  • Where do you live that you can get food delivery for £1? When I looked into it a few years ago it was closer to £10. And then when you do order you have to book a 4-hour window for delivery, and there's not often great selection, which makes it much harder for people with inconsistent work schedules.
  • I look at it on a wider scale, too, and I estimate moreso than calculating exactly (there are some grey areas, too, like a salad from a gastropub). So, for instance, a little bit of dark chocolate or whisky in the evening fits in, as does going out for dinner with my husband on a Friday night. Eating chocolate and crisps…

  • Some restaurants have their calorie counts listed online and/or on the menu itself. In Ontario, for instance, all chains with more than a certain number of locations have to make their calorie info available on the menu.

  • What are your macros like? Maybe try upping your fat a bit, or increasing protein. Usually I find when I'm hungry right after a meal it's because the meal wasn't well-balanced in terms of fat/protein/carbs, or I'm otherwise low on one of them. As you're breastfeeding, though, your problem might be a simpler one of simply…
  • Sweet! That gives me way more flexibility at the weekend, as my weeknight lifting sessions are pretty much set in stone (I only have access to barbells at my karate dojo, so I lift twice a week after class and then use the dumbbells/kettlebells in my apartment gym at the weekend).
  • I'm old school; I use a paper notebook. I tend to get impatient with apps if there's not enough space for recording notes or for making modifications. If I forget the notebook then I just make notes in my phone and record them when I get home.
  • Yeah, a cold could explain why you're feeling as sore as you are, too, as sometimes colds cause muscle aches. When I went back to karate after five years off, I woke up with a cold the next morning and was so sore I could barely climb the stairs! I'm often sore after working out, but that was particularly bad (especially…
  • This reminds me of the sugar tax they added for soft drinks. It's an attempt to fix the problem without, you know, actually educating people to make healthier choices. I'm not even sure how it'd work if, say, they applied it to all packaged foods. Would they suddenly start selling nuts in 80g packages instead of 100g? I…
  • Being super-careful to eat healthy food all week only to go and order waaaaayyy too much pizza at the weekend, respond to it by tightening up my food intake only to lose control when someone brings chocolate into the office? BTDT. I don't have any severe binge-eating issues (like Binge Eating Disorder or anything like…
  • 2 full sleep cycles instead of 48 hours? Awesome! I lift late on Thursday evenings (9-10pm); I'd much rather do my weekend session on a Saturday afternoon than wait till Sunday
  • 7 st 12?! I'd say that's about the LOWEST healthy weight for someone that height; I'm the same height and I haven't been below 8st since I was 16. I'm currently recomping (eating at maintenance and lifting weights to lose fat/build muscle) at around 10st because at the moment my main consideration is increasing strength,…
  • Do you eat dinner early and have no snacks afterward? It might sound weird, but if I don't eat enough the evening before I will be constantly hungry all morning. It took me years to figure this out; I couldn't understand why breakfasts that left me feeling full wouldn't tide me over past 9:30. Now that I eat a bedtime…
  • Honestly, I think these challenges with huge numbers of squats every day are a waste of time. No, they're not going to burn your muscles away or anything like that, but why do 200 squats a day when you can add some weight and do less than 100 per week?
  • Hi there! I discovered EM2WL recently and as soon as I started reading the site it felt like everything was clicking into place. I'm a 28yo woman, 5'4"-5'5", and around 140lb, and I was eating something like 1600-1800 calories a day. While doing 2+ hours of karate a week and lifting 3x/week. I was CONSTANTLY hungry, but…
  • How heavy are the dumbbells you have access to? The weight distribution using dumbbells is different from a barbell (or, I imagine, a Smith machine), so you may be surprised by how little weight you actually need in comparison. For instance, I can conventional deadlift 135lb with a barbell for 5 reps. Heaviest pair of…
  • My bad. My understanding was that 'vegan diet' was the no-animal-product equivalent of the term 'vegetarian diet'. At any rate, I agree with you on the use of the term plant-based to distinguish between people who avoid all animal products and by-products for ethical reasons and those who choose to eat primarily/entirely…
  • Huh, that's interesting. You must shop at different stores than I do :P Last time I bought any clothes it was US 6 shorts from the Gap, but I know there's no way I'm fitting into any of my old UK 8 clothes. On that chart I'm between 10 and 12, which sounds more accurate (though I haven't bought anything in the UK in about…
  • I'm not picking on you here (I know this is what a Google search turns up - perhaps it was the case decades ago?), but I am constantly baffled by the persistent myth that US sizes are one size down from UK. They're not. To give you a bit of perspective, most UK stores don't stock below a 6, at the lowest. The size guide…
  • That's not actually true. Yes, many vegans avoid ALL animal products, both dietary and otherwise, but a vegan diet is a diet that avoids all animal products. This includes meat and fish, but also other products that necessitate the killing of the animal, like gelatine, cochineal and rennet, as well as products that come…
  • Read up on nutrients commonly consumed via animal products, and figure out how to incorporate them into your diet. Calcium, protein, iron etc. can be found in plant sources (although personally as a pescetarian I struggle to get enough protein for my fitness goals from plant sources alone), but if you're not eating any…
  • I'm 5'5". When I was 8.5st I was about a UK 8-10, but I have a curvy hourglass figure so I sometimes needed to size up for my bust (which is a 30FF no matter what I weigh).
  • True. I was oversimplifying it, but the point stands: strength training in a deficit helps preserve muscle mass and, therefore, ensures that more of the weight lost comes from fat (which is what the average person is talking about when they talk about weight loss).
  • Yes, losing weight can be difficult, but it's more difficult without strength training. Or, rather, losing *fat* is more difficult without strength training. If you're not using your muscles to lift things, your body is going to use them up for energy, meaning that, sure, you might be losing 1lb a week, but where that…
  • If you're frequently finding yourself craving refined carbohydrates, look at your deficit. I crave those things when I'm eating at too low a deficit (I track intermittently, and a few weeks ago realised I was only eating around 1300-1450 calories a day, even though my BMR is around 1400 and exercise regularly). It's…

  • Agreed. For me it's all three macros. I'm playing around with a 40/30/30 ratio right now and it seems to be working pretty well. I don't sweat it too much, but I make sure to include all three macros in my meals and at least two in any snacks. Fibre, on the other hand? Doesn't do anything for me.
  • When you say vegetarian I'm going to assume lacto ovo. Good sources of protein would include:* Dairy, especially Greek yoghurt. A 0.75 cup/175g serving contains around 18g of protein. Cottage cheese has a similar amount of protein. * Eggs. 2 eggs contain around 12g of protein. * Pulses, especially lentils. 100g of lentils…
  • If this happens every month in last week of your cycle, then perhaps try eating at maintenance or at a lower deficit for that week? For YEARS I tried all those tricks to ignore my PMS hunger: drinking lots of tea, filling up on non-starchy veg, etc. I thought it was just my hormones playing tricks on me and didn't want to…
  • I did two sets of band-assisted chin ups at the dojo on Thursday ^_^ I've been losing weight really slowly lately (I'm down about 5lb since Easter) as I'm into the last 10-15lb, so NSVs are where it's at right now.
  • Yeah, I prefer weighing daily because it helps me get used to those fluctuations. I don't expect to lose weight from one day to the next, but if I only weigh once a week I'll be disappointed by a gain, even if that gain is from hormonal fluctuations or doing a new workout the day before. I also find it helps me, mentally,…
  • This is pretty much your only option if you want them to be perky without a bra on. There are no exercises you can do to tighten the connective tissue and reverse sagging. Now, to minimise sagging WITH a bra on, it's imperative to get a properly fitting one. If you live in the UK, go to Bravissimo. They specialise in D-KK…
