  • Way to go!
  • I normally find the show inspiring when the patient is a success story. The most recent episode I watched with Pauline made me so angry. Her complete denial and constant excuses were awful. Her son takes care of her and you can just see he is completely under her control with no will of his own. Seeing the patients succeed…
  • I find myself craving fruits and veggies. I have a juicer and am trying to incorporate a 8 oz glass of juiced veg into my diet for the nutrition. Another thing I'll do is to blend in some fruit into my morning protein shake to make a smoothie.
  • I was sleeved Jan 21st 2015. Feel free to add me
  • Love not spending money on new (to me) clothes!
  • How far into your journey are you? I think in the beginning it is important to follow your program. It teaches you important habits and helps you fully recover and lose the weight. That said I don't think you should stress over an occasional treat or being 100% compliant to the program all of the time. We need to find our…
  • When I first looked at WLS in my 20s I considered the lap band. I'm glad I didn't end up getting it. I've read so many stories about the lap band having problems and when I stayed my journey to get the sleeve in my 30s my surgeon said the lap band had a high failure rate. I think it is starting to get phased out in favor…
  • I had the sleeve Jan 21st. Welcome.
  • I think pre op was a little easier for me then post op. I just had to keep my carbs under 40g a day and was allowed to eat regular meals (focusing on protein). I am day 4 post op and already tired of shakes and being constantly diligent about drinking liquids. I feel constantly sloshy :) I am very much looking forward to…
  • looks delicious. Thanks for sharing!
  • yes. I am taking tiny sips but manage to swallow air anyways. I am constantly shuffling around the house to be able to burp to release the pressure. I am finding warm liquids are a bit easier for me to get down. So far I am liking the chicken soup flavor of protein powder by Unjury the best, I am also making sugar free…
  • I had my surgery on jan 21st and I am also surprised my how much gas hurts. I am able to burp but only with constant shuffling around the house. Having to take such tiny sips makes it difficult to get all my protein and liquids in.
  • Hi Dove. I had surgery 4 days ago too. Did your surgery come with a diet plan or any nutritional support? I had to stick with clear liquids for the first two days and then protein liquids for a week. I wouldn't think slim fast shakes wouldn't be great for a newly sleeved tummy. I drank water flavored with crystal light,…
  • Nioxin will help a little for thinning hair by taking DHT off your scalp. But it will not regrow lost hair like Rogain. Here is a decent article about hair loss after weight loss. http://www.obesityaction.org/educational-resources/resource-articles-2/weight-loss-surgery/weight-loss-surgery-nutrition-and-hair-loss
  • Do you take any medication such as metformin for your PCOS? If your hormones are out of whack it could contribute to the loss slowing down. I have pcos as well and I am preop to get the sleeve. I don't know if that is something you are considering converting to or not. There are some studies regarding the sleeve and…
  • I went through denial through Cigna. Took about 3 months of fighting it to get it approved.
  • My surgery is scheduled for the 21st of Wednesday. I plan on taking pics but don't forget to measure too. Having inches lost can be inspiring on the days where you feel like you don't see it in pictures.
  • http://www.5daypouchtest.com/ is what I found on google
  • I got the call for scheduling surgery. My date is two weeks from now on the 21st. It feels like I'd be waiting forever and now things are moving super fast. I'm happy and nervous but I am ready. :)
  • I have discovered the Yasso brand frozen yogurt bars. They are lower calorie and have a decent amount of protein. Not as rich as regular ice cream but still a satisfying treat for me pre-op. I also want to try freezing my protein shakes into a frozen treat.
  • For those with thinning hair you can also try using Nioxin shampoo which helps by removing DHT from the scalp. http://www.livestrong.com/article/18224-nioxin-shampoo-make-hair-grow/
  • The insurance rep from my surgery center is still fighting with Cigna on my appeal. We followed the appeal process but didn't hear anything, when she checked with Cigna the answer changes depending on the rep she speaks to. One person said the appeal was entered and being considered, another says there is no appeal in the…
  • Most people have a very hard time with any level of carbonation after surgery. I think there are a few people on here that will bleed out the carbonation from their favorite drinks as a treat. Maybe you can use the ICE drinks before surgery to slowly wean yourself off of pop? I switched to Diet snapple ice tea drinks and…
  • I love roasted root vegetables with a little bit of coconut oil and garlic salt. What about something like bean or lentil soup? Greek yogurt with whole fruit and slivered almonds for crunch? I am pre-op so forgive me if these aren't good idea's for your stage. I am trying to come up with a list for myself for each stage as…
  • Welcome home Papajames. Sorry about the icky taste of meds. Try letting ice chips melt in your mouth through the day or water that is slightly flavored. We're rooting for ya!
  • I was diagnosed with PCOS in my mid 20's and have found it very hard to lose weight with traditional methods. I've been scouring as many science articles as I can find as to the effects of VSG on women with PCOS. The following is from this website which gives me hope that this surgery will if not eliminate then at least…
  • I've been told on the soft food stage that you need to introduce foods again slowly. My plan is to be feeding myself homemade mashes kinda like feeding a baby. I am going to start with mashed vegetables and fruits with unflavored protein powders added for protein, and then add in moist ground meats. Maybe try eating…
  • My Nut told me drinking water with your meal will sometimes push the food through and make it so you don't feel full thus allowing you to eat more then you should, but it can also fill up the limited space you have making you too full to eat what you need to, it can also mix with the food already in your stomach and make…
  • I have a fear of losing my hair too. From what I've read its just something that might happen in the first few month but it will grow back. You can try taking Biotin supplements but I've heard contradicting info on it helping people. Nioxin Shampoo is also good for thinning hair. Best of luck! Try not to let it stress you…
  • The sleeve can be converted into a RNY further down the road but not the other way around. All the research I have seen is that the sleeve works just as well as the RNY for those who follow the program. Best of luck in whatever you decide!
