My experience has been that I set my calorie goal at 1400 a day net 18 months ago, It took me about 6 months to lose the weight, and I've had to stay at 1400 net to keep the weight off. As a female who also puts on muscle faster than the average woman, I would say circuit training is what has helped me balance burning calories with keeping toned in the past.
