When I was first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes my doctor recommended I go on the South Beach diet. It is a low carb diet. That changed my life. I must be on a low carb diet to control my diabetes unless I want to be on medication for the rest of my life. If I ate the amount of carbs that are recommended by nutritionist…

bad mushroom?

What I would eat is the turkey, any fresh vegetables that might be included as long as they aren't swimming in a mushroom sauce and salad. When my family gets together for a holiday meal I usually bring 2 or 3 dishes to share that I can eat such as fresh green beans, cauliflower or asparagus, and a sugar-free, low carb…

Watch the chicken or turkey you buy. Check the package to see if it has been injected with a solution to "enhance flavor". Those solutions usually include sodium and sugar. We've started buying most of our meats from a local meat producer.

Those are good reading on a keto stick. Even just trace amounts on the stick in the morning indicates that you are right where you need to be. You do not want to be consistently showing high ketone levels as that could indicate a dangerous situation. You only need to test in the morning.

Excellent article about CICO. I believe he has hit the nail on the head. It has taken me years to learn how my metabolism work, how much carbs affect me, my level of insulin resistance, etc. Just counting calories made me fatter.

Based on my clothes I know that I am losing weight all over. The first place I could "see" a difference was my face and then my left knee. LOL. I don't know why but my left knee is getting a lot thinner than my right knee.

Bump just means they want the thread to stay at the top of the list so they post "bump".

I love it with seafood.

LOL!! The pressure that she didn't like was the 135/90. Yes, that is elevated for me but it's not that bad. Personally, I think it was a result of me lifting 300+ pounds onto the exam table in the doc's office. Dropping 52 pounds makes a huge difference. When I was in my 20's (and still significantly overweight) my bp…

Last week while on vacation we played 2 rounds of putt-putt. I was able to bend over and retrieve my ball out of the hole every time. A year ago when we played I could not do that. A couple of days ago I looked in the mirror and saw a different face looking back at me.

The low carb diet given to me by my physician recommends drinking bouillon every day to increase salt intake unless you use plenty of salt on your food. It states that if you feel light headed or dizzy, drink the bouillon or something salty. I recently spoke to a dietician connected with my insurance's wellness plan who…

Thank you. I appreciate your encouragement. I've watched when I walk with others and I can match them foot fall for foot fall yet they will quickly be way out in front of me. That's why I've wondered about the "labels". I'm not really worried about giving myself unearned calories. More times than not "earned" calories…

Tell him you have a list of chores for him to do the next time he comes over. I bet he won't show up for weeks.

A colonoscopy works.

That's pretty close to what I was going to suggest.

I live exactly 1 mile from my work. It takes me a half an hour to walk it at what feels to me like a moderate/brisk pace. That would be me walking fast but just slow enough not to be out of breath and unable to talk.

Your body cannot build muscle without enough calories. You need more calories.

Fantastic transformation.

I have just recently started using almond milk or the almond/coconut blend. I mostly use it in my coffee. I use either that or tons of halfnhalf. Using the almond milk cuts way down on my calorie/carb count. I cannot drink skim or low fat milk as it raises my blood glucose level. Removing the fat from milk just leaves all…

I love fresh asparagus with eggs for breakfast.

Make sure you are getting enough salt.

I went bra shopping 2 weeks ago. I bought 2 bras in the size I measured. I even tried them on. But when I got home and wore them a couple of days they were too uncomfortable and I really can't wear them... yet. So, I pulled out my sewing machine and "resized" my old bras. I took in at least 3 inches on each side.

I suffered with PF for years not knowing that was what it was. Every morning I'd get up and couldn't put any weight on my heel. Manage to hobble to the bathroom and then magically it would be gone. It would go away for awhile and then come back. Finally, I remembered to tell my doctor about it and he diagnosed it. He gave…

I fully expect to have to eat low carb for the rest of my life as not eating low carb put me over 300 pounds and diabetic. I'd rather eat low carb the rest of my life than be on insulin or other diabetes drugs the rest of my life.

Half n half or unsweetened almond milk or a combo of both.

I didn't just let myself gain all this weight. I was fighting an enemy I did not understand. When I was 18 I weighed 154 pounds. For my body that is 30 lbs overweight. I went on a low calorie diet. Lost 10 lbs, stopped losing, got discouraged and gave up. Quickly gained that weight back. I gained 45 lbs with my first…
