Not being able to catch my toddler, increasing pain in my arthritic hip, elasticated waist bands and not being able to see my winkie when I peed

a fascinating debate. There's clearly no black and white here. People tend to vary a great deal and how they deal with compulsion and addiction and I don't think they are 2 mutually exclusive conditions. There's always some sort of perceived gain when we do something which is "bad for us" and physiological addiction e.g to…

don't think it can be safely done. Don't quite see why one birthday leads to a 1.5kg weight gain!

very, very tough to control weight whilst taking insulin even with very tight control so don't be too surprised if further weight loss proves to be difficult. I suppose watching your HbA1c, blood pressure and cholesterol is key along with remaining active. I wish you all the best!

5-6 Litres is way,way too much and could make you extremely unwell.

There's clearly a huge number of kind, nurturing and considerate people out there on MFP! When it comes down to it, eating less (and smartly) and being more active is the way forward. Having dozens of strangers sending you encouragement is unlikely to be the answer. Personally I initially wondered if you were trolling but…

we are beginning to understand a little bit more about the physiology of metabolism.Turns out that 2 people of the same height, weight, age and gender may need very different calorie intakes to maintain their weight even if they have identical lifestyles. We all respond differently to exercise too which is a bit depressing…

I would like to be in a state where i'm not embarrassed to wander around the beach without a shirt on this summer.

I have 2 "Blowout days" a week where I have a really good dinner and dessert. I usually have something for dessert every day, even if it's only a couple of biscuits. I usually average about 1900 calories a day (net) which include about 4 hours of hard exercise a week. I am losing about a pound a week. This week I went out…

surely the laws of conservation apply here! You can't go to bed, sleep 10 hours and gain weight overnight. It's just not possible. Weight does fluctuate wildly from day to day and it's the overall trend form month to month that is important + the difference in how your clothes fit. If your weight does increase overnight…

Well, I am a doctor and this really needs a one to one between you and your Cardiologist. Extremely unwise to ask this question on a forum. VT potentially fatal and often managed with an ICD device.

No diet ever works in the long run. All gains are at best , temporary. Only permanent lifestyle changes have been shown to be efective long term. That's not my personal opinion, there is a substantial evidence base to back this theory up.

over here in the UK, we are beginning to see a similar phenomenon. There is a worrying tactic seen in clothes stores called "vanity sizing". You try on a pair of trousers and are surprised that you can fit into them given that they are a certain waist size. You then go home, measure your waist and find a large disparity…

I had a major blowout day when I took a trip to Old Trafford to see my team with one of my (very overweight) chums. I managed to scarf down a bacon and egg sandwich, a Whopper with cheese meal, 2 donuts, a muffin, a footlong steak and cheese and a load of cookies in 1 day. I totted it up this morning and it came to 4200…

homemad kebabs, pitta, salad, hummus and a coke + some chocolate. And yes, it's my rest day + blow out day before another week of self denial!

Either you are a troll or have a major eating disorder. Either way, you need help. I'm voting troll in which case you're really sad

Been a doctor for 18 years. It's usually very rewarding (apart from the politics)

Pizza a major no no. Also, it's easy to forget the odd food item. For example, i just finished off my 3 year old's fairy cake and chicken breast. At the end of the day, you have to eat more to gain weight. Exercise is a anabolic activity and does not in and of itself stimulate weight loss. It does stimulate the appetite…
