  • Light day for me. Went ok. Looking forward to tomorrow. Here is a good article from the MFP blog about those who lost 100+ pounds. When you boil down the tips they all basically say the same thing - log what you eat. The comments, though, really flesh it out.…
  • [quote="ryenday;c-40735583" Tonight I cook dinner for Mother-in-law and brother-in-law. We will use an old favorite recipe. Time-consuming but easy. Greek lemon chicken and potatoes. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/242352/greek-lemon-chicken-and-potatoes/print/?recipeType=Recipe&servings=4&isMetric=false [/quote] :yum: !
  • Well, I am down .8 pounds this week (.36kg). Not real exciting but what is exciting is that I am 160.4 (72.76kg) so I think if I keep to the plan this week, I should hit 159 (72.12) and getting out of the 160's is VERY exciting to me! Loved your quote @Meghan509. I so agree what was said. I loved this "placing your…
  • Hi All! I too am fasting today. For some reason the Thursday fasts are tougher for me. Monday-no problem, Thursday-Can I just skip it? :D Wanted to offer you all a bit of encouragement from something I heard the other day. "Sometimes the greatest miracles God does are not in our circumstances but in our minds." - Priscilla…
  • @ryenday - so happy to see you are making progress on your health goals. I like what @Meghan509 said a few posts ago that 5:2 keeps the metabolism guessing. I agree with that. And keeping the metabolism up keeps the dreaded plateaus away and the weight loss going! Woohoo! @Meghan509 - Love Coke Zero but just drink…
  • Let's just say that I wish MIP premium gave us a better app rather than calorie goals by meals. Great job on getting through this fast. Hope you wake up in the morning with all kid arms accounted for.
  • There must be a limit? I think my Samsung emojis are the problem. The post cuts off right before the emoji. Here is the end: Hope you all have a great day. And for today's fasters, hang in there. Tomorrow is less than 24 hours away!
  • MIP can be such a goofy app. Just checked in and found it cut off most of my comments. Here is the rest: @RBXChas - Thank you for getting things rolling. Your voice is welcome here. I loved your first post because I see you trying things and seeing what works for you and what doesn't. So important in this process. If you…
  • Good morning all! Fast day for me. I actually starting to find it kind of nice to not have to deal with a lot of food on a Monday. And grateful to find my clothes starting to feel loser rather than tighter. Congratulations @Meghan509 on giving clothes away that have "grown"to big to wear.
  • Duplicate! So sorry.
  • Gained .4 lbs this week. Considering my mid-week NLCS Game and BBQ, I wasn't surprised. I am sure next week will be better news. So good to see everyone having a decent week. Would be ok if no one was having a decent week. We would commiserate together. However, it is so much fun to be able to give everyone digital…
  • Hi All! On my fast day today. Been a rough week (didn't get the job I applied for and my husband didn't get the job he applied for) so I am putting my head down, weathering the storm and fasting anyway. :persevere: I also do M/Th fast days. I find if my fast days are too close together I get a bit crazy and want to eat…
  • Glad to see everyone perking along. Had a normal day today but tried to go light on breakfast today since we were invited for a BBQ tonight to watch Dodgers and Cubs play. Hoping to eat sanely tonight with the calories leff. Congratulations @ryenday on the new job. Hope it all works out well. Have a great day all!
  • Hi All! Had a super busy week as I am in process of interviewing for a job. Managed to lose 1.6 this week. Half way to my end goal! Have been experiencing a lot of cravings, though. Trying to practice new behavior by just ignoring them.
  • Good to see everyone checking in, especially the newbies. @ryenday - hope you are recovering nicely! @Meghan509 - Your posts make me want to do a potluck with you all! @mamainthekitchen - Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you all had a warm and fulfilling time. @Foamroller - I like to dream of effortless maintenance! That would be…
  • @ryenday I wanted to revisit the issue of eating back exercise calories. For myself I do not eat back calories for a number of reasons (if you want interested see our discussion on eating back calories you can look at the old post exercising on fast days). However, like @Meghan509 I do have a cheat meal on Fridays. I…
  • Lost .8 lbs today. I was thankful because I wasn't able to get in all my exercise this week and I got a tad out of control with my food last Friday so I wasn't sure what to expect. Welcome @ryenday! Feel free to post any questions you have. We are happy to answer them. What I like about 5:2 is it helps keep the metabolism…
  • Welcome @PaulRaymond! We are glad to have you join us. We practice flexibility and balance here stressing just the basic tenants of 5:2 fasting - 5 days TDEE calorie level, 2 days fasting level spaced out within the week. The rest can be tailored to what does and doesn't work for you. I won't say much more because…
  • The one difference between food and all the other vices is that I don't think any of the others are required for life. No one will die from a lack of alcohol, cocaine, sex, etc in their lives but FOOD... better stop before the pity party start. :unamused:
  • You might also want to work on the legs too since there are some big muscles down there! Big muscles = big burn!
  • @RBXChas - Welcome! Glad you are joining us! @Foamroller - Thx for the hormone clarification. Like I said, you were always good with the research. Our bodies are certainly complex - fearfully and wonderfully made! That is why new dietary guidelines are always coming out. It is really hard to quantify how one thing effects…
  • @KateNkognito - That is so wild! I was washing dishes last night when all of a sudden I felt like I had stepped into a steam room. I am sure you know what I mean. The last couple of years is when I went through my meno symptoms (mainly hot flashes) and they had all but disappeared. But ever since I started back up on 5:2,…
  • One thing I forgot to add is that I have found exercise, especially weight lifting, really helps smooth out the weight loss process by keeping up the metabolism. The more muscle we have, the more we burn, the higher our metabolism. And of course, muscle looks better than fat!
  • @lisaze30 - Thank you so much for your honest post. I am glad you shared your heart with us. IMHO, I think it would be quite hard as well as unhealthy to lose 8 kilos in three weeks. When we go on a very severe calorie restriction, the body thinks FAMINE and slows the metabolism to conserve energy. Then when we go back to…
  • I just laugh when Dr. Mosely says to just eat normally on non-fast days. What?? If I could eat normally I wouldn't need 5:2. What I am doing is setting my calorie level at what it would be to maintain my initial goal weight and use that for my non-fast days. If you google something like "how many calories do I need…
  • @meghan509 - Hang in there. Sometimes the body just needs to take a breather before it makes another drop. I was grateful for a 2lb loss today especially after our big birthday celebration for the DS last weekend. Just walking it out, one step at a time. Will have a relatively quiet weekend. Some soccer and church.…
  • One other thing about eating calories back is that one can get attached to eating more so if one gets injured and cannot exercise it can be a bit painful to cut back, if you know what I mean.
  • I'll be interested to see what others say. My first thought is no since I believe one of the reasons for a fast is to let the body rest from having to process food. Adding more food is antithetical to that idea. The other thought I had is I believe it is hard to accurately count burned calories therefore it is hard to…
  • I don't see a problem with it. Just include it in the calorie count. Sometimes chewing gum makes me hungry so I haven't ever done it during the fast day. Give it a try and see if it works for you.
  • @Marmitegeoff - Praying that you are back to those 100 mile bike rides in quick order with renewed energy! @Meghan509 - Sometimes no loss is a win. Glad you are done with your project and things will begin to quite down. @Foamroller (aka Foamie) - So glad to hear of your success. I am back because 5:2 worked for me the…
