Yikes...I stand corrected and appropriately chastised for posting the Salon article (yes, they can be sensational) but I was curious to see what the response would be! Now I know what an attentive audience MFP has on the various threads. (You should read the responses from an article I posted on the dangers of diet sodas.)…

Ha...LOL! It's always something...

But articles like this make my brain explode. People are eating 1,000 calorie fast food lunches every day. They are drinking 500 calorie coffee drinks every morning. They are eating tubs of take-away pasta that are actually 4 or 5 servings worth. They are eating bags of cookies in front of the TV. They will leave their car…

Whatever worked/works for you...but I also never felt satisfied after eating these meals and I felt that they were also too high in sodium for me. Congrats on your weight loss!!

I previously felt that microwavable, pre-prepared foods were great because they have a set amount of calories and that helped me with portion control. But now, I don't think of them as especially healthy as they are more "chemical" than I like to have now. Not making a judgement on those that need this convenience where…

Another study about the impact of diet soda: FYI - http://www.salon.com/2015/03/18/diet_soda_associated_with_increase_in_belly_fat/?source=newsletter From Salon: Diet soda could be making people fatter, new study says "Calorie-free does not equal consequence-free" by Joanna Rothkopf "A new study found that regularly…

Congratulations on your achievement...sorry that there's miscommunication and doubt masked as concern...don't know enough about your weight loss plan to know if is very different from what your wife/family are eating - not sure what the underlying issue might be, but hopefully you can find a way to discuss this in a calm,…

I agree with Raventwo "I'm losing weight - errors or not." We have two scales at home - each with different weights, and my doctor's office and gym have different weights on their individual scales - I love stepping on a "light" scale, but as long as I'm losing on any scale, I'm happy. Same for calorie counts - there's no…

Fantastic...not only do you look younger, you are younger (and healthier) after losing 100 pounds.

Wonderful story. So glad he arrived home safely...and you were such a great welcome (and healthy) present.

Curious (envious?) as to how you were able to reduce your need for medication so quickly. Did you do low carb, calorie counting? Congrats to you...its great that you're such a positive example to your son. It has to be hard to "compete" with a video game, but you can do it, I'm sure!

I love how this thread is so reassuring and full of good advice. FYI, many of the hotel restaurants now have calorie counts/etc. listed in the menus. Even tho' you're likely not following calories, you will know what to avoid...don't be tempted by the many opportunities for noshing at receptions and at the bar...carry a…

We're "twins" with our height, starting and current weights (weighted 182.9 this morning, but a tenth of a pound is still exciting to me!) Wishing you continued success and inspiration. I still can't see the weight loss yet, but my husband can and I can see the loss for you in the pictures you posted.

"So next time you think are alone in this, you are not! We have all gone thru the same insecurities and emotions that you have and having friends on here helps so much." I'm quoting you and wishing you continued good health. Your story is so moving and inspiring...I try to read about other people's struggles and…

I can never remember what a "stone" is, other than it is a significant measure of weight, and you've lost 2 of them! Terrific! All the best to you in your journey.

I'm in both groups due to insulin resistance and my stated goal to reduce and get off metformin. I'm trying to lower my carbs and eliminate processed foods. Not ready to commit to lchf yet but am learning more about it through this group. Will discuss with my doc first ...who has long urged me to watch my carb intake.

click on http://foodfacts.mercola.com/jicama.html for info on jicama (I like it raw in salads, but never had looked up the nutrients/calories until looking at this thread) 1 cup jicama = 49 calories, 11g carbs, 6g fiber, 2g sugar, 1g protein

Even just a slight move to reducing your carb intake and sugar, monitoring what you eat (through journaling on MFP), and eliminating highly processed foods will help with overall health. Reading up on articles/books together so that you're on the same page of understanding what to eat and why will also help. good luck…

Just learned about your incredible journey of hard work, persistence and sheer will. What a story! I'd like to know how you formulated your plan and adapted it to fit your body's changing needs as you incorporated exercise and dietary changes (and mind sets) into your life.

If you combine the nut butter with flax seed, does that make it go rancid quicker?

I'm still playing with the macros and switched mine to the % that are working for you. Will see how that works for me. I'm on a "low" carb, low sugar, no processed food plan to lose weight and get off meds for insulin resistance . Am 66, 5'3" and shooting for about 1200 calories (plus exercising about 3x a week). Hoping to…

Your doc sounds like she was bragging a bit...but despite her comments, don't beat yourself up...it is harder to lose weight when you're menopausal. Has she checked your thyroid levels...blood sugar? Maybe there are some other factors going on? The beauty of MFP is the journaling so you can see where the calories, carbs,…

CrystalSan-don't make yourself crazy with trying to learn everything at once. It takes time to learn about this, as well as it takes time to have your body adjust to the healthful changes that you are now making. You'll find yourself feeling better and having more energy...and the weight will start to come off and…

Age is a state of mind, even though there are increased aches and pains are part of it. I'll be 66 next week - one knee needs to be replaced, the other knee hasn't healed from Aug 2014 miniscus surgery and I've developed Baker's cysts in both knees. Kvetch, kvetch, kvetch...I am exercising more now and my slow approach to…

Wonderful results. Way to go!! Any hints about the specifics of your lifestyle changes that you could share?

This is so inspiring to read and to learn from your on-going successful journey. I have 2 loved ones who have MS and it is an insidious, usually progressive disease. I am so happy for you that you have found a way that works for you - what a wonderful example for us all!

This is all so new to me, I'm learning a lot from you all and this is extremely interesting and inspiring. Right now I'm just lowering the total carbs - 120 max (which is likely a lot for those on LCHF, but I've cut out all bread, rice, pasta, potatoes and highly processed foods). I'm trying to regain a sense of portion…

I've been emphasizing low carbs in my diet, per my doctor's suggestion, however other than eliminating bread, rice, potatoes, processed grains, I'm not sure if the 150 g of carbs listed in my goals is too much. Should I reduce the amount of carbs even further? How do I make sure the percentages are indeed correct for me.…
