Try and give yourself more time between races. Also, I agree with the others -- it sounds like hydration. Was it hot and humid?

Even if you're the slowest runner on the road... you lap everyone on the couch.

I've never done Cto5K, but you obviously can see the enthusiasm most have for it on this board. My tips are simple - stick with it. I included a story about running in my profile. If you're looking to really improve your fitness, I 100% support it. Feel free to friend me if you need some more encouragement.

I haven't been to Arby's in quite some time (read: years). Is it possible to find something on their website that is low(er) calorie and still appetizing to you? Just beware of mayonaise and cheese on your sandwich -- those will really push up the calories.

Good for you and best of luck. It gets easier, trust me.

Now, it's obviously your preference (and I'm not sure where college is for you...) but take advantage of the fall weather! Enjoy the scenery and walking around campus and the local neighborhoods (if it's safe). Treadmills are for the winter!

I run outside even with the snow. I live in a city so they're (usually) diligent about de-icing the sidewalks.

No, you didn't set yourself back. Remember, you're only 3 weeks in... :-) Also, there is no way that 8 lbs is just water weight. You'll feel the changes soon enough. Just remain patient. Up your calories, keep eating healthy and don't eat after 8 PM. I know the 9 PM fruit is good for you, but you don't want the sugar in…

You continually burn calories throughout the day, not just when you're on a treadmill. You need more than 900 calories. 1400 should be your target.

If she has high triglycerides and LDL cholesterol -- it sounds like a dietary issue. She's a teenage girl, so she's under some type of social pressure. You may want to ask if she's closet eating. Is she stressed out with classes, colleges, friends etc...? As evidenced by these boards, (over)eating is usually a response to…

I just hate when restaurants don't publish their nutritional information. Some have it available online and others are wililng to include on the menu. I know that is the case with restaurants in NYC... To me, that's a huge red flag about where I want to eat. I know some establishments have been very resistant to publishing…

Hmmm - you may want to do weekly or biweekly.

Try to take in 1 g of protein for every lb or 2 g of protein for every kg per day. That should definitely give you the means to get toned and shredded.

Weight comes off in the order it was put on. Just be patient -- it will come off. For women, fat is primarily stored in the tummy, butt, and legs (sorry, can't change evolution!).

Try switching it up - maybe some running or spinning? Are you drinking enough water? Did you just start? I find that I lose in bulk - so the scale needle will stay at one place for a while and then when I check again a few weeks later -- I'll see a change (versus checking daily).

For me it was a lot of carbs (and I love carbs) but definitely... Veal Parmesan or Macaroni and Cheese.

I like a diet fountain soda after I play golf or on occasion, I'll have a glass with dinner or lunch. Otherwise, I typically drink water.

You could be doing something wrong, but I doubt it. This is typically experienced if you're using free weights -- since you need to stabilize your other muscles just to perform the exercise. I remember that after I would do bi's and back, my abs would be on fire the next day since I would use a swiss ball instead of a…

Giving up booze at the start of your journey will definitely put your results on the accelerated path. At least, I've noticed that with myself. It's never *just* about the booze -- it's about the fact it gives you the munchies and you just want to feast on unhealthy food.

Sounds like someone got the racing bug :-)

That's some pretty intense stuff, man.

I agree with the brush your teeth comment. My issue was never really binging on food -- it was just eating late at night while watching TV or a movie -- and naturally -- you can't sleep off calories. I brush my teeth a few minutes after dinner and use a basic fluoride mouthwash, which you're not supposed to eat after it's…

It's the booze and the greasy, unhealthy food that sabotage my efforts so I stay away whenever possible. I might have a beer, but that's it. Not to mention, I like to do workouts early (6 AM) on Saturday and Sunday and they're either tough, long, hilly bike rides or my long runs for my upcoming marathon. Doing strenuous…

If it's occurring in your home, then don't buy junk food. A lot easier to avoid binges, when it's out of sight / out of mind. Also, a tip for you - don't ever go grocery shopping when you're starving!

I see the Olive Garden as a constant offender for unhealthy meals. Try using the Eat This! Not That! guides if you know you'll be attending a chain restaurant. As far as the Olive Garden goes... See the editor's comments: SURVIVAL STRATEGY It's not easy finding a reasonable-sized meal at Olive Garden, but it's possible.…

What is TOM? EDIT: Nevermind. Pieced it together with the other posts about tampons and emotions.

In all seriousness, you should probably ditch the roll. :-) Are you able to access the menu and copy and paste the entrees? At all costs, You want to avoid something breaded / fried (read: chicken / veal parm), and I'm guessing they're using pasta with refined flour. If you can get the menu, I can give you some pointers.…

Why don't you try increasing the speed of your walking or use 2 lb weights when doing it? Perhaps consider walking 3.8 or 4.0 mph for a full 60 minutes before you begin to run? There is no specific uniform answer that confroms to everyone, but pain should be the ultimate arbiter. Also, a sore lower back from running is…

Truth is that you are making a difference. I understand the frustration and heartache, but use this as motivation! What about your clothes -- do you feel a difference there? What about your appetite? You've already lost 45 lbs. You're well on your way to success. There is only one thing capable of stopping you... and that…

I never really think about this when running around Boston-- granted the areas are generally very safe when it comes to street crime and without looking up the stats, I would say the majority of assaults are against women. Generally speaking, there are areas I do avoid, but even when I've run by the projects in different…
