In response to Razboo's comment, yes, green tea is great for you. But check the label on that Lipton Diet stuff, because from what I recall there is a lot of junk in there that isn't tea!

When I was afraid to eat it was when I was in the throes of an eating disorder. I'm not saying that means YOU have an eating disorder, but the purpose of my comment is to advise you not to let the fear run away with you, because in my experience it led to obsessing over everything food, exercise, and body-image related…

Personally, I wouldn't. Even though it has 0 calories, it still has chemical sweeteners and other who-knows-what in it. Part of the point of water is to help flush your system of toxins, and the tea is instead adding more problems for your body to deal with rather than helping to solve them. Mind you, I'm not saying don't…

I believe that it's good to remember periodically that there is more to life than dieting and losing weight, and that if you want to go out with friends to a nice restaurant or celebrate superbowl sunday to its fullest extent, that should be okay to do. I wouldn't think of it as a reward, rather just a break to share a…

Sorry, I can't answer your question, but I just have to say your picture is so cute and funny!

You might want to get a small kitchen scale to help give you an idea of an ounce. You can find them for $10-$20 at Target. Also a 1 inch cube of cheese, a slice of bread, and a snack-size back of chips each weigh an ounce. If you are talking volume, there are 8 ounces in a cup.

Sometimes if I am hungry at night I'll have a small glass of milk, and that does the trick. Milk is great because it has sugars and protein, and unless it's skim, a little fat to help curb your hunger. I notice this happening to me when I've worked out hard that day.

Maybe you have plateaued. I think I've read that this often happens to people after 3-4 months of weight loss. If you have been doing the same exercise routine for awhile, your muscles adapt to it and are no longer challenged, and therefore you won't burn as many calories. If you haven't already, you could try changing up…

thanks for the info!

Can anyone explain what is magic about the 55% carb 15% protein ratio recommended by the site (for the 1 lb/week loss for a female)? Does it make a difference how you change that ratio as long as calories remain the same? Thanks.

Thanks everyone for the support! And thank you for sharing, Diann and Carajo. Nice to meet you!

Hello everyone, I just joined yesterday. I have been "recovered" from an eating disorder for about 2 years now (every day is still an improvement) and have a fairly consistently positive outlook on my body now. That said, I am technically somewhat overweight and seem to have been gaining weight since the holidays that I…

Yum, donuts... that is so easy to do! I think we have all been there. Be careful not to restrict your calories so much for the rest of the day that you feel hungry and deprived... this can have the opposite effect by driving you to eat more. I was once given the advice that it is better to go over your calories for the day…

Way to go with quitting smoking! It is such an empowering thing to do. You will feel great, and exercising will be so much easier. Welcome!

Your fluid intake can make a lot of difference, especially combined with what kind of food you're eating - i.e., foods high in sodium will cause you to retain fluid and therefore increase your weight. Weighing yourself twice a day is a lot, and there are bound to be days like this when your weight fluctuates and it is…
