Hmm, joined the navy cadets - so had to grow one or shave moustache off! Never looked back. Does make you look older . . so grow one . . . then shave it off to lose 10 years!?

I'm back on the 5:2 diet - it's been the only one that seems to work. Also using a Fitbit Zip to measure steps - working great so far! Need friends to keep me going!

Hi Also from Bristol (well, Blagdonia) - back after 6 months. Got myself a fitbit zip - hope this helps but also need any encouragement! Maybe team up for a walk on the Mendips?? Steve

I recently bought the FitBit zip as I thought this was the most cost-effective. And it is! Nice gadget - very very small! I can still enter activities here on MFP but the zip logs all my steps, I don't have to worry about how long was I walking the dog etc And it al syncs together . . nice

I think most people can make their own minds up Chris. And although the 5:2 regime is a type of IF it does deserve its own group. Dr Mosely's programme/book were well received and the science well tested.

I think fbmandy is missing the point - you only reduce your cals to a quarter on 2 non-consecutive days - normal for the rest of the week, which is the real motivator. Only having 600 cals for a day is not unhealthy and it is sustainable for 2 non-conec. days a week. In fact it is natural! We feast on the big kill then…

Hello Yes, on the fast diet too. Michael Mosely's programme certainly explained the benefits. I guess I'm doing this principally for the health benefits - want to lower my blood pressure, lower risks of diabetes etc And lose weight in the process. I'm a scientist and I'm afraid despite all the 100's of diets and regimes,…

Started this fast diet last week - going well - MFP really helps to monitor the calories. I do keep a check on the non-fast days - it's all motivational.

Yes, quite a fashion was started by Michael Mosely when he did the programme on Fast Diet last Summer. Started it last week - we'll see how it goes. MFP really helps to do this kind of diet too!

Yep 55 and a few pounds overweight. High BP too so now on meds but Doc said, lose weight! So trying the Fast Diet (or 5-2 diet) - seems to be working and is great as on the 5 days I can do what I like. But strangely you don't seem to want to go mad, which is nice.

(above posting was for UK audiences! the programme was on BBC2 Only programme I could find was his one on exercise: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mgxf and then a website with a few clips from the original programme: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01lxyzc/clips NOt sure if these are viewable from outside the UK)

Big article in this week's Radio Times - from the original one by Dr Michael Mosely - he's even published a book (The Fast Diet) but if you saw the Horizon doc then you prob don't need the book. There's a few clips on BBC iPlayer but no chance of seeing the original film which was quite a breakthrough and even though it…

I'm trying the 5-2 regime, where you restrict your calories to 1/4 (say 600) for 2 non-consecutive days . . . feels like fasting! But apparently according to the boffins this works just as well as IF. We're doing this for the health benefits mainly but hope to lose weight in the process. We'll see!
