  • Well I managed to keep the bike rubber side down this week. • Had a spill at half way point, about 55km from home. Limped home! So taking photos not top of my agenda. Now nursing a sore arm, pride and damaged Castelli kit. Bike seems to ride OK once I'd straightened the brake levers out. Cannot see any obvious damage on the frame. Will get it into the LBS for a thorough check over.…
  • Today's Ride - BigYin thanks for organising, if I didn't have the motivation of the challenge I am not sure I would have been out today on my own in that wind. http://www.strava.com/activities/127453239 Only 72.6km but hard work on my own into that wind. • Thanks for the kind comments, cataract was a side affect of the detached retina from last year. Its been difficult making right turns on the bike, as basically I could not see too well over my right shoulder, had to rely on my cycling buddies!! or just stop and look over left shoulder. Got the all clear yesterday so I am…
  • Sorry I missed this one a DNS for me. In my defence, I had a cataract removed on the Monday and have been banned from cycling for 2 weeks!! Its a long two weeks.

  • My Strade Bianche Being new to this, I kind of missed the idea of taking photos etc. Coning back home into the headwind felt every bit as hard as that climb they had into the last km. 71.3km plus 640m climbing 3h01m27s http://www.strava.com/activities/118657759 TBY Edit - 71.3km Logged, Unmetalled road Bonus 0pt, Eroica…
  • Don't stand on the fence, what do you really think :)
  • Well done
  • Not on meds, my HbA1C has been in the 5%s now for 12 months by diet and exercise (a lot of exercise) alone. I lost a significant amount of weight and my Dr says that my T2 was clearly caused by insulin resistance as a result of the additional weight.
  • Sounds good thanks for arranging BigYin
  • So how does it work? I wouldn't mind giving it a go. Enjoyed the TDF and Giro ones from last year. Wont be able to ride between 17th March and end of March as I get my cataract removed (Side effect of the detached retina) but should be able to do the others.

  • I use one by IBGstar. Mine is for Phone but I am sure there must be an Android version too. You can enter BG, Carbs at last meal plus any insulin. You can get various averages and email a spreadsheet of results. Its free and I've used it for about 6 months.
  • I find even when I push it hard (for me hard is an average of 28km/h at an average cadence of 85-90) I burn at about 450-550 Calories per hour according to my Garmin HRM. Just back from a 95k ride pace was low (average of 25km/h) as there was a lot of climbing (1000m). I averaged 420 calories/ hour. I've never managed to…
  • Welcome. It will all seem very over whellming at first. You don't mention where you live. If its the UK your Doctor will arrange various other tests to check feet, kidney function and eyes etc you may be lucky and have an active support group local to you as well. My local health authority also run a weekly "drop in"…

  • Sorry missed your question. I started out trying to do at least 30 minutes of cardio exercise a day. I read that the effect of exercise can have a positive effect on the BG levels for several hours after finishing. I now do at least an hour of cardio, six days a week when not travelling with my job and at least 30 minutes…
  • Robert, Strava is an app that tracks your cycling and running. It's a great training aid. I link it to the Garmin GPS on my bike so I can record my speed, cadence and hear rate at various points but you can just use it on a smartphone to track route and speed. Excellent results too Jessie. I agree on the need to remain…
  • Thanks for the posts everyone. I won't be leaving the group, the title was very tongue in cheek. The theme of the questions seems to be how did I do it? Two things. Eating less and moving more!! I saw positive results via the dieting. I joined a gym and started to get fit. This enabled me to take up cycling last November.…
  • These were taken exactly 12 months apart 26th July 2012 and 26th July 2013.

  • Another thanks to TBY from me as well. Really enjoyed this and I definitely went out more with the thought I needed to support "my team"
  • How are you calculating your calories burned? If you are using MFP be aware it overestimates what you burn. MY experience is at least double!! So if you are eating back calories based on MFP, your net calories in will be more than you think.
