I just happened to check out www.cavemandoctor.com, and one of the scrolling archived articles, at the top of the page, happened to be one about cooking oils. I had never read it. Pretty good info, it looks like: http://www.cavemandoctor.com/2012/05/27/checking-your-oil-the-definitive-guide-to-cooking-with-fat/

I eat the standard store bought bacon a lot. Hormel Black Label Maple is the best tasting bacon I know of, for instance. For almond butter, I love Barney Butter brand, which, aside from their new "Bare Butter" variety, is not particularly paleo (contains evaporated cane juice). So yeah.... You don't have to be absolutely…

While some might consider coconut oil as "better" than olive oil, I would say that olive oil is by no means bad for you. Go ahead and use olive oil, if it makes you happier, I say. I use non-virgin olive oil for cooking most of the time (well, when I don't have enough bacon grease around). It's cheaper and easier for me to…

Nice! High-five on recognizing government (yeah, any government) sucks. A lot. Worst thing that's ever happened to me (probably to anyone, actually). "[T]he State is nothing more nor less than a bandit gang writ large..." -Murray Rothbard (http://www.lewrockwell.com/rothbard/rothbard160.html) See? Now that's tactful. A…

If folks get combative with me about it, I tend to get combative back. You should see the look on their face when I call their breads and pastas "nutritional garbage". It's great because it sounds like I'm insulting their cooking but really I'm just making the very in-your-face point that there is nothing of value in…

I eat mostly just beef, pork and poultry. I don't go out of my way to avoid anything in particular. Mark Sisson seems to think that a fish oil supplement is a good idea if you don't have access to grassfed meat. I've taken the supplements for long periods and not taken the supplements for long periods and haven't really…

I have no real access to grassfed animal products either. I just buy the standard stuff. I feel fine. Maybe I'd feel better with grassfed, maybe I wouldn't. It's not any worse than eating SAD to begin with, though. That's for damn sure.

I'm a dude so I probably can't help you with all the products you ladies tend to use. Probably even more so than most guys, because I'm too anti-social and so indifferent about how I look. But I do have some insight on the more universal products... I use fluoride-free toothpaste. I don't use soap in the shower anymore. I…

I also may be added. I track daily. I don't really participate otherwise, save here on the forums, sometimes. My log is open to the public anyway, so if that's all you require, a friend request is not necessary.

With that much activity, I'd say wanting more than 1500 calories a day is natural.

Damn Good Jerky (http://damngoodjerky.com/) is my favorite brand but it's not really any better nutrition wise than any others. They have a Garlic flavored one that's not too bad in the sugar/carbs department and is pretty tasty.

Not this weekend but when I do have a splurge day or two, usually I just drink a bunch of water for the next few days and start eating clean again. Nothing fancy.

First thought, right off the bat, is that your protein goal is very high. I usually go by what Mark Sisson says, and so shoot for 0.7 - 1.0 grams protein-per-pound of lean body mass (LBM). I say figure out your LBM, adjust protein goals to match it and raise fat goals to make up the deficit. My guess is your ratio will be…

The USDA is a joke. Indeed, government is one giant, ineffectual, violent, wealth-destroying and - ultimately - unfunny, joke. I hate the state.

I have two pair of Merrells and they work great, too. I originally planned to go with VFFs but liked the idea of a normal looking shoe better. I'm not vain, you see (well ok, I am somewhat... aren't we all?). I'm just very introverted and anti-social and I know that wearing VFFs would cause people to comment on, and/or ask…

I use them pretty interchangeably but the simple difference is pretty much as mentioned before and summarized like this: Primal allows everything paleo allows, plus some dairy (and maybe some other stuff, I can't think of off the top of my head). I'm paleo most of the time but I do eat a little cheese here and there. My…

Nice tip on the freezer idea. I'll give it a shot. I love Larabars as well and the Lemon ones are definitely one of the best. They taste like a lemon Starburst to me. Now, if they'd just start making a bacon, almond butter, lemon Larabar we'd be in business. ;)

"My Home" tab > "Goals" > the green "Change Goals" button at the bottom of the page. ETA: Sorry, I just realized you may have been asking at what percentage you should set each macro. In regards to paleo? Mine are 60% fat, 30% protein and 10% carb. I can't give you an objective ratio to set them at because I don't know of…

When I see posts like this, II wonder if some people have a mental aversion to eating in the same way that some people have a mental addiction to eating. I'm the sort who will eat whatever is in front of him, regardless of hunger, if it tastes good and I don't make the conscious effort to not eat it. Are there folks who…

Welcome! A previous thread on this subject is here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/933261-what-s-your-workout

Folks say to go with the nitrate-free, uncured variety as a best case-paleo solution. I really like Hormel Black Label maple bacon, though, so I buy that often. But yeah, generally speaking, bacon is like all other types of meats when it comes to paleo: there are varieties that are better than others.

Just call it a fun day, if it was indeed fun. No need to be perfect all the time.

Haha! I only have three friends but they are all women... For the record though, they all added me. I'm not a very social kind of guy. Anyone can add me if they like. I'm just not very active except in logging and on this forum.

I'm far too lazy to make my own mayonnaise. I mitigate the damage as much as possible by using the Hellmans Olive Oil variety. It still uses soybean oil but obviously less than the regular as some is replace by the olive oil. It tastes just the same to me as the regular stuff.

Indeed, they are nuts. Thank you for the correction. I could have sworn I read a credible source somehwere, at some point, that said they were legumes. This is good news, actually, since I like cashews quite a bit and had cut tem out entirely (I don't eat nuts very often anyway, so not a huge loss) because of hearing they…

Just do what I do: Turn introverted, become overly reclusive and brood alone in a dark room, about how much the world sucks. Too negative? Yeah... I people keep telling me that. I'd probably consider their opinion if they didn't suck. ;) Seriously though, just say that you'll, "take their advice under consideration over a…

It was for me for awhile too, Mike. I've got three Spartan races this summer and want to get down to fighting-weight, so, I've really clamped down. Once I'm in shape, I'll probably be back to wine and chocolate on regular occasion again. I do miss it.

I've heard all the negative comments about it but I'll still buy it eventually just to try it out someday. I've already decided that when I reach my goal bodyfat%/weight, I'm going to plan a massive binge day just for fun. Not necessarily a binge of non-paleo foods, just all the really good stuff you shouldn't eat a lot…

Amazon is my best friend since I live in the sticks and have no cool shopping places like Trader Joes, Whole Foods or even Costco to go to. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=raw%20nuts&sprefix=raw+n%2Caps&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Araw%20nuts

Strychnine is a pretty lethal poison, usually used to kill things like gophers and such these days but its also deadly to folks. I first heard about it many years ago watching an episode of Unsolved Mysteries where some woman killed her husband with it. Another cool (and funny) reference to it is at the end of Office…
