It's been well discussed in this forum and generally agreed upon that exercise in a calorie restricted diet will help preserve lean body mass over calorie restriction alone, but barring some "newbie" gains, a calorie surplus is required to add lean body mass. Here is a paper that discusses it:…

You won't build muscle in a calorie deficit. You will lose both fat and muscle in a true deficit. If you are working neglected muscles, they may retain water to repair thereby masking weight loss but you aren't likely creating new muscle.
-
Which is probably because you aren't weighing your food so you don't really know what you are eating. Politeness doesn't ensure correctness.
-
You need to measure your food on a scale. 0.13 cup of croutons Homemade sauteed mushrooms 40 kcals but no oil listed for the day. Did you saute in water?
-
Don't forget you can prelog (or practice) filling in your log to see the values and delete them and start over. I always plan one day in advance then I can tweak what I eat to fit my protein and fat goals, as well as micronutrients. The MFP log is a great tool for that. Sometimes I'll change lunch and breakfast if I want…

Yes, volumes of hot air. Another silly, meaningless platitude. Are olives food? Is honey? They don't rot (quickly).

I know what a dry measuring cup is. I guess you didn't read all the posts. They're all for volume therefore there was absolutely no point in bringing up a dry measuring cup to measure pulled pork. I was trying to explain the absurdity but that doesn't work when people respond without bothering to read all the posts in the…

The level of ignorance in basic science is staggering, and very depressing.

I suggested earlier she take a chemistry course...just wow.

Back in for mom-science, cause as a mom, they can just tell. Next up, why vaccines are bad for your kids cause, Jenny said and she's a mom.
-
If you mean well, stop giving advice. It's clear from this very post that you are not educated in physiology, chemistry, or biology. You should take a course or two. Beliefs aren't facts.
-
What? You'd have to have a dry measuring cup for every conceivable ingredient then as they are all different densities. You can't measure a weight of pulled pork in a cup. Get a scale. If it's always made the same way, with the same sauce and the same density of meat then at best you could guesstimate after having weighed…

I see you picked up this ridiculous point from another poster on another thread and keep running with it. The use of the two words are not comparable in imprecision. Clean is used out of context of its actual meaning and is therefore vague. Moderation is not. Words have meanings. Just stop it.

Good. He deserves as much derision and shame as can be heaped upon the internet. Despicable person.

I got the same kind of results from lowered carbs (I went from ~200g/day to ~100g/day), but then I remembered I consciously increased fibre content as well which confounds even that n=1 sample.
-
My guess is that the OP is getting more than they think. Especially if they are using user entries from the MFP database. You will generally get more than enough from your food. Even fresh food.

Have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Na%2B/K%2B-ATPase The only daily minimum I've ever found is about 500mg. Ask your doctor.

Well like many natural herbs sold these days it's not very well studied over the long term, unlike a safe well tested additive like aspartame, so there could be unknown long term effects.

You know what else has been done for thousands of years? Ritual sacrifice. Are you suggesting we continue those practices? Please explain how it "works". No magical thinking allowed.

I see the old adage holds true that when someone starts out "I'm a skeptic", they usually aren't very skeptical and have already made up their minds and are looking for confirmation of their (poor) decision.
-
Completely wrong. Losing weight is the number one marker for increasing overall health in an obese/overweight person. The rest of your statement about scales is just silly. They mark a trend and that's what we need them to do.
-
Don't the keto people call that "carb flu" or something?
-
Actually, it really is the fourth macro. 7 kcals/gram
-
I calculate all the ingredients I use, weigh the loaf, and weigh the slice. Do the division, voila.

The good olde days

The thing is, most sodium consumption comes in solution, not from the shaker so it's hidden. The only way to really cut back is by making your own food. That said, up your potassium to get a better ratio.

So weight is one of the worst ways to measure weightloss? ok...

If it's tarnished silver you are cleansing there is a really neat trick/experiment that doesn't remove any silver from the item: http://scifun.chem.wisc.edu/homeexpts/tarnish.html

You didn't answer an important question: What are you cleansing?
