Great article! I know when I get unusually high blood glucose readings, I always wash my hands and try again. Almost all of the time now, it is because some residue is on my fingers mucking up the test, and the second test shows normal readings. Some good pointers there.

More on the study here :http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-lustig-md/sugar-toxic_b_2759564.html "Bottom line -- only changes in sugar availability explained changes in diabetes prevalence worldwide; nothing else mattered. Total caloric availability was unrelated to diabetes prevalence; for every extra 150 calories per…

thanks for the tip! I am going to try this. I know magnesium has been proven helpful in preventing diabetes, but I was not aware of the benefits of taking it when you have diabetes. I will keep you posted.

I had recurring bladder infections very month since my diagnosis in August. I have had very good control over my sugar with my most recent A1c of 5.5. I did some reading on blood sugar 101; and followed her recommendation of a longer course of antibiotics (10 days) . I had to do,it twice, with two different antibiotics,…

thanks! I just added a measurement for my A1c from your tip!

I had some acupuncture recently, and my blood pressure went down at my last check up. But so did my A1c (5.5) and I have lost 55 lbs since last year, so I am not sure what to attribute it all to. But that plus the metformin seems to be doing the trick, so I guess I will stick with it!

It is a good point about fasting blood sugar. Mine remains over 125 most days and I would like to get it down a bit more,And although I have lost 55lbs since last year, I still have a ways to go. So I am leaning towards taking the metformin for a while longer and see if I can continue to bring my progress. I really…

thanks! I asked for input and you gave it. I have been on metformin since August, and I had an inbetween a1c of 6.6 3 months ago, and then 5.5 from last week. I am inclined to stay with what works, since I haven't had any bad side effects (other than some *ahem* gas problems, lol). I am also continuing to loose weight,…

I have been following the advice of bloodsugar101 since I was diagnosed, and it has been very helpful. I ignored the Doctor's advice, and now she is still in shock about how well I am doing. She says none of her other patients are doing so well. I am trying to educate her now... :)

I was diagnose with an A1c of 11.2 in August of this year. I reduced my carbs (20-30mg per meal) and my A1c was checked in October and went down to 6.2. I am aiming to go even lower. I know it is scary, but believe me making the changes are worth it. I feel so much better now. I didnt even realize how many diabetic…

thanks again....yeah I am just impatient. And I get really frustrated at seeing the spikes. recently due to the Hurricane here in NYC, I have been getting higher than usual numbers. Probably because of stress. Trying to stay calm, but it is difficult with all that is going on here. Thanks again for the support!

Hi all I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 3 weeks ago. I am on 500 mg of metformin 2x daily. My sugars were over 300, but by keeping my carbs in the 100-125 mg per day range, I have brought my fasting blood sugar down to 131. My goal is below 120. I have been loosing weight steadily for the past 7 months (50 lbs so far),…
