Yes to the vitamin D. No to the tanning. I used to tan for seasonal affectiveness disorder, but I feel it's not as beneficial. I'm not knocking anyone who tans, that's a personal decision, but I think for this issue vitamin D is more important. Take at least 2,000 IU daily - most people are really deficient anyway!…

A lot of my coworkers were oohing and ahhing over this book for a while... it does seem like a bunch of BS to me. I haven't read the book, and I don't know specifics, but I just don't understand how knowing your blood type can make a difference. Years and years ago people didn't know their blood type and they all at the…

I have done it and am trying to get back into it. You will get a lot of *kitten* on the boards about this FYI... not sure why but people are really opinionated on stuff like this. Anyway, check out Mark's Daily Apple and Robb Wolf's blogs. They have great info and recipes. And, don't be afraid of fat!! It's what will keep…

....Aaaaaand I pulled 215# last night. :) Yay deadlifts!

I just recently got my husband to try it out. He is a marathoner and is trying to get his marathon time under 3:00. I encouraged him to try it because I've heard so many success stories of runners getting faster through crossfit (myself included - I've cut off SO much time from my races with not much running!). We don't…

Good for you for setting a goal! Hal Higdon has some of the most widely used (and free!) half marathon training programs. Here is the novice one: http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm I have used Hal's programs before with success. Be sure to increase your calorie intake (I'm not sure what you're at now, but I…

Haha, I read it once, and can't tell either. I was slightly offended, lol. Where are you going in Hawaii? I went to one on Maui and just paid a $20 drop-in fee. They were super nice :)

I had 6 laser treatments on my underarms (also a Groupon!). It hurt - a lot - but the pain is so temporary and SO worth it. Felt like rubber bands snapping against my skin. (like others have said.) The cooling gel helps, and it also helps if you take a pain reliever shortly beforehand. I had great results. I still have to…

I get Carrie Underwood ALL the time.

Shop around until you find a pants style that fits everywhere. Or, buy a pair that fits in the waist/stomach, then have them tailored. Remember, you are unique, and clothes are made to fit a mannequin.

hoping to hit 200# soon!

Looking back at this... I don't know where the EFF I got 185# x 5 DL from. I looked through my log books and the last time we did 1rm for DL's was a long time ago and it was 165#. Last night, though, we did 3-3-3-3-3 (all at 90% of 1RM) and I used 170#. So, that was a PR for me!

[img][/img] My December photo. Been eating kinda crappy lately... ehhhh. I am getting stronger though so I'm sure once I clean up my diet I will look a lot better!

Food: Eh. I've been great with sticking to healthy and satisfying meals, yet I snack a lot at work. There's so much crap here and I eat out of boredom I think. (maybe my meals aren't as satisfying as I think... hmm...) I get so upset with myself because there's no reason for me to be doing this. I've kind of resigned…

Check out these strength standards: (click the links for each exercise to see the table) http://www.exrx.net/Testing/WeightLifting/StrengthStandards.htm These are 1RM standards... also, give some training without the smith machine a try! It can seriously hinder your form and technique. Keep up the good work!!

I am not promoting/bashing paleo, but from what I understand it, the true reason many people follow it is not for weight loss. I've done a lot of reading on the paleo "diet," and it seems that most people see a lot of health benefits by elminating grains and dairy. It's not so much about weight loss, although that can be a…

Definitely with you, why would you ruin a delicious steak by cooking the hell out of it??? I usually go for medium rare these days; I used to order medium but I feel like that never left enough pink. I definitely grossed out my giflriends over the weekend by getting too excited about how pink the meat I ordered was :p

Crossfit (our box separates MetCon WODS and Strength & Power WODS... I am going to focus on Strength & Power for the next couple of months with about one MetCon per week). My goal is 5x a week total. I eat pretty clean but am aiming to go paleo in the new year. Bring it!

No. You will find yourself tired and sluggish and probably hungry. I'd start with about 1500 and see how it goes, you can adjust accordingly!

I think I am going to make Chicago 2012 my first full as well! I have no idea what my pace will be, though... can't say I'd run WITH anyone (cause I'm just like that) but I'd definitely meet up afterwards!

Check out fit2fat2fit.com. He's a personal trainer who intentionally gained 60 lbs in 6 months and intends to lose it all in 6 more months. He has precise meal and workout plan on his website. And I noted the humor in your post, but there is no such thing as a quick fix... unfortunately :/ (if there is... it's unhealthy,…

I'm pretty sure that once I've decided to "go all out" with eating, I don't track. lol. It doesn't happen super often but on holidays or race days, I usually just don't bother... probably bad but I haven't had a problem with it yet

I wouldn't worry about it. It's probably included in the bacon. I do that all the time and never thought to add the bacon grease separately. :)

From what I can tell MFP sets protein too low. Aim for 1g protein per pound of body weight. :) Hope that helps!

EAT BEFORE!!!! No, you don't have to eat a huge plateful of food. But, how is the car going to run without gas in the tank? You need to fuel your body so you have the energy to perform your workout. (you'll burn more calories if you have the energy... don't believe anyone that says you'll "just burn fat" if you don't…

My first time was 21:26 back in May. And last friday - 17:58!! Pretty happy with the improvement.

And to be fair, I believe Jillian has a lot of knowledge about other areas of fitness. I"ve read her books and am a big fan of her. She has an awesome workout regimen and knows her stuff. I think she just wasn't ready for the O-lifting.
