It is good if it helps you meet your macro goal for the day, tastes good, fills you up, keeps you going and meets any philosophical values you apply to your food. Otherwise, chose something else.

So what is the deal with Truvia? You don't like it because it's Coca Cola; or because it is processed? Because all sugar-type products are going to be processed to some degree - even sugar! As to your son being a Biology major - is he telling you to eat real sugar; or to avoid it and have a substitute? There are no health…

 Makes more sense that way! Guess I got mine from animal protein then. :(

Kudos man! As I scrolled down and saw the after picture I almost fell out of my chair! Awesome job!

Professional researchers should know how to back up statements like these with citations to the primary literature. So in for studies to show which juices make the best cleanses, complete with list of toxins removed! And studies that conclusively show how we get diabetes.

If I had a functional insulin receptor for every one of these low carb threads, I wouldn't be insulin resistant now... Just eat the damn carbs you want, as long as you are in deficit. Fat is fat, and you still have some to lose. Calorie deficit to lose weight. Cardio to help with that deficit. Resistance training to make…

But OP also said they want to eat Paleo as it is "natural". If the diets as marketed nowadays are not the actual caveman diet, then how is it any more "natural" than a 100% Twinkie diet?
-
The "natural way of eating" involves putting food into your mouth and masticating (just makes sure you swallow). Anything else is personal/cultural preference.

Firstly - losing weight isn't about a short term challenge, it's a long term commitment to changing the way you eat. A 12 week challenge can be a fun way to get you going, but don't be discouraged if nothing happens in that 12 weeks, or you don't win or whatever. Just remember that you didn't put the weight on in 12 weeks,…

No, I don't. I actually lost my weight (40 or so lb) before I found MFP. I used the tools here to track carbs more than calories, and to get an idea what I was eating, macro-wise. I eat to my glucose meter more than to a set caloric intake, and have learnt how to do that and maintain my weight. I haven't tracked food for a…

Yum! I was telling my daughter last night I had a hankering for some Indian food, and now you gotta go post all this yumminess!?

No controversy there - you are simply wrong  :drinker: I'm English, but live in the States. I missed my English bitter so much I had to start making it. I have an English IPA cask conditioning now for a festival in a few weeks, but normally I force carbonate for personal consumption. So shoot me CAMRA. I can't drink…

Assuming an average height, you must be over 400 lb to have a BMI that high. And yet you claim to be fit and in good health? I think you might have a serious case of denial going on here. This particular group simply isn't designed for you. It really sounds to me like you need to face reality, and take the advice…

Sugar, or carbohydrates? MFP tracks both, but sugar is just a subset of carbs. I just track carbs and hide the sugar column, and I'm prediabetic. But, to answer the question: anything with protein or fat.
-
Seriously? Like the protein is magically going to get converted into fat? Assuming you are running a deficit overall, no, protein is not going to make you fat. Cook a nice steak dinner, then prohibit your fiance from eating any in case HE gets fat. Hey, protein ya know!

Barley, hops and yeast in mine!

Where do you get your laughing gas from? My supermarket doesn't usually stock it. But then, it seems that they are all usually out of greek yogurt too these days.
-
You mean the whole world wasn't put here just for me???
-
OK - got you. Yes, macronutrients (macros) are protein, fat and carbohydrates. You need protein for building (and repairing) muscle. Fat is required for hormone synthesis and brain function. Carbs are for energy (complex carbs are slower to break down than simple carbs like table sugar), although protein and fat can be…

So, you got suckered in; you don't like the taste; you know cleanses are worthless... and yet you are still taking it? Grow a pair and tell this "friend" NO!
-
I'm a bit confused. Are you asking about how many calories to eat, or what your macro breakdown should be for a given calories amount? Plus, if you just had gastric bypass, don't you have a dietician telling you how much to eat? And how did you get gastric bypass if you only just had a baby? I would have thought they would…

Thinking about it in terms of percent body fat, since you are the top of the "healthy" BMI range, you are probably at the top of the average %bf range too, or about 30% (may not be accurate - I'd say based on your profile pic, it may be a bit lower? - but I'll use it just to play with the figures). 165 *.3 = 50 lb fat. 164…

As far as I can tell, the judge's biggest mistake here was not making them call the boy "Brian". But yeah - she overstepped her bounds on this. A clear case of the government imposing religion on an individual.
-
My local store didn't even have any 0% last night, Chobani or Fage :-( But yeah - finding the higher fat version is definitely much harder! I like the texture a lot more than for the 0%, plus it has fat in, right! I mix a 1/2 cup of yoghurt with blueberries and a handful or two or Kashi GoLean Crunch.

Even with regards sugar, the ADA may say that there is correlation between sugar consumption and diabetes. And they are correct. However, a correlation does not mean that sugar CAUSES diabetes. There is a link between obesity and diabetes too. Most obese people eat foods that are high in sugar. So is it obesity that causes…

Weight loss comes from diet, not exercise. You can't outrun a bad diet. That said, exercise will help cause a calorie deficit to assist the diet. Steady state cardio is good for burning a lot; interval training (HIIT) will burn lots in a shorter time. Most DVD exercise programs are cardio, although may have light weights…

Sugar fuels your body. Any food you eat is converted into glucose for transport around your bloodstream to organs and muscles. If you have a normal insulin response, your blood sugar will be in a "normal" range. You are not going to starve a systemic yeast infection with this or any other diet. If you have hypoglycemia…

I don't think a 5 or 6 pound variation from day to day is at all unusual. I "say" I'm 168, but I vary from 166 to about 172 (although usually under 170), and have just swung between those numbers for a year. If I start seeing the numbers creep higher than that, I'll say I'm in a bulk and just go with it
-
OK - now I don't think you are serious...
-
Well, while I don't think there is anything wrong with having a cheat/NSA meal, I don't think her reasons for allowing it are actually correct. No. Eating too much food over a period of time will pack on the fat. It has nothing to do with "spiking blood sugar" and isn't due to carbs alone. Agree. Although I'd say you can…
