  • I'm re-starting, after major surgery and a number of blips along the way. Looking for more friends ... and more support :-)
  • I'm new to this thread, mom to two boys (4-1/2 and 6), teach Communications and Technical Writing part time, work as a professional editor part time, and somehow still manage to find time to write, run the house, and take the dogs for walks! I've been out of the fitness loop for almost two months due to a torn Achilles and…
  • I'm not focusing on my weight so much as inches and clothing size. I have some wonderful summer clothes sitting in my closet that don't quite fit, so my goal is to get down another clothing size before August, and to make sure that I'm doing some physical activity every day.
  • I'm with butterfli7o ... I try not to do cardio on days that I'm lifting. It doesn't always work (much as I'd love it to), especially if I'm short on time and having to do weights on the same day I'm teaching a Zumba class ... then I make sure to do strength training first.
  • 5'10" tall Age: 30 HW: 243 (9 months pregnant with the youngest) CW: 207 GW: 180 (was originally 150ish, but I'm doing a *lot* of weight lifting and am really seeing a difference in lost inches, but the scale's not moving all that much)
  • I second the idea of using a dry shampoo ... otherwise, it seems that my hair's always wet, which really sucks once winter's here!
  • I'd do both ... and then step away for a few weeks. I lost 2.8 pounds between the beginning of September and the beginning of October (which was okay, but not quite what I was aiming for); however, in that same period of time I lost just over 9" in total. I'd like the scale to be moving more, but I'm much happier with the…
  • Me too ... on today's list are two kinds of muffins (oatmeal pumpkin and banana chocolate chip), packing bags of veggies for snacks, and getting things prepped for our two ultra-busy evenings (Monday and Thursday). Supper tomorrow is stir fry with noodles, so I'll cut up the veggies and cut & marinate the pork strips this…
  • LOL ... a few more of us now, but my guess is that we're too busy to read and post! Busy mom to two boys (4 and 5-1/2) here with another 60 - 70 pounds to lose. I love anything zombie-related, and even use zombies as a teaching theme in some of my technical writing classes. I log most days, am definitely no angel re. what…
  • I aim for twice a day, but that doesn't always happen. We've got a pair of English Springer Spaniels, who will only behave together on-leash with head collars; otherwise, they're just evil incarnate! We usually go for half an hour or so, and I let them off leash at about the 5-minute mark (once we're out of town) so they…
  • It's only the four of us for Thanksgiving supper this year (which we're doing tomorrow, not Monday), so I'm roasting a chicken (couldn't get a turkey under 25 pounds this year!). Roasted organic chicken with stuffing (a mix of homemade multigrain and white bread) and gravy Roasted organic purple and golden beets, organic…
  • Week 5 Goal. 4500 Mon: 424 (elliptical) + 125 (cycling with kids) Tues: 1169 (Zumba) Wed: 568 (running intervals) Thur: 275 (running intervals) + 70 (elliptical) Fri: 207 (jogging with the kids) + 71 (elliptical) Sat: calories burned (how they were burned) Sun: calories burned (how they were burned) Total: 2909 Left to go:…
  • We've had several different ones over the years. For jogging, I'd highly recommend a Chariot (http://www.chariotcarriers.com/en/CA) or similar type of jogging stroller. We've got tonnes of usage out of ours with both boys (currently 4 and 5-1/2) and are still using it (mostly for biking and cross-country skiing if I have…

  • Count me in, too! I'm home with a pair of sick kids today, but managed to work my strength training in between their coughing fits. I think my biggest problem/challenge is when my routine goes haywire (due to sickness, husband out of town, too much marking, whatever) ... I need to make time for fitness regardless of what's…
  • I love it and teach several classes a week. It's far more fun than running on the treadmill or using the elliptical, and I lost about 25 pounds doing Zumba twice a week (and nothing else). I've got the DVDs and the game for the Wii, but would far rather go to a class than do it at home. If I'm not mistaken, there's a new 4…
  • Week 4 Weekly Goal: 4500 Mon: 428 (elliptical) + 101 (vinyasa yoga) + 78 (walking with kids) Tues: 425 (elliptical) + 104 (vinyasa yoga) Wed: calories burned (how they were burned) Thur: calories burned (how they were burned) Fri: calories burned (how they were burned) Sat: calories burned (how they were burned) Sun:…

  • I`m in the midst of doing C25K on my treadmill ... it`s just not practical to take my 5-1/2 year old and 4 year old boys out all the time, especially because the older one doesn't want to ride in the jogging stroller (understandably!). I've been setting the incline up a bit, usually 1 is fine, and have noticed that I'm…
  • Bump for later!
  • Now that the first week of school craziness is over, I`ll be moving back towards healthier, cleaner eating as well. I did fairly well last week (although we won`t talk about yesterday, lol) and am looking forward to getting back into the habit of healthier eating. I haven`t read any of Tosca`s books, but I think I`ll be…
  • Oh, I remember those days, only my eldest wouldn't even fall asleep until after 10, even as an infant. My suggestion would be to see if you can move or eliminate that 10:30 feeding so that you're not getting your sleep interrupted just as you've gone to sleep. It might mean rejigging your entire feeding schedule slightly,…
  • Me either ... but I'm not a big fan of candy corn in the first place.
  • Usually it's either leftovers, frozen lunches (I make chili, stews, soups, etc. in large batches and freeze), salads with chicken or shrimp, pork lettuce wraps, or home made summer rolls.
  • Bump ... to read later when the kids aren't having a light sabre battle in my office.
  • Oh, I *so* hear you. Been there, done that. But we all have to start somewhere, and I know that my kids motivate me to keep going, even on the worst of days (and if only so I have the energy to chase the miscreants down to send them off to time out!). I'm stuck with an image in my head that's not too flattering, this…
  • I find that my tastes have changed considerably and, too, we don't seem to eat out as often, which also makes things a bit easier. I still have a latte every day, but I make it at home using just espresso and skim milk ... not nearly as bad as the caramel brule lattes I used to have at Starbucks all the time. So some…
  • Anything my family likes that freezes well gets made at least double so I can freeze a batch, or do smaller containers for lunches. I need to get better at labelling, though, as I took a container of what I thought was beef stew for lunch one day last week only to discover it was beef barley soup! Good thing I had an extra…
