, which also leads to loss of appetite. He gives himself a daily B12 injection (does not require an Rx), and it has helped him in every way~! Google B12 injections and this…

My favorite "fix" is my special protein shake (half portion), which is vanilla flavored protein powder (Intek "Evolution"), with 2 tbsp. of PB2 (powdered peanut butter and only 45 calories for 2 tbsp) with unsweetened vanilla almond milk. I combine these ingredients with a few cubes of ice in my blender, and it tastes like…

I am super particular about my protein powder, even though I am strapped for money. I use a high-grade powder that does not upset my stomach. I tried most every kind out there before finally landing with Intek "Evolution". I spend about $40/month for 2 shakes a day (in my blender). I sacrifice other things in order to have…

I get motivation through my fitness-buddies! Without my one major fitness pal / workout buddy, I would not be so motivated. Also, having a trainer has helped me a lot. When I spend money and have a specific time, it holds me accountable. Use whatever tools you can to be motivated, but my main motivator is having a "pal" to…

I know what you mean! I have lost 14 pounds and 11 inches; yet I personally do not see the changes. My lower abs are still the problem area....right where the button on my pants are located. How is it possible to lose 14 lbs, and inches everywhere except what defines my pant size? Very frustrating for sure! Every one is…

I agree with the others....we all start somewhere, and sometimes we feel like staying in bed all day. Once you get "hooked" here, you will find lots of support and encouragement. This is new to me as well, though I have been doing my weight loss journey on my own for months now....I find this web site a great support!!…

I agree..."don't pay attention to naysayers". Great advice. I have found my own family to be the most critical judges in my goals, while my friends at the gym keep cheering me on and giving me kuddos for progress. Sometimes, family is not the best support system...sadly. That is why we are HERE for each other! You are not…

I am not an expert, so this is just my own opinion and what I have read & heard from experts.....High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is supposed to be the most effective, rather than constant rate. You can find plenty of info via Google and on YouTube. I used to be a distance runner, and ran about 40 miles a week, but…

Yippie  ....several of you have confirmed I am in the right group, and after reading so many of the posts in this group, I am very excited to find my own "peeps"....all over the world! Very excited now that I have found a "community" online to share the up-down battles with weight. I just started MFP this week, but…

Have you tried BodyRockTV's web site? Not sure if that is the one you are looking for, but they have great stuff. I use YouTube to find a lot of exercise routines....just type in what I am interested in working on to the Youtube search bar. I find Youtube to be the best source of awesome workout ideas, nutrition, etc.

I feel really stupid right now! Is this a group for women over 50? I just joined MFP, so forgive my ignorance. I am looking for people in my own category ......duh, over 50 women. Am I in the right place? Haha

I also have a tough time with breakfast. For some reason, I cannot stand to eat food when I first wake up; yet, it is so important to getting our metabolism going. I have a couple of things I do to deal with my personal lack of appetite for breakfast....#1) a boiled egg, or #2) one egg-over-easy with one piece of 100%…

Hi Stephanie - Good for you on your weight loss goals. I noticed you mentioned reaching for the junk food but still staying under your total calorie goal for the day.....ooops, you know that the "quality" of the calorie matters a lot, right? You asked for input on tips that work.....for me, all of my calories are…

You do not need to apologize for gastic bypass surgery, regardless of your age....at least that is my opinion. Yes, healthy food is more expensive than junk food, but you know that it is not that hard to eat very healthy on a small budget. I am also on a tight budget, and manage to make fantastic (homemade) turkey burgers,…

We all hit a "wall" in weight loss...it is part of the process. You have done so great to lose 50 pounds! I am not an expert, but it does sound like you are possibly working out too much....you said "2 hrs. a day"...is that every day? Our bodies need recovery time. My trainer has been encouraging me to take 2 days a week…

I also tried Atkins, but found it did not work as well for me (a woman) as it does for men. I am nearly carb-free, though....no breads (a gluten-free diet). I eat small portions of sweet potato to keep my energy level up (no more than 6oz. per day). Going totally carb-free is really tricky, and did not work for my body,…

The dreaded "plateau" is the reason I joined this site just yesterday! Ugh....I have been busting my butt for 4 months now, and shed 10 pounds @ about 1 lb a week for the first weeks....then, the dreaded plateau hit me for 5 weeks straight. I was sooooo frustrated, as my diet was so clean (no cheating), and intense…

You look 8 months pregnant at the age of 57....everyone does a double-take look and shakes their head in disbelief.
-
Agreed! I just joined this site, so I am looking for the positive stuff. On the other hand, a sense of humor is hugely important in the weight loss journey. I laugh at myself all the time, which makes this effort more fun.

A female and male can never be equal in a weight-loss quest. As women, we have a totally different physiology. My advice is to not compare your numbers to your husband. By doing that, you are setting yourself up for disappointment since a male body reacts faster than a female to weight loss endeavors. Also, it is important…

I hear two different arguments among the "experts".....some say nothing less than 1,400 calories, and others are insisting on no more than 1,200! I exercise really hard 5 days a week.....burn about 500-600 calories each time (in two-hour routines). I cannot imagine having the needed energy on just 1,200 calories!
-
Thanks so much for the response! My very fear is that going down to 1,200 will cause my body to think it is "starving" and it will undo all my hard work. The last time I reduced my caloric intake, my body went into starvation mode. I feel a lot of pressure to reduce calories, but also know my own body very well. I do not…
