This is what I do. Same thing I do when I go on a cruise for vacation: make an honest effort to be accurate, but don't worry too much about being exact. You're eating in an abnormal situation. You're not going to be eating like this on a regular basis.
-
One option that might help you is the book "A Man, A Can, A Microwave". I don't know what you exact situation is, but it only requires a microwave and some prep space.

I don't know if I'd say exercise is *more* important, but it definitely is *an* important part of keeping the weight in control for a few reasons. First comes the issue that it's part of the overall lifestyle change. Once you reach your maintenance goal, you can adjust your exercise level along with your food consumption…

It sounds like it's just some "I'm being used more than I'm accustomed to" muscle soreness. As long as the pain isn't coming from your surgery site, I'd think you're good to press on.
-
Especially because you're in bulk mode, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Yeah, you might add a little more fat than you normally would, but you can do some exercise or general activity while on vacation. Plus, it's only a week, so you probably won't notice the difference when cut time comes, anyway.

I can see how you might feel the cultural emphasis is on eating as little as possible. It seems there is a large, if subconscious, cultural emphasis on trying to minimize the number of calories we eat the same way we try to minimize energy consumption or waste. A number of years ago, I remember how my supervisor talked to…

I usually weigh food when it's easier to portion things out that way. Things like ice cream or even cheerios, for example, are a pain in the butt to portion out volumetrically, so it's easier for me to use a scale and try to match the mass given as a portion size. I don't expect extreme precision, just to get reasonably…

That's generally what I use whey for, myself. After three meals and snacks, I'm usually falling short on my protein goal, so whey is one way to get more protein without too much coming in from the other macros.

True. It doesn't help that we cannot quantify what a "large" pinot is. Although the diary entry indicates 750 ml. At about 148 ml per 5 oz, that's about 5 regular 5 oz pours. ETA: Apparently, I've been short-changing myself by pouring only 4 oz per glass. Got to fix that right quick. (Plus, it'll let me have a glass with…

I wouldn't say you're a horrible person. It may have turned out to be an overreaction, or a misdirected reaction, though. But you do say you had a history of him trying to push food on you. I'd like to think he could understand why you might have thought it was him. This particular note is pretty benign. You didn't call…

It's going to vary from person to person. In my case, I can survive on 4 hours. I can function sufficiently on 5. (This was about the nightly average for me in college.) I seem to function better with 7. I usually aim for about 6-7. Reality doesn't always play along with that. More than 8, and I actually either tend to…

I used to actually make a dinner over the weekend, then portion it out in 5 containers that I could microwave at work. Among other things, that simplified my morning routine because my lunch was already packed. For emergencies or weeks I didn't make a lunch over the weekend, a regular sandwich was my fall-back. Now, I just…

Like they've been saying, you can go a long way with portion control and eating what you currently do. But here's one benefit you have: Most of the "picky eater" horror stories are about Person A who's trying to feed Person B while trying to figure out new foods. The big headache tends to come from finding, buying, and…

That's what I was thinking about when I brought up goal issues as far as this being a "good" thing. Myself, I don't really get the idea of intoxication as an actual, specified objective. I get it when people say "we're going to go out" and they understand they *may* get drunk in the process, but there are people who go out…
-
I guess this would depend on the objective. If getting buzzed / mild intoxication is the goal, then calorically and financially, needing less alcohol to do so would be a good thing. But if you, for whatever reason, have goals based on volume (seeking to consume a certain / larger amount) or habit / practice (having three…

Could you make the jump in one move? Sure. But I think it will be easier for you to take it incremental steps. Just like eating fewer calories, eating larger amounts of calories works when changes are made with attention paid to sustainability. And that's easier to do if you don't have to greatly modify your current…

Same, here. I'll have a beer or glass of wine with dinner, or perhaps something harder, maybe even two in one evening, but that's usually it. I normally have to make a conscious effort to get drunk, so that usually only happens on vacation, and the next cruise isn't until 2015.

As someone who lives on his own and, therefore, usually is the only person to eat the ice cream (unless my dog's learned a trick I haven't taught here), I'll actually do something similar to this. I don't usually eat the whole thing in one sitting, but I just account for all the calories across the week. For example, if…

I think that, if you can manage to get the motivation to exercise before you go to work, that will go a long way to helping your situation. That way, you're exercising when you're more energized. After that, your work will continue to keep you up on your feet through your work day just as much as it always has. You may…

Generally, if density is an issue, my mind tends to go to the yeast. Some factors could be: 1) Age of the yeast (it can expire) 2) Temperature of the water. You want it warm, but not so hot it kills the little guys. 3) Proofing / Rising time. Many of the recipes that I've done have multiple rising phases. 4) Making sure it…

Very well done. As much as a pain as it can be, sometimes the cloth portion turns out to be the easier aspect of a costume to put together.

I don't identify as a flexitarian, myself, but I have had to explain myself on a couple of occasions. It especially happened back in college, where I'd frequently grab a veggie-burger at the cafeteria despite regular burgers being available. For me, the solution was to say "I grabbed a vegetarian dish because it still…

I gotta agree with this. Sorry, OP, I know you are looking for an answer one way or the other, but it's going to boil down to what the whole package comes out like. I've had my jaw drop on seeing women in formal dresses, in pantsuits, jeans and t-shirts, cargo shorts, even military-issued PT gear. The way in which a woman…

Same here. Any "filling up" I've experienced tends to only be very brief. While that has some potential applications, such as inspiring me to order something smaller on a restaurant menu or to grab less food on this particular trip to the pantry, it is, like I said, only a brief impact. But I have heard that a hydrated…

Yeah. I think it is becoming a bit of a "thing" but I think that's because people are hoping to drive up sales. I don't know how much they're really changing the products versus simply talking about it more. We may see new packaging advertising and emphasizing protein content, but I don't know how much the food, itself,…

As hs been mentioned, you can try to add more calorie-dense foods into your regular diet if you are regularly coming up short. But if you only come up short occasionally, or the shortfall is not consistent when it happens, you cold try to figure out if there are any "quick fix" foods for you that could help you top off…

Squats are remarkably good at getting the heart rate up without lifiting a foot off the floor. And OP: you could at least look around for a stationary bike, rowing machine, or something like that. Anyone who's bought a machien for at-home use knows how pricey those things can be, and nobody's saying you have to go and buy…

With the various multi-legged critters that can show up uninvited, I prefer to have some underwear on, myself. Beyond that, it's a cr@pshoot. I usually consider a pair of gym-shorts to sufficiently qualify as "sleepwear", but there have been days when I didn't "go to bed" but did get a full night's sleep ON the bed while…

It's generally been accurate enough for my purposes. But I will say I don't even bother to try and use it for anything other than measuring walking/running related expenditures. I will often log those exercise calories at a time when I know the fitbit isn't recording to keep my weight-lifting work and my foot work calories…
