  • Is the 450 the calories burned OR more likely, the Calories Burned PER HOUR rate?
  • Read Dave Ramsey's book THE TOTAL MONEY MAKEOVER and I'd agree with the others go thru FPU, Financial Peace University. He's also on the hundreds of local radio stations and part of his show is podcast thru iTunes. Some that go thru FPU will also see significant issues in other life areas also addressed as people learn to…
  • Going to two sons' different basketball games in two different towns.
  • 1.5 lbs/week is a lot of weightloss. Just plan to go slow and accept there will be plateaus and fight on past the bad habits/days you "fall off the wagon". I still don't notice a lot of change in the way my body look BUT my clothes say otherwise (and so does the tape measure). It took losing about 15lbs before I noticed a…
  • - Yoplait Light and Special K Strawberry; sometimes I'll add a slice of toast w/PB OR - egg sandwich (micro'd egg, slice of American Ch, two slices of deli ham, slice of bread)
  • I'm not sure what context they're talking in but my results say otherwise. It burns calories, I can get my heart rate to max out, and it's easier on my knees and back than running (outdoors or indoors). I always use incline and weight resistance but now because of the weight I've lost the past 5 months, I've been able to…
  • Check out Sears (find out when things are out of season and they want to get rid of their floor models on the cheap). Also, check out 2nd hand places or "brand name" place for floor model clearances. Personally, I have LIFECYCLE commercial-grade, recumbent bike at home (as you see at the gym). We got it from a friend in…
  • As a bball official myself, I've never had quad issues like you mention, but I'd suggest pulling your leg up behind you by your ankle. Stand against a wall or chair if you need help balancing. Where I have issues is my ITBand and piriformis and sometimes the hams, so I stretch those in the AM and PM to start and end my…
  • When restaurant dining at my fav places (Fridays, Red Robin, Famous Daves, Mongo BBQ), I preplan by checking their website for nutrition and I'll also make sure I plan in a good workout somewhere and adjust my other meals around the eatout.
  • Great advice given here. As a currently obese man (I HATE to write that!!! but I've gone from a BMI of 35+ to a 33), I have some bad vertebrae & degenerating discs and and small tears in my meniscus and ACL and use a prescription brace for anything with hard stops and lateral movement. From my experience, the elliptical…

  • Absolutely! Got to burn off the prime rib, pies and sweets.
  • I do leg extensions too (and several other leg iso exercises) since I was also told to do them by medical staff because of a knee injury years ago.
  • IF he answers it, my bro-in-law yanks there chain EVERY time. He used to be a radio stunt guy. One time they were offering something and he said that if he ordered it, it'd have to get overnighted because he was heading to Canada for killing someone that day. When my niece was younger, he'd hand her the phone and let them…
  • I grill year round and I like to have a little chicken, beef, pork and pizza with my bbq sauce.
  • I should also add that my two at home are in high school and play sports almost year round and love to play hoops at the Y on weekends so calories are not what I'm concerned about as much as good nutrition and food awareness/education. I've been trying to encourage my oldest to get on MFP since he's been more weight…
  • Thanks for the reminder. I'll be officiating bball scrimmages coming up on Fri, Sat & Monday plus I'm working out every day this week so I won't feel as guilty about enjoying the food on Thanksgiving. I still want to make my goal of 6.5 more pounds by year's end so I've got to make sure I'm steady for the next six weeks.
  • I don't count calories but I do try to teach them good habits such as: - eat/chew slower - set your utensil down and taste the food - still hungry? have more fruit or vegetables - taking a junk snack (what little I buy)? take a handful or get a bowl and stop - Pop? have a water first.
  • I prefer the elliptical because it's easier on my knees and back. On top of that, I burn more calories.
  • I drop toast or an Eng. muffin in the toaster, micro an egg in a bowl, and drop it on the toast with a slice of cheese and sometimes ham. Toast & PB & yogurt
  • - People who don't put their weight away. - People who talk loud on their cellphones while they (and myself) are working out - People who sit and rest or chat on machines/stations, etc. for periods of time while I want and wait for the machine. (I'm a get-in-and-'er-dun lifter...if I can, my muscle rest comes as I try…
  • Pizza, rolls & honey butter, prime rib, regular Coke & Mt. Dew, Reeses PB Cups...heck anything combination of chocolate and peanut butter!!!
  • As a larger guy and IF I've worked out that day, my snacking total can double that spread out over the day, including an evening munch sometimes. HOWEVER, if I haven't worked out that day, I hit my exercise bike for some burn or like last night since the Y gym was closed for leagues, one of my sons & I hit the DVD player…
  • I look at it as partial accountability. Making a goal and following thru. I DON'T WANT TO EVER GO BACK to the man/weight I was. I figure I'll post my weight ticker on FB after I've hit 20-25 pounds...which should be by the end of the year. My goal for this year was 25 lbs. and I was 10 lbs from it in June then various…
  • I go to the local Y, do BeachBody videos, exer. bike at home or exercise & weights at home.
  • Try Emerald's Cocoa Roast Almonds (dark chocolate flavor). I buy a 38oz jar at Sams for $10. It's only got 1g of sugar, low sodium and I get the flavor of chocolate.
  • I like HoneyCrisp apples, bananas, peanuts & almonds. I especially like Emerald's Cocoa Roast Almonds because I get the protein AND feel like I'm having some sweet, like chocolate at the same time. 1 oz = 150 cal 13g fat (1g sat.) 25mg sodium 210 potassium 6g carbs (3g fiber, ONLY 1g suger) 6g protein 35% Vit E I get them…
  • Reeses or ANYTHING which combines PB & chocolate. Mmmmmmm!!!!! Been that way since I was a child. Any type of buffet because I'm frugal and I want to get my money's worth in meat!!! Buffalo chicken wings (w/pizza or fries). Family tradition on weekends from Nov thru April to make wings at home with a deep fryer (w/butter,…
  • What others previously said...also have you reviewed/reset your online MFP goals since you started. If not, you need to do that every 5-10 lbs because of a reduction in your body's calorie needs due to weightless. If adjustments are not made, then there will be a reduction in approximating one weekly weight loss…
  • WOW!!! Well done, way to go and happy birthday!
