As someone who is trying to avoid/postpone knee replacement surgery (both knees), heed the walk first before running advice. Are you near a pool...walking in water is easier on your joints also (I know...putting on a bathing suit is a real downer) - the important thing is start gradually. Wishing you the best...

Thanks, Dan! As always good advice. Results from my A1C test in Feb was 5.9 (up from 5.8 from the last test)...My doctor didn't seem concerned and urged me (again) to lose weight which I now have done. Will see what the score is in late May when I next get tested. g

I saw a glucose monitor on sale at the drug store and my terrific pharmacist (who knows that I'm insulin resistant and on 2000 mg Metformin/day) helped me set it up, explained how it works, and even helped me with my first stick - before lunch with a 82 reading. Still need to read up on this, and hope it isn't "overkill"…

I just tasted a 6oz 0% Fage yogurt that I mixed with a 1/2 tblsspoon of diet hot cocoa mix, and it turned into a custardy type of dessert that tasted (well, sort of) like ice cream. Very satisfying!

Sigh...what a glorious hike you had uphill and back down again!

Please see if you can get referred to an endocrinologist for proper testing and a second opinion if you haven't already done so. Hope you can find your way back to health (and a good night's sleep )soon.

The best to you...you'll find a lot of support here. Hope that when you see your doctor, he/she will be encouraging and give good guidance.

Dan, I don't know you but you make me feel as if I do because I get so excited when I see you post numbers that show your major health improvement! You offer hope and inspiration to me. Curious if your doc is going to put you back on statins to get your numbers down? Best to you!!

My nutritionist suggested I shoot for about 20g of protein per meal (70-80g per day) + protein snack so I readjusted my % to 20% carb, 35% protein, 45 fat - don't know if this is right as I just changed it today...will see how it works and would welcome any comments. (Am pre-diabetic and on metformin.)

I signed up with a trainer at my gym because my knees are in terrible shape and I'm facing replacement surgery when I can't take the pain any longer. The benefit of having a trainer for me is that he has excellent credentials and is working with me to help strengthen the muscles around my knees as well as my overall body…

Here's the link for the low carb forum with all their wonderful information. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group

You'll find excellent resources on the LCHF group listing - plus the people who post on it are extremely helpful, dedicated and non-judgmental. I'm easing my way into this lifestyle change by reading books on the subject and relying on help from those on the LCHF group. My goal for trying to eat this way is because I'm…

when all else fails, go back to the LCD Launch pad - just saw (again) the clearly written info on carb grams/day - so for now, if I stay around 100 I should be OK but like wabmester advises, don't be "a slave to numbers...shoot for adequate nutrition." You are so right!!

Just realized I spent all this time figuring out my average carb grams, not % - Am going to meet with a dietician on Thursday so hope that she can explain it to me. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has struggled with these numbers in the beginning...am still reading up on this to learn more. Your comments are still…

Question about ketosis vs low carb - I'm adjusting to low-er carb (for now) (i.e. no bread, potatoes, rice, processed junk) - but what if you're absolutely craving something, such as brown rice or maybe some amazing fresh bread...would it not be better to go ahead and have a small piece and not feel deprived? Or does that…

I haven't had the nerve to take a "before" picture and was MIA for most of the pictures from a trip last year at this time (the one shown with my husband is the only one I could find)- can't wait to lose my cheeks - upper & lower. Maybe then a new photo! -So inspired by these before and after shots and comments!

We have some "upscale" Goodwill/Salvation Army and thrift shops nearby and I'm going to frequent them in a few weeks...my wardrobe is getting pretty bare and I don't want to "invest" in clothing that I'm just going to (hopefully) be using for a short period of time. My spring cleaning is going to be a major wardrobe…

Has anyone ordered Theobold's book "THE FLEXI DIET - COMPLETE GUIDELINES E-BOOK" Thoughts about it?

A friend just brought me Irene's biscotti from whole foods. Just 25 calories and 3 carbs each.nice treat!!

It takes time to read and process the amazing info available on the launch pad. I'm also learning from the folks who contribute questions and answers on the thread. Good luck and don't expect to comprehend it all at once. I just listened to the YouTube lecture #1by Jason fun and plan to learn from all of them (6 total) I…

Are you taking stating for cholesterol? They caused terrible cramping for me and it took some experimenting to get the right prescription.

Amazing thread, honest and heartfelt. This is why I read the posts and sometimes I post...your fears and doubts and anxieties are mine, too, in various degrees. I learn from each of you and that gives me strength and hope. We can achieve our various goals...

Not sure what kind of surgery it is, or how long the convalescence, but you may want to check with the surgeon or hospitalist to see if being under 1000 calories during such a stressful time for your body is appropriate. Wishing you a speedy recovery and good, healthy eating after!

I'm doing low carb but still learning what the right formula will work best for me. The reason I am doing this is because I'm insulin resistant and trying to reduce my intake of metformin. My mfp "friends" are not only supportive but seem to have sound advice.

Point of clarification - when I was able to visit my late mom, she'd say "what would you like for dinner?" then open her packed freezer to let me pick from her amazing selection. I used to give her such a hard time about it (high in sodium, etc.) but she hated to cook for just herself and it was easy-peasy when all she…

I love these posts! I'm 66, hypothyroid, insulin resistant, and limping on 2 bad knees...but since restarting MFP have lost almost 20 pounds (30 more to go) by watching (lowering) carbs and also trying to stay within a specified calorie range. This and with exercising 3-4 times a week I'm feeling so much better and…

" often cook up 5 chicken breasts with a bit of bbq sauce, and then take a frozen dinner and a chicken breast - one per each work day. the dinner is around 240 - 300 cals, and the chicken about another 100. It's filling, has more protein, and the dinners I like, I actually enjoy. Winner winner chicken frozen…

I've been wondering about how I'm doing nutritionally...despite being successful at shedding pounds on a modified low carb diet. Yesterday I made an appointment to meet with a nutritionist to review several weeks of my MFP diaries and to discuss my goals (lose 30 more pounds, reduce cholesterol, lower blood sugar ) and to…

Do the Scarlett O'Hara, GWTW thing "Fiddle-de-dee, tomorrow is another day..." Yesterday is over...today is better, tomorrow will be even better...you can do it.
