  • Have you tried calorieking.com? And jealous!! I love goose!
  • I'm assuming\hoping this comment is suffering from the internets poor ability to portray sarcasm.
  • Just had loaded cauliflower cheese, which is becoming one of my fave dishes. I boil some cauliflower and halved green beans until tender. I add these in a dish with some pan fried chopped bacon and diced chicken breast. Cheese sauce I make using cream, mustard powder, cheddar, blue cheese and some flax to help thicken.…
  • Sorry, poor choice of words. Prime culprits.
  • Cramps - Carbs help keep sodium in the body, low carb can actually leave you low on salt. This can cause cramps. Many suggest a cup of stock/broth to help compensate. ETA: Oh, also plenty of water. Your muscles need it to recover. Constipation - Are you getting sufficient fibre? Easy to fall short on low carb. Make sure…

  • Aspartame went through more tests and trials than any product in history before it was even close to being allowed on the market. They literally begged to find something wrong with it. If it was even close to being responsible for half the things it's meant to be it would never have been allowed. Next people will be…
  • Personally I'd say using Katch McArdle with your BF% is the best way to go. A 300lb person of pure lbm would have a higher BMR than a 300lb person with 50% lbm.
  • What's already been said. Eat more calories, preferably in the form of fat, it'll keep you full for longer.
  • How about since heart disease etc is caused by inflammation, of which carbs are the prime suspect.
  • Yes because this guy on a very low carb diet clearly lacks the energy to do strength training. http://youtu.be/EjpxQJ0ykMc?hd=1
  • Really? In fact you're right. Cheese and bacon don't have the same benefits as grains. It's the grains that will give you diabetes, heart issues etc, NOT fat.
  • The restaurant I used to work at we done oyster mushrooms, red onion, garlic, pine nuts, pan fried in some butter, served on toasted ciabatta bread. It was absolutely gorgeous!
  • Started at 360lbs, dropped to 300 lbs on old diet. Now losing the good way and the weight I want to lose. 296lbs so about 100lbs for me to lose. Oh, and @ 15% cut I'm on 2550 cals a day.
  • Now I'm starting to utilise fat properly I'm often eating 3 times a day (maybe one small snack too) and consuming 2500 cals still. Before I was having to eat 5-6 times a day to do that and that was with enlarged carb portions. Now things get cooked and smothered in butter, cheese and pork scratchings get dunked in mayo and…
  • I do hope you're including sat fats in that statement when you say real fats. About as real as you can get.
  • I think the issue with pizza is the tendency to over indulge. I'm low carb now but previously used to buy mini pizza bases by Napolina, 6 inch ones. Each base is 220 kcal. Add some dolmio, 30g low fat cheese, peppers onions, sometimes a diced rasher of bacon. 15 mins in the oven and you're done. Even with the bacon it…
  • I've been making these for a couple of weeks now and just wow, a real game changer! I'm probably making one every other day. I wasn't missing bread for the bread itself do much, more the functionality. The ability to turn a few rashers of bacon into something more. I don't have a microwave so have been using the oven…
  • One of the better posts I've read here for a while. Of course we'd all like to be at our ideal weight/figure sooner rather than later but doesn't mean it's going to happen that way. I think a longer journey often helps anyway as it helps reprogram your relationship with food. The longer the process, the less likely you'll…
  • Seeing as this has turned to a semi-rant thread, I'm getting very close to hiding away in this group and not visiting any of the general forums. I find myself screaming at the screen sometimes and just want to reply but know 90% of the time what I say will be shot down. A few favourite head banging lines: It doesn't…
  • The idea only came to me as a once every blue moon idea but rapidly going off it. Still drinking Pepsi Max too but want to quit that. Starting to think although these products may not cause an insulin response, they do continue to feed a sweet tooth. Im thinking the best thing is to cut it all and hopefully it kill off any…
  • Some I looked at had carbs listed and were sugar alcohols. I read these are on as don't trigger insulin but sure i remember reading a bit of debate about whether they were ok or not.
  • Fruit sugars are definetly not good. The so bad demon refined sugars (sucrose) are 50% glucose 50% fructose. The body breaks the sucrose down into these two units. Fruit sugars are just fructose. Glucose can be used by pretty much every cell in the body meaning it gets used quickly. Fructose, on the other hand, can only be…
  • Two egg omlette with courgette, pepper and cheese. Two sausages and mushrooms fried in butter. A few cheese strings and some pork cracklings. Parmesan chicken thighs and a salad.(dressed in the butter I cooked the chicken thighs in) :-D Never been over keen on olive oil dressings but rapidly loving using melted butter to…
  • Glad I could bring this to people. Very surprised you hadn't stumbled across it yet though Deadvim. I've quickly learned how much you like to read. ;-) I'm still new to this too but the way I understand it it's not about carbs not being burnt and stored. The insulin flooding your system from the carbs causes the fats to be…
  • Macros are macronutrients and are your proteins, carbs and fats. Micronutrients are your vitamins and minerals.
  • I second Lucia's suggestion of Katch McArdle. I was gaining on reset and redone my numbers using this formula. Due to having a high bf% (around 40%) it meant my original BMR figure was too high. After adjusting the weight levelled out. On other fronts, another 2lb loss this week. :-) I'm almost seeing the opposite to some…
  • Well done! I know the feeling as I also dropped below my pre-reset weight this week after gaining 5lbs on a six week reset. Some people might look at it that I've only lost 1lb in 2 months but I've now lost 2lb+ a week for 2 weeks eating 2550 cals, whereas before I was losing that eating just below 2000 calories. Well…
  • I have a customer at work who sometimes brings me in things: cookies, slices of cake. I take them, thank them and say I'll have it after my lunch.... and then leave it for one of my colleagues.
  • I think a lot of the reason is calories. When I was tighter on my calories I'd eat whole eggs but if I was making an omlette I'd use 1/2 whole eggs, 1/2 whites. Just helped keep the calorie count down.
  • That's exactly what it means in the UK. :-P
