Maybe YouTube has given people the impression that poor form is rampant. At my location, the coaches walk around and correct or adjust people as needed, constantly. But then, I actually DO CrossFit instead of just watching people do it.

Just want to thank the OP for starting this thread. I've got five awesome new friends on my list thanks to this! :drinker:

When I started CF in January I was going 2x per week and I actually kept my PF membership going, but found myself going there less and less until finally I hadn't been there in about a month. I was still going to water aerobics once a week but had stopped doing anything at PF. I decided to drop PF and add a day at CF, and…

That is FANTASTIC. I love to hear positive stories like that.

You guys, I heard of a cult even worse than Crossfit! Where they expect you to log in every single day and record every single bit of exercise you do and everything you eat, I mean down to the ounce! You give them all kinds of personal information, and then they tell you exactly how much you should be eating every day...…

It's okay, just tell everyone there your uniform had too many Koolaid stains on it so you had to wash it. Then, do 50 burpees as penance. You should be right as rain in no time.
-
So can we be friends now? Would you like some of this Koolaid? :drinker: I kid! I kid!
-
Exactly. Which is why that response was so full of win, since the person who said "CF is a cult, status symbol and yuppy club" was wearing a football uniform in his profile pic.

If logging workouts and therefore having them show up in the newsfeed of anyone on my friends list means broadcasting, then I guess I'm broadcasting. And if defending something I have firsthand knowledge and experience in against many, many naysayers who have none makes me annoying and/or militant, then I guess I am guilty…
-
Can we get some more cowbell up in here?
-
Responding is a strange way of indicating your indifference. Since somebody commented on people "defending" CrossFit, my statement was in response to that. But please, continue to argue with me rather than spending your time on things you actually do care about.
-
Then speak out against that practice, but not CrossFit in total -- like you just did very eloquently. FWIW, we do not practice that way where I go. I have no problem at all with genuine criticism of the mistakes that are made -- at CrossFit, or anywhere else, including my own gym. If there is ever something going on there…

I know, look at me! I'm such a jock, going to my work outs wearing workout clothes! Calling jumping up on a box something fancy like "box jump." I mean, really, how could anyone else figure that lingo out?
-
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we've hit the "Recent Forum Topics" sidebar. Let the real fun begin!
-
I was being kind...
-
Since this is not the case where I spend my time three times a week, your assumption is incorrect.
-
Did it just get weird in here or what?
-
     Me too! LOVE IT. You know what I love most about Health_Gal showing up? This thread will surely be at the top all morning long... and while she may dissuade a few people from trying Crossfit, there will probably be way more people who will go check it out just to see what the hell…

You'd dump your trainer for adding to his/her own knowledge base? I'd ask you why you are so rabidly anti-Crossfit but honestly, I just don't care. Whatever it is, it's your own problem, and not a problem with the system itself, because that is just ridiculous.

For months I logged the workouts as HIIT because I didn't want to hear the negativity that Crossfit generates on MFP. Then I decided that anyone on my FL who spewed negativity at me for the way I choose to workout doesn't belong on my friends list. I don't think Crossfit is for everyone. In fact, I'm sure it's not. But I…

I used to go to a boxing gym where actual competitive boxers trained right alongside me, doing exactly the same workout. Our warmup was a standard warmup, the same every time, and our focus was on the actual moves done in boxing. It's a totally different workout and it is designed for a completely different purpose. But…

If you have to keep your class size to 12 students, and you have a limit on how many classes you can run per week (because the timing has to be right for most people and the space has to fit), you have to keep the price at a point where it will sustain the business and the people running it. Very simple math.
-
Congratulations. Around here, boot camp class is just as expensive as Crossfit, and curiously uses almost all of the same moves... go figure. I love when people refer to it as a fad, too. Really? Pushups are a fad? Jumping rope is a fad? Don't tell the boxers. Squats are a fad? Don't tell the weight lifters. Sprints are a…

It is also not correct to assume that I feel that Crossfit is better than anything you could ever do, since that is not the case. It is also not correct to say that I was referring to everyone who has not set foot in a Crossfit gym. I specifically referred to the people who BASH Crossfit... most of them have never even…

I'm glad you chimed in because you just reminded me of something. NEVER before in my life at any other gym, in any other type of class, has any other participant ever given me a pep talk, cheered me on, commented on my progress, or said at the end of it "wow, you killed it today." These things happen on a daily basis where…

$30 an hour for personal training is a good price, and one that you will not find ANYWHERE in the Boston area, period, and if you do, the person probably "took a weekend seminar course." If you do your research, you'll see that not only are there plenty of "great trainers with CrossFit" but that many of them were personal…

Thank you. I'm not at a typical "box," but it runs me about $118 a month to go three times per week. It's a bargain for the results I'm enjoying. I dropped my gym membership last month because I was never there anymore... I actually prefer Crossfit to anything going on at a regular gym. Also, regarding bashing Crossfit:…
