  • It works for some people and not for others. Some people can have a meal or a day where they say, screw it, I am going to just eat what I want for this meal, or all day, and they jump right back on the next day, without any negative effects. Other people may get completely derailed by a cheat day or meal and it turns into…
  • So I am thinking that I can relate to your strawberry shape and Kool-Aid man comment, then I clicked on your profile to see pictures, and saw YOU ARE A DUDE!  Way to go. You just took away the boost I got!:grumble: :grumble: Go back to your own sandbox.
  • So out of curiosity, I tried it with entering the 'perfect' measurements of 36 24 36, and it gave me to the left of the first body. So yeah, it is a bit off I think, but good for a boost this morning. Or else it just doesn't work if you really aren't from the UK.
  • I picked 6, but came out between 3 and 4. Wow. Dont think that is completely accurate, but ok. Must be my smaller hip size, because my stomach is def closer to number 6. I am also the perfect strawberry.. Haven't heard that fruit title before. Usually called the inverted Triangle. I call it Sponge Bob. So for those…
  • @irishscarlet- you are obviously the number one picture. If you chose anything higher, you definitely have a distorted body image. I dont think I have ever been your size. Maybe when I was 12, but I didn't have any curves. You look amazing.
  • You posted these stats in a different thread I don't think you quite fit the profile of the average person trying to lose weight on this site. Wondering how you survived at 118 and 6 ft tall? And how many hours does it take to run 110 miles a week? wow.
  • I bought one at Walmart, called a Veggetti. It was about $14 and works great. I am addicted to Zucchini noodles now.
  • I was not being judgmental, just pointing out that it is very unusual for a girl to have their period at 9. When this does happen, it is usually because of a high body fat % that triggers the hormones for puberty to start. There can be other factors that cause this as well, but if my girls were to show signs of…
  • 9 1/2 is too early to go thru puberty. High body fat % is a CAUSE of early puberty, not a result. If she has just started to gain weight rapidly over the past 6 months, I would look at what has changed in her world in that period of time. Divorce? Move? change in friends? Has she seemed more anxious or depressed the last 6…
  • Your response could be, "You know, you could get fired for asking me that question!"
  • Has anyone noticed that EVERYONE says they weigh more than people think?? Perhaps this just means that either 1. We have a distorted image of what is a normal weight. And/Or 2. People are just being nice. I have never heard anyone say, "people think I weigh more than I really do"
  • Thank you!! This makes a lot of sense. I was surprised at my last blood work that after losing 50 lbs, my cholesterol went up a few points. I am not that concerned, as it is only 230, and my triglycerides are down below 150, after an all time high of 685 4 yrs ago. I do eat lower carb due to IR and PCOS, so that would…
  • Yes, the bottom line is that if you eat less than you burn, you will lose weight. I don't think anyone is trying to refute that statement. Only that it isn't quite so cut and dried in actual life for some people. Finding out HOW MANY calories puts you in a deficit and keeps you there. Finding ways to adhere to your calorie…
  • Good for you! Sometimes we just need to brag on our kids, and don't want to annoy our friends and family with it, so the internet is the perfect place! People use the net to vent about all the things that piss them off that they can't say to the actual people they want to say it to, so why not use it for bragging on our…
  • If you have 100 pounds to lose, and have only been restricting calories for a week, then yes, you should have lost a few pounds. The obvious answer is that you are not logging your calories correctly and are eating more than you think you are. That was the hardest thing for me to finally accept- that I had to log…
  • I should have added that I have a spinal cord injury/disease (cauda equina syndrome) and am partially disabled. So my activity is limited. But even 20 yrs ago when I was bodybuilding and working a very active job as a baggage handler, I was still only maintaining around 2500, much less than the other lady lifters and girls…
  • During the chase, I was visiting my parents. My mom loved OJ and never did believe that he could ever do anything like that. No matter what evidence came out, she stuck to her guns that he was innocent. The day the verdict came in, I was carrying a load a laundry thru my living room, and the verdict came on. I dropped my…
  • 5'6", 50yo, 183. Fairly sedentary, but I do chase my 2 yo granddaughter around 4 days a week. I also have PCOS and Insulin resistance. I maintain around 1400 or so. I have been at maintenance for about the past year, not intentionally, just too much stuff going on right now to be able to concentrate fully on losing. If I…
  • Yep. And he wasn't 'quite young' either. My how the myths spread like wildfire. Google is your friend.
  • I am insulin resistant myself, and I have found that staying under 50g carbs is very helpful in losing weight. Some people can eat higher and lose just fine. I am sure that the level is different for everyone, so just try a level for awhile and see how you do. Lots of trial and error. Best wishes!
  • NAFLD has not been linked to fatty foods specifically, but has been linked to uncontrolled glucose levels. People who are Type 2 diabetics, or have pre-diabetes are at a higher risk of developing NAFLD. So it is high levels of carbs, NOT dietary fats, that increase this risk.
  • Yeah, and MFP is the one who automatically sets the protein level at only 15%, thus giving more room for vegan carbs. I have wondered about why they did that from the beginning. The 40/30/30 split has long been recommended as a base for most people. Now it makes sense.
  • So exactly how does drinking juice all day cause diarrhea? And is that a GOOD thing? Never could understand why someone would take all the fiber out of fruits and veggies, then concentrate all the simple sugars and drink nothing but that all day and call it healthy? What is the purpose of this? The only cleanse that I have…
  • Another point the OP mentioned was that his mother was not a small woman. This may be where the problem lies. Perhaps his mother was small when she married his dad, then gained weight afterwards? Perhaps the father was mad about her 'letting herself go'? Perhaps they divorced? Perhaps they stayed together and dad resented…
  • Yeah, so many people throwing out the 'just dump him, you deserve better" response. Relationships are much more complex than that. 1. Do you want to lose weight? If so, then do it. For yourself. For him. Whatever the reason, just do it. You won't regret losing the weight and creating a healthier lifestyle for yourself.…
  • Coke Zero is mostly water, so you are good.
  • Hopefully my sarcasm meter has not woken up yet this morning, and you both are just exaggerating for effect. Anyone going 47 times a day needs to see a doctor.
  • So have you checked out BB.com??
  • http://www.webmd.com/women/polycystic-ovary-syndrome-pcos-and-weight-gain "PCOS makes it more difficult for the body to use the hormone insulin, which normally helps convert sugars and starches from foods into energy. This condition -- called insulin resistance -- can cause insulin and sugar -- glucose -- to build up in…
  • Here are some groups to check out. Yes, it is harder to lose with PCOS, but not impossible. Lower carb helps alot, and you generally need fewer calories than someone withoutPCOS. Sucks, but it is life for many of us. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/3070-p-c-o-sis…
