I'm 5"4 and weigh around 141 at my last weigh-in (which was over two weeks ago, think I'm under 140 now but hate hate hate weighing myself)...but anyway, do you guys ever feel like there are unrealistic expectations for healthy girls who may be on the upper end of the healthy BMI? I never know whether I 'should be' skinny…

I had a hard time telling my boyfriend that I was trying to lose a little weight, because I was afraid that he would accuse me of being obsessive/crazy. Finally I did mention it to him one night as he was trying to cook dinner, and after telling me that I was crazy (no surprise) I explained that I just wanted to get…

I like staying in and cooking when it's cold. Just because you're cooking doesn't necessarily mean unhealthy either...usually it's better for you! Soups, stews and chili are my go-tos, but I've also started experimenting with some other healthy recipes on Food Network.com

Especially as a girl, I find that people will always make comments about weight. The positive end of that is that I got some compliments and swapped fitness mags with my mom.

Try spaghetti squash! I have it with turkey meatballs and marinara...yum!

My parents, sister and I always go for a run on Thanksgiving Day. It was a long walk when we were kids, but for the past 5 years it's turned into a family 5K.

Order apps! Get one salad-based app and one protein-based app. That will keep the portions down and you'll get plenty of veggies.

Needed a late-night snack last night...luckily, it was a healthy one, but my portion sizes were a little extreme! Oh well, today I got an early workout and healthy breakfast in!

heard in a mag that sex (okay, has to be vigorous people) burns around 250 cals for 20 min, depending on weight and, again, how much fun you're having!

In high school, I lost a bunch of weight using Weight Watchers Points, and I got to the point where I could remember what points I had eaten and stopped logging. I continued to lose, but then when I got to the maintain phase about a year later, I fell off the wagon...and by that point had forgotten a lot! My advice is to…

Ok, you're awesome! =) This site really makes you want to stick with it, doesn't it?
-
omg those are my favorite too....love their protein shakes post-workout!
-
Soups! Especially the Light Veggie from Progresso! They really fill you up.

Get workouts from websites like www.womenshealthmag.com and follow them! Also consider getting a service like Netflix so that you don't have to buy workout DVDs but can use them at home...so much cheaper!

I'm at a healthy weight too, but want to get back in shape and stop eating so much junk (and fit into my clothes a little better). I've been at this two weeks and feel so much better, regardless of numbers. Good for you!

I like your focus on protein and produce, sounds like a simple way to get as many nutrients as possible. I've been very successful with that in the past, I'm sure it will help. Here are some things that helped me when I was missing my carbs: - try new veggies and find new favorites. I love baking veggies so they are almost…

I'm actually feeling like this today. Something always helps me get through: just do SOMETHING. If I don't feel like going to the gym, I try and do a little something, even if it's just a few push-ups, to keep me on track. If I hold myself to doing the little things, somehow my body starts telling me that it wants to go…

"Remember, as long as you are staying within your calories and sticking to your goals you are doing it! You will see results sure enough!" Great advice, that makes me feel better already. Guess I'm just scared of failing...but aren't we all, right? This community is great, helps me put my thoughts in perspective and move…

I'm a big fan of omelettes too, and I also really like soup (most canned broth-based soups run below 200 cals or lower per serving), which keeps me full for hours! A pre-portioned option like a frozen Smart Ones meal is one of my other go-tos.

you won't be wearing those new jeans for long! Keep it up and you'll be in single digit jeans in no time!

I wish my goals were concrete. Wish I had a real answer to this question....I guess I'll be happy when living a healthy lifestyle is just that, a lifestyle, and it no longer becomes a chore. Oh, and I'd like a cute little ab-tastic waist!

Great discussion everybody. I think we're on the right page in terms of balance and moderation, and enjoying some special time with family.
-
That's true. In fact, I've been out to eat, been out to bars, and cooked delicious meals (smoking feasts sound awesome!) all without blowing my goals (well, sometimes there are the extra 50-100 cals here and there). But I also allow some elbow room for my favorites! Yes, it is possible to lose weight and have what you want.
-
That's exactly what I was getting at....all these responses about simply eating sensibly make so much sense. Yes, the holiday isn't about food...so we shouldn't be worried about it, whether that means eating a little more turkey or a little less gravy. And watching FOOTBALL!
-
I deserve it....only I deserved it every day of the week, and deserving it had nothing to do with eating healthy/exercising!

Get fitted for shoes now! I'm flat footed, and I have to buy good shoes or else my ankles hurt/feet go numb, etc. Also, try pushing down with your heels instead of your toes when you're on the elliptical. It gets your butt muscles and helps with circulation.
-
Good points...as always, smart to eat what makes you feel good. I just worry about people who are too stressed about the specifics. Congrats on your weight loss!
-
Great planning...just don't be afraid if you want a little extra pumpkin roll. It's a holiday, enjoy it!
-
I'll be undergoing a true challenge...two Thanksgivings! First my parent's rental in the Outer Banks, then my boyfriend's parent's house in Virginia. I have to make sure I don't fill up at one house! To top it off, I don't believe in dieting on holidays...in moderation. Not to get all personal, but my very fit sister has…

You're doing great! That is a HUGE deal, so good for you! I love this site too, it really encourages a healthy lifestyle balanced with exercise, veggies and the occasional Coke.
