walking is great! If you aim to be doing 10,000 steps a day, well worth investing in a great pedometer, but I walk so much more now than I ever did and I know that its helped me lose what I have - during my 9 months I've lost 122lb and although I gym and swim, I now walk at least an hour every day in addition.

I've turned 40 last year - one of my motivations for changing where I was. Have lost 88lbs in the past 5 months and although I've still got a way to go, am loving how I am doing, with gym 3-4 times a week, swimming 2-3 times a week and walking miles each day too :)
