  • I agree with a lot of what people have said already, especially the idea that you need to make healthier choices for yourself ... no one else can do it for you! ;-) It's hard, I know ... and I know that I sometimes feel that I'm being selfish because of the healthier choices that I'm making, but I also have to remember…
  • 1. Drink AT LEAST 8 glasses of water EVERY DAY - No problem, especially of late. It's become a habit, so I don't even think about doing it anymore. And having a number of refillable bottles around really seems to help. 2. Try a new exercise: In the last couple of months, I've added Zumba to my core group of exercise…
  • I'm finally beginning to see some progress, so that's a good thing. I've gone from 217 to 214 and have managed to do at least some exercise every day for the last week. Food-wise, well I haven't been as good as I'd like, but am getting there. Not having crap in the house certainly helps! This week shouldn't be too bad,…
  • I'm in the same boat as Sarah, having lost 0.4 pounds last week (part of the 4 I gained whilst on vacation). But, hey, I'll take any loss, so long as the number's going down!
  • I *love* Zumba!!! I was doing it in the spring, once a week in a class. Took the summer off because, with all the travelling we did, I just didn't have time for it. Am back at it now, two face-to-face classes a week, plus DVD and Zumba Wii in between. I like it enough that I'm actually doing the instructor training in…
  • Stress has, over the last couple of years, turned my life completely upside down. I wasn't exercising, was eating stuff that was horribly unhealthy, wasn't sleeping, and was pretty much a disaster. Add high blood pressure into the mix and it's not a good thing. I've since cut back to 1/2 time at work and am beginning to…
  • I'm up to try this again!
  • I have a BA in English (with minors in Computer Science and Women's & Gender Studies), am one class short of a B.SC. in Anatomy & Cell Biology (but decided not to finish because of an humongous change in curriculum just before I graduated that made pretty much everything I'd taken to that point useless *meh*), and have an…
  • This seems to happen to me, too. I have good intentions, but things just don't seem to work out as planned. I'm going to start saying to my family that interrupting mommy's exercise time is absolutely verboten, as that seems to be where I have the biggest difficulty. There's always more laundry, cleaning, "Mommy, where's…
  • There are some excellent recipes for Chinese food at Tigers and Strawberries (http://www.tigersandstrawberries.com/) ... I cook a number of these on a regular basis, especially the Singapore rice noodles, which both my preschooler and my toddler inhale with gusto!
  • I *so* hear you ... being a perfectionist certainly doesn't help, and I've (more often than I care to admit) just completely let things slide after one small slip up. I'm getting better, but it's slow going. I have to remember that one slip doesn't have to mean that the day is a complete write-off. It just means more time…
  • Count me in! I'll have July and most of August off, so am planning to do more fitness activities (and less research, article writing, lecture planning, and marking).
  • Feel free to add me ... I've got two wonderful little boys, one almost 3 and the other 4-1/2.
  • I, too, am a big fan of short bursts of focused cleaning. In our house, I end up with bins for garbage, stuff to put away, stuff to donate, and paper to be filed (or otherwise dealt with). Even an insurmountable task (like our uber-cluttered guest bedroom) seems easier (and not nearly so overwhelming) if I break it down…
  • Feel free to add me, too. I've lost 29 pounds so far, and have almost 50 left to lose to get to my first target weight. It's been slow going, and I'd plateaued for a bit this spring when life got rather crazy, but seem to be making some progress now. Good luck!!
  • I didn't have my HRM with me this morning when I took my two boys out for a ride in their trailer; otherwise, I'd have been able to tell you ;-) There's a fairly good (and rather detailed) discussion of this available here: http://www.palmbeachbiketours.com/calories-burned-while-pulling-a-bike-trailer/
  • I'm trying to stay on track, but had a hard time of it this past week. My 4-year-old son had to have surgery Tuesday morning to repair an inguinal hernia. We weren't expecting the surgery to take place until July, but were able to get in this week due to a cancellation. Good that it's done (especially before summer and…
  • Sweet! All that hard work certainly pays off!
  • Count me in! SW - 216 lbs Week 1 - xxx lbs Week 2 - xxx lbs Week 3 - xxx lbs Week 4 - xxx lbs Total lost - xx lbs
  • You've done an awesome job so far, so keep up the good work and I'm sure you'll get there!
  • I'm 5'10" and currently 211 (from a high of 238, 222 at start of MFP). My current goal weight is 165, but am working towards a smaller goal of getting below 200. I'm currently wearing a size 16/18, depending on the brand. I'd be really happy to get back into size 10, but that's a rather long way away at the moment.
  • This, too, is my goal ... and then some. I'm *almost* back into pre-pregnancy pants from before the youngest, who's almost 2-1/2. My boys are good motivation, but between taking care of them and working full-time, it's been difficult to get in the time to cook right / eat right and actually do some exercise!
  • Personally, I'd much rather make a healthy, home-cooked lunch for my boys (2-1/2 and 4), than feed them processed restaurant food. That being said, it's also a *lot* easier to handle them at home if they get rambunctious than it is if they're hungry and we're out somewhere.
  • I totally agree (especially 'cause I live just outside of Saskatoon). That bone-chilling cold weather just wreaks havoc on my motivation. I'm trying to get out of bed earlier so that I can get up and exercise before I have to take the boys to daycare and go to work. I'm finding that, if I'm (1) not super-organized the…
  • I wasn't drinking enough water at first, and ended up setting the alarm on my phone to vibrate every 30 minutes, even if only to remind me to take a sip or two. I also add some lemon slices to the bottle that I use at work, and those seem to help.
  • Count me in, too!
