  • I've tried something recently that has worked for me..... When I know that I'll be eating out for a meal, I pack a healthy snack that I eat RIGHT before I head to the fast food joint. I found that when I'm not super hungry, I make smarter choices....AND it's cheaper, because, being partially full, I order less food!
  • When I'm packing lunches/dinners, I often go for a wheat tortilla wrapped with some turkey and cheese. If you're into mayo, you can still eat it even if it hasn't been kept super chilled. Homemade mayo with raw eggs would spoil, but typical grocery store mayo has enough preservatives to keep it safe. I also pack wheat…
  • At 5 feet tall, I'm three pounds from my original goal of 108. I recently moved my goal down to 105, so now 6 pounds away. It's coming off, but slowly. Just have to stick with it. Unfortunately for my sweet tooth, there's not much margin for error in my calorie counts these days. Good luck! I know you'll smash your goal in…
  • I'm just over 5feet tall and at my heaviest was 145. My current weight is 113. My goal weight is 108, but I'd be happy with just seeing a body fat reduction at this point. Not so worried about the scale number much these days.
  • I take a Zumba class at the gym. It's fun! Right now, I log it as "Dancing" on MFP, but definitely should rely on a HRM for the calorie burn calculation.

  • I do two-a-day workouts approximately three days a week. I only do weight bearing exercises during one of the workouts on those days. For the most part, my second workout is just to get some extra cardio in. I consider most cardio "extra credit" for fat burn as long as you're safe about avoiding injuries.
  • I've loved reading about all of y'alls progress! So inspiring! I'm just under 5'1" and had a lifetime high weight of 145. Currently (and in the profile picture of me in my wedding dress last year), I'm @ 115. Working on getting towards my goad weight of 108! Yay us!!!
  • Just found this page and it makes me smile. I started taking Zumba at my workplace gym and love it. Turns out, I'm not a bad dancer! Glad to hear that there are DVDs for home and for the Wii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will be a welcome addition to my home workouts to break up the monotony of the winter-time treadmill…
  • It's great that you're ready to start running and working up to some race distances. When I first started running I followed some beginner programs on www.halhigdon.com Hal Higdon has run more than 100 marathons, has been a coach, and has written lots of books on running. My advice: take it slow! you'll get there, no need…
  • Thanks guys. I think I will definitely consider a Tri! I'm considering doing P90x over the next few months until it warms up, but I'd definitely be open to trying the swim/bike/run thing. Thanks Again!
  • Great results!!!!!!!!! Way to go! I'm also only 5' tall. I've been stuck at 114.5 for the last couple weeks. I'm not sure the scale is going to budge much more, so I'm trying to pay attention to inches instead. You're story is a great motivator!
  • Great results! Keep up the good work!
  • Definitely in. Starting today. I need to get the calorie burn up, so I think I'll track using my HRM. =)
  • I'm at the end of week five of P90x right now or I'd definitely join you. I used the shred to get ready for my wedding last May and it totally did the trick. I'm sure you'll like it! The best way to enter it in MFP might be to track your heart rate and calculate your calorie burn based on your average heart rate. Good luck!
  • I'm crushed for you. That totally sucks. The good news is that races aren't hard to find. I hope you find another one soon. You're training didn't go to waste regardless.
  • Glad to help. You'll find that the cheap cotton material works, but if you're going to be running in the severe cold over and over, I'd save up and invest in a higher quality material that feels better on your face and doesn't build up as much moisture.
  • When I run in the cold, I cut the tip/top off of a cheap winter beanie/hat. Then, I can slide the hat down over my neck and mouth. It's a cheap way to create the same "ski mask" approach so that the air coming into your lungs gets heated a little passing through the beanie and hitting the heat the mast creates around your…
  • I RAN MY FIRST MARATHON @ BALTIMORE THIS YEAR TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats girl. Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Got up this morning for Ab Ripper X. I'm on week 4, day 1 of the Classic program. Did ALL 50 Mason twists with my feet off the floor! (Then promptly assumed cobra for a LONG time) Win! It's working people.....keep at it!
  • Pole dancing? Haven't tried that yet. Sounds like something that might fight off some work-out boredom.....going to look into it!
  • KENPOX Anyone feel the need to do some of the exercises with some 3lb dumbells in hand? I LOVE the workout, but I feel like I should be increasing the intensity some and am wondering if weights will do it?
  • Awesome results. Awesome work. Way to go!
  • I'm with ya. Definitely have to log. Not being accountable to myself about the things I eat doesn't work for me. I tend to estimate in my head anyway, and MFP makes sure those "estimates" are accurate and that I'm not rounding down on things to make myself feel better. I always have some guilt associated with bad food…
  • Joining in on the P90x fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm in week four, Day 25. Before I walk out of my apartment each morning, I try to do a pull up on the pull-up bar in doorway of my bedroom. Today, I did ONE! Not a weak, get half-way and struggle kind of pull up, a full-blown super-strong one. Okay, so I know it's not 20 like…
  • I FOR SURE wish I could bottle that. On the bad days, my only motivation to work out is to eat a little more!
  • Looks like you're right. I've been pretty clean when it comes to packaged foods, but upon closer inspection, I see that the sugar is coming from the milk I drink (which is essentially the only non-water drink I consume lately)! Thanks for the input everyone!
  • I'm in the same boat. Not a lot of weight to lose, it's getting harder. I've tried "substituting" a few dinners each week with a whey protein shake (made with the cheap drugstore brand whey, a little milk, ice, and peanut butter). They help me feel full, don't cost a ton of $. I'm avoiding a ton of sugar/carbs around…
  • I LOVE sweets too!!!!! You can wash and core an apple, microwave it for five minutes and add some cinnamon! So good. Add some sugar free caramel topping or some vanilla frozen yogurt for a special treat! For chocolate, I only allow 1 dark chocolate dove bar in the house at a time. Then, there's no temptation to eat the…
  • AWESOME!!!! That's the only word to describe it.
