  • It's about genetics - where you store fat. At 105 pounds I've just started to get some visible rib definition around my pectoral muscles. Body fat is around 18.9% according to the body fat scale. When I was bigger I used to look at Victoria Secret models and think they were too skinny. Now I'm starting to get some of their…
  • I find some fast food appealing, like Taco Bell bean burritos (I love legumes), but most of it disappoints me. I can walk down the produce aisle and put five or ten different species of plant into my meals and they are full of fiber, nutrients, and rich colors / textures. If I'm lazy I can at least stick to baked whole…
  • I don't think carbs are bad at all. Whole wheat bread and fruit are good for you. With macros I try to hit one gram of protein per pound of body weight, and I'm around 15 - 20 % fat intake naturally. The rest is carbs, and I regularly go over what MFP sets for me. Weight loss is slow but happening when I'm on a deficit.
  • The key to getting slim abs isn't toning exercises, it's losing fat. Do more cardio and eat a little bit less. Genetics will determine where the fat comes from first but it will eventually shed from the abs. Women naturally have more fat around the lower abdomen and upper thigh, though. It's fairly normal.
  • I don't know what to say to help you feel better but I was in your shoes a few years ago. I was very unhappy, depressed, convinced I had social anxiety disorder or a big case of shyness. I had everything - youth, intellect, nice clothes and a roof over my head. I lived in a big apartment in lower Manhattan. But I was fat,…
  • That's about a pound and a half a week, right? Yeah, you can absolutely do it. I lost an average of 1.5 pounds a week for the first few months when I was around 150 pounds. It only gets hard when you are near around 10 pounds of your goal. I kept my sanity by exercising about four days a week (you will hit "the wall"…
  • I don't know what you have on hand....but if you want clean sweets, consider: greek yogurt sweetened with stevia fruit fruit ice cream smoothie (frozen banana, whey protein, 1 cup milk, sweetener of choice) skinny cow ice cream sandwiches or 100 calorie weight watchers ice cream bars (I recommend triple divine chocolate)…
  • I don't think that goal weight is a problem for your height. A lot of young women are leaner and slimmer during puberty than adulthood, so I can see why some people might be uncomfortable with that goal. I am about 30 pounds lower now than I was in high school, so it's all relative. If you want to push to that weight and…
  • Hi everyone! I'm 4'11" and I have about 8 pounds to lose to reach my doctor's suggested goal weight. I started out 8 months ago about 50 pounds heavier! Hopefully I can lose some of the flab around my belly and look hot and lean this summer and forever more! It's really hard to lose weight so close to goal. Mostly because…
  • My skin breaks out a little when the weather is warmer and more humid, and when I use any cosmetic containing bismuth. Chocolate doesn't affect it, and I haven't had fried foods for a while so I have no idea if that is a cause.
  • Definitely take him to the vet if he seems to be in pain. My dogs scoot on the ground every now and then, especially prior to a bowel movement. I've heard that it is a normal behavior for them. But they never seem to be in pain or uncomfortable. I think they do it on my carpet to spite me. :)
  • Sorry if this question is ignorant, but why would light jogging irritate your arms if you keep them static? I'm thinking you could use a spin bike without handlebars (just sit upright), or the arc trainer at the gym if you keep your hands to the side rather than the mobile bars. The stationary bike is very easy to use and…
  • I had the same issue! I noticed one side of my stomach was larger than the other, and the crease at the bottom where it pokes out (sorry if graphic) was more defined and noticeable on the "big" side. Fortunately the more weight I've lost, the more my body appears to even out.
  • I do. I feel like I wrecked my body for being overweight for so long. The best we can do is to eat well, exercise, and take care of our health! If that's not good enough for him, he's not good enough for you.
  • If you feel fine eating less, then do it. A formula can't possible take into account every variable in every single person. Some people have slower metabolisms than others. P.S. Scooby's calculator has me eat 1940 calories to maintain weight. That would make me gain slowly. I cut at about 20% under that number for a mild…
  • Trust me. You need to lift heavy to see the best results. You won't get big - not even a little. I use heavy weights at the gym (for a girl) but I'm small!
  • Exercise is easy. Healthy eating isn't hard. Eating a low enough amount of food to lose weight every day, and ignoring those hunger pangs before bed - now that's hard!
  • I've got 8 pounds to go but I don't think I'm going to make it by June! Would love to join for support and motivation, though. :)
  • I've been there. Things that are too heavy in salt, sugar and fat trigger excess eating for me. Even if my healthy foods are delicious, it's hard to go overboard on them. Binge eating is a bad habit to break but necessary to lose or maintain weight. Wrap and pre-portion your food so you are eating every couple of hours and…
  • haha We both have excellent taste. in tickers.
  • I stay safe by using familiar paths close to the road and only going out during the day. I have had someone honk from a distance, but nothing more. A few cars slow down, perhaps in fear that they'll run me over, lol. None of those things bother me, as I love to run and live in a safe area. What bothers me, a lot, is that…
  • Make sure you are eating within calories. Your results sound like mine. I stayed around 105 (goal was 95) for a couple of months and I do look leaner around the torso and the upper arms. Try to use measuring tape once a month to see if there is any difference. Scales lie. Loose pants don't lie. Adjust your calories…
  • Yes, I felt the same way when I started jogging. I wear long sleeve, large tops, pull my hair back and put on some beefy sunglasses. I'm probably hard to recognize that way! And trust me, people will admire you - or anyone - for running.
  • It's not all or nothing. It's not 100% effort all the time. Change your diet gradually and don't cut your calories too low because that will lead to a binge. You are not responsible for your hormonal impulses. The human body does not like change and generally wants to maintain a certain weight. The taste buds do not prefer…
  • It's not your fault for being hungry. It's your body responding via hormones to being in a deficit - and trying to get you out of it. Sit tight, try not to keep trigger foods within a room's reach, and increase your calories a little so that binge eating is not as likely. The less you eat, the more you are likely to binge…
  • Chicken? Marinade in pickle juice overnight (that's their secret process at Chik - fil - A ). Then cook it on the george foreman grill for around 6 minutes or until it's no longer pink inside. Not overcooking it makes the inside nice and juicy. For protein shakes, I think Optimum whey vanilla was a very subtle and…
  • 1600 calories per day 4'10.5" 104 lb 15 - 18% BF Exercise 5 hours over the week, do something every day
  • Both the elliptical at my gym and MFP say around 500 calories for an hour, and that's not far off if your heart rate is up the whole time, but I think it's way too much for a moderate effort. My guess is around 200 - 300 per hour for light to moderate effort.
  • I am using 1600 calories per day, a mild deficit. My goals are : maximum nutrition in each meal, several small meals a day fruit / veg / lean protein / whole grain, exercise every day, about 5 hours a week weight training x 2 cardio x 4 Avoid a lot of carbs before bed eat more before and after workouts, earlier in the day…
